- Empyrean: scattering of stars is the intriguing title of the 2019 exhibition of leading Australian landscape artist Idris Murphy. In this sneak preview film, Idris talks with characteristic intelligence and humour about the work to be featured in the show, and gives us some insight into his philosophical and creative approach. The film was shot in April 2019 in Idris's studio in Kurnell in Sydney, just days before the exhibition opening, and Idris is surrounded by his works, some newly painted. The film was shot by Sean O'Brien, who has been collaborating with Idris on films since they first worked together in 2001 for the renowned arts documentary Two Thirds Sky.
Exhibition dates: May 14 - June 8, 2019
King Street Gallery on William
Sydney, Darlinghurst
What a treat to discover by happenstance Idris Murphy’s work. Some of the images shown here were truly exceptional. His comments insightful. I then looked at other stunning images online. I would so love to see his work in UK. To experience them fully I guess face-to-face is best though this film was a great substitute. He should be a star in Australia. & not just amongst the cognoscenti . Invest in his work. He is surely collectible & support his work. Thank you to all involved.
I absolutely love Idris's paintings!
He was my painting lecturer at COFA in the early 1990's. He has aged well. I thought he'd look a lot older by now. I was the only student in the class who got one of his jokes which referenced Russell Morris' "The Real Thing".
What a wonderful video! Thanks for sharing
Most enjoyable insights.
It's bold. Ballsy. I dig it.
Beautiful work I just want to feel my hand run over it and breathe it in
素晴らしいペインティング
Love it. Beautiful artworks. 👌👍
EVERYTHING IS COHESIVE AND POINT ON EXCEPT FOR THAT PHUKING WATCH :-) (LOVE HIS WORK) -
Painting is a combination of curiosity and process. If so called cubist analytics are part of the process then a knowledge of cubist relationships must be known otherwise the result is either superficial without intrinsic meaning or partially effective.
Cezanne and Braque are good examples of this analytical process of curiosity.
Yes silence
Brilliant
great colors
Different for sure.
Leading Australian landscape artist???? You'd never think it to look at his offerings.
Exit the Vampire Castle
Seems like landscape painting is about space. His paintings don’t have space really. Kinda weird to me , I need space
