John W. Bowman, Jr., better known by his stage name DJ Kool is an American rapper who, in the late 1990s, produced several popular rap singles. Born in 1959
in Washington, D.C., his influence from his years of working the go-go and rap circuits became apparent in his music. During the early- to mid-1980s, Kool
worked as a warm-up DJ for Rare Essence, until he was picked up by CLR Records.
In 1996, he recorded his most successful track, "Let Me Clear My Throat," which was released on American Recordings. The track peaked at #8 in the UK Singles
Chart in March 1997. The song prominently featured a sample of "The 900 Number" by DJ Mark the 45 King, (that song featured a sample from Marva Whitney's
"Unwind Yourself", repeated over a breakbeat for six minutes). The song also began by sampling "Hollywood Swinging" by Kool and the Gang. The song is a
recognizable dance floor-filler, and the track remains popular to this day. DJ Kool was featured on Mýa's 2006 single "Ayo!" from her 2008 album Liberation.
He was also featured on two tracks on Will Smith's 2005 album Lost and Found.

I'd be godamned, I finally found this gem of a jam. Today was a good day.
This song literally gives me chills when I hear it...we used to party SO HARD to this! The days when men and women actually DANCED at parties to the point of leaving the club SOAKED in sweat.
I grew up in the 90s so I was excited to experience that, then I got old enough and it wasn't the same I just knew it wasn't lol
Crack cocaine was a hell of a drug!
Still a straight banger to this day!
I swear I miss being absolutely soaking in sweat 😢
Even after you brought a towel 😂

This is LITERALLY the song that turned me on to hip-hop in the late 90s. It got played on a Saturday night on Triple J and it blew my fucking mind.

I went to a comedy show back in 2021 and the Dj played this as filler before the opener’s set began and the funniest part was the beginning of the song you could tell who has never been to a Comedy Show and who has never heard that song because a whole bunch of people stood up and started clapping and screaming and cheering expecting the headliner to just come out firing.
So damn funny. 😂
Who’s watching in Dec 22.. love this song ❤
This is an intricately crafted song.
I love music as a child. I was more fascinated that they incorporated Charlie Parker into the mix. His saxophone playing. His groove had to be about a hundred years old. Genius ❤
