RAKIM was one of the best rappers ever. He took hip hop to a whole different level in the mid to late 80's. The PAID IN FULL album in 86 was fire. No one did it like him back then. Definitely in my top 5 of greatest rappers ever.
To me there are 3 songs that changed HipHop at the time of their release. One is "The Message" It's like a jungle sometimes it makes me wonder how I keep from going under. Then came "Sucker MC" by Run DMC. You didn't hear rap like that at that time. Then finally came "Dead President s" by Eric B and Rakim. Those 3 songs took rap to another level. In my opinion those are probably the most influencal rap hits of all time. Changed the game after that. If you disagree, let me know what you think is more influencal.

guys, if you love real hip hop, please watch on RUclips a short story of former music executive Krayzie Bone, who speak about a special meeting, that happened in year 1991 in LA, which changed the entire hip hop music industry, you can find this on YT: "Krayzie bones exposes the secret meeting that destroyed our generation"
1979-87 when Hip Hop was clean, fun and educational to OUR people.
Beef was settled in the songs. Not like today's special people 😅
💯❤
To all people. You seen a white person trying to be a trap rapper? It's not pretty.
No need for racism Hip Hop is for people of all colours Look at one of The Best Rap Artists of all time...Eminem
Our people? You mean human race?
This is timeless! There's nothing 80's about this, it could've been done yesterday, wow.
This is probably the greatest hip-hop song ever made. That beat is iconic. And Rakim's flow was something no one ever heard of at the time it was released. Truly a game changer.
Agree 💯
Samidot fucking obliterates lol

From The Blues to Rap the musical Genius of Black Americans
blues and rap are actually pretty similar, afro americans created it and basically you sing / rap your story, your life , your love pain.
Let's not forget jazz and the inspiration for rock and roll. #blackexcellence
and don't forget house and early techno.
Rakim is the God sent to make sense for his brothers before him, no names our individual need to be named 70&80&90& late 90's

I listen to Metal but I'll tell you that there is no other genre of music that could compare to the essence of this
The real ones understand good music - it knows no boundaries -it knows no genres !

Much respect ✊ to this musical genius from another metal head

Proof positive that all you need is 1) a sick beat and 2) the dope lyrics and BAM! You got a masterpiece.
Is STILL one of the greatest …
Arguably one the GREATEST mixes/songs in the history of Hip-Hop/Rap!!! Rakim the Great
