    How to install or modify custom DIY Halo LED Fog lamps with halo LED switches or rockers in a car bumper. These went in my 1997 Saturn station wagon. These are ebay fog lights with 2 different functions. They're easy to install with just a few basic tools.

    Halo LED Fog Lights with Halo LED switches
    Fuse Block amzn.to/2FGHir2
    Beauty shots saturn - locked down different exposure
    In this Episode of Velocity Labs we’re installing some sweet ass LED FOG Lights.
    IN a SATURN.
    Oh, and real quick in case you’re just looking for the wiring diagram, here it is. We’ll show this again later.
    We’re going to be installing them in those factory looking spots, and I already popped one out to take a look at it. It’s just held in by a plastic groove that snaps into the bumper. So we’ll be able to drill a hole in these and mount the fog lights directly in them.
    They came with some brackets but we won’t be using those because we’re going to mount them flush. Here’s all the hardware, the fog lights, 2 relays and two halo switches. We need two because the fog lights have 2 functions, the Halo Light and then the main bulb. Plus 2 switches looks dope.
    I’ll also be adding this little fuse box to make things easier, but it’s not necessary. Plus this piece is easy to replace from a junkyard in case I mess it up.
    It’s just a few screws and a couple clips, but some little plastic clips on it broke, so i’ll epoxy that later.
    I tried taking out some plastic with some tin snips but it was making it crack pretty badly, so i switched to the die grinder and rounded out some nice openings for all the electronics to fit through. This worked WAY better than trying to cut it and it almost ended up looking like a factory design. I mean, if you squint and don’t notice the rough edges, uneven cuts and general deformity of it, it’s basically stock. I did a test fit and had a just little extra to take off over here but that will give us plenty of room to get our wires through.
    With the switch fitment done now let’s fit the fog lights themselves.
    I measured out and punched the center, then grabbed a hole saw. The hole size I need is about 2 and a quarter inches, but all I could find was 2 and 1/8th, which I think will be too small, buuuut it;s all I got. . I clamped them down to a 2x4 with THE CLAMPS… and then drilled out the hole in the center. As expected, it was a little too small though, so… die grinder. Now you may be wondering, how am I going to secure the fog lights to the factory plastic retainers without any bolts or screws? If you guess JB WELD plastic bond epoxy, you’d be right.
    But first let’s see what they look like when they’re lit up. Hooooo LEEEE shit that looks awesome. OK, now I’m stoked, let’s get these mounted.
    First we’ll scuff up the back to promote proper adhesion and then mix up the epoxy. I also remembered to use a little to fix the vent clip I broke.
    Then I moved to the interior of the car to add my little fuse box and start wiring. I put it right on the drivers side kick panel, and I ran constant power to it so I can have the fog lights on when the car is turned off. However, if I ever want to change this in the future, I only need to change this one wire to the fuse box to accessory power and that will switch the whole operation to only be on when the ignition is on. So that’s a simple change if needed.
    Wiring. I’m terrible at this so you’ll get no instruction from me, but here’s the wiring diagram so you can do it yourself. I also have another video explaining this more in depth if you want to check it out, the link is in the description. It’s not terribly complex but it’s time consuming and I hates it. Anyway, I wired everything up from under the car, mounted the relays on the strut tower, then wired up the switches inside the car, and oh, don’t do what I did. I got all the wires ran and connected but forgot to feed them through the nut that goes on the back of the switch and holds it in place. So I had to unplug everything and re-do it.
    zip tie the wires .
    Now, these are $13 dollar lights from eBay. Will they last? But if they ever fail I'll let you know. Next video we're going to finish up the mods and maintenance on the Saturn Daily Driver and then we're installing a new clutch in the eclipse.

    Firstly loved watching your vid. Be honest though everybody. What do you expect from $13 Ebay lights???? Your cars are 12v but when running your car is pumping out nearer to 14v. Hence BOOM!!! bye bye lights. Especially if from China lol. Once again great vid. Was nice to see how they looked working.

    beautifully done, BUT! These are "speed lights" and not "fog lights". Speed lights generate a "narrow" light projection in a sense that it concentrates the light into the "horizon" (far away ahead on the road); while Fog lights spread lights horizontally, and not supposed to go above the bumper height, because if it goes above it in a sense of "crossing" the way of the driver's vision, it will burst the white of the fog (creating a "halo") thus, the driver won't see the road. Fog lights usually use vertical-striated lenses but it might also has vertically-striated concave mirror. (But the striation in the lenses is more effective.) And the light bulb must contain a deflector system (usually a tiny metal shield in front of the lamp.) to avoid the light going above the bumper height for two reasons: one, to not burst or flare back the for; two, it can be used permanently, without harming other drivers' view.
    Speed lights are better if installed above the bumper (the farthest from the ground as the local laws and regulations would permit) and Fog lights are better if installed below the bumper (the farthest from driver's eyes level in a way the projection doesn't cross one's view, therefore, the lowest as the laws of Physics would permit (impossible to stick the lights under the asphalt). If, for any reason, the vehicle goes on foggy places where the driver must also pay attention to what is coming above, like "ceiling in a tunnel" or "animals on the trees", then the fog lights must have the deflectors mounted upside down, and they must be installed the highest as possible as both local and Physics laws would permit: roof lights.)
    Other than that, I totally appreciate the quality of the work presented in this video. Good looking finished result on the dash board.

    I just purchased a new Scatpack widebody Challenger. The car does not come with fog lights, where fog lights typically go the widebody Scatpacks have closed off grills for the inter coolers and trans coolers that are not included in non-supercharged Challengers so I plan to do the exact same mod. I would like the halos a bit lower light level might add a resistor so it matches my existing headlight halos and curious about the Color of the fog lights in Kelvin, they look like 5000's my Stock HIDs are 4300 I believe but might be changing those bulbs to 5000's so they will match in color.
    Please let me know if those are still working. My stock HIDs really suck especially in the rain. I really was planning on spending a whole lot more on set of fogs but really like that setup, even the switches look awesome, If these are a no go I will look at Hella or Lumen but these look like a great deal.

    I had a set of these that I literally just took out of the box and out of intuition I tested them with a 9v battery for defects and to my shock they didn't even last 30 seconds and the SMD Capacitors started to smoke before the LED's burned out. WTF!? I can only imagine what would have happened if they were plugged into the cars wiring. Can someone chime in? How can something like that be allowed onto the market? Or did I somehow get a bootleg copycat version that had no quality control?

      +InBoostWe Trust If these Halos are like the other cheap units for sale on Ebay, they have very little light output and are for decoration only. Sorry to hear about the 2 week service life. Not worth the effort to install these lights.

    Looks nice! I'm trying to find some LED lights to install on my 2009 Hyundai Accent as fog lights as my model never came with them, but the panel the fogs mount to is one huge, completely different plastic panel in the non-fog cars, compared to the models WITH fogs....hard to know where to mount them! :(

    • @VelocityLabs
      @VelocityLabs  6 лет назад +1

      That's simple, mount TWO in each panel then! Or get a bigger size fog light!

    • @OdykKayne
      @OdykKayne 6 лет назад +2

      Part of the problem is that they won't mount flush as the panel is rippled.
      i.gaw.to/photos/1/0/10138_2009_Hyundai_Accent.jpg?1024x640
      They would go, in factory form in cutouts in the corners of this bumper and are installed in that huge black plastic piece. I'd have to replace that entire piece if I wanted to go for a factory-style mounting location. I could mount lights there, but I am just not sure how they would look on the rippled plastic...trying to find lights that wouldn't look tacky is the issue, haha!
