Common is the only rapper to have an Emmy, an Oscar, and Grammy.
Eminem has them all what you mean
@@tylerwaltz4169 where's Eminem's Emmy, dumbass ?!
And he’s on Silo looking for that Tony
@@tylerwaltz4169 difference is eminem is ass
@@tylerwaltz4169Common was the first rapper to accomplish that though.
This album doesn’t get talked about enough… y’all should do Mos Def Black on Both Sides next
Do Mos Def and Talib Kweli are… Blackstar first and follow it up with black on both sides first
Oh shit you're right we need that reaction
Double facts
@@luciastaylor4940 definitely need Black on Both Sides first. Black Star makes more sense after that
Did you already do Reflection Eternal?
This is such a perfect album for your dad! ...and everyone, come to think of it
I agree.. Grown man music. It's perfect
This album is for me personally a Top 10 Hip Hop album - it’s more or less perfect IMO.
This era of Kanye’s production along with Dilla was untouchable.
Your Dad is right about John Legend - that dude is 😴
I agree. "Finding Forever" as well
J Dilla produced most of Common's _Like Water for Chocolate._ Since you enjoyed that album, you should *100%* listen to Slum Village's _Fantastic, Vol. 2_ if you haven't. It's produced entirely by Dilla (except one track, by Pete Rock). Albeit not well-known, it's the most important album in J Dilla's discography besides _Donuts._ One of the greatest hip-hop albums of all-time in my book.
bro the shining is easily his best record.
@@mackavelly Welcome 2 Detroit.
"...I just want to be." That line stuck out the most for me after all this time.
To me this is Common’s best album! (Like Water for Chocolate a close 2nd) great pick. 👍🏾
They both are equal to me. His discography is one of the best in hip hop
right there with you my friend
Be, Finding Forever then Like Water For Chocolate for me. All nearly flawless.
He has 3 classics for sure. Resurrection. Be. Like Water for Chocolate. Finding Forever also close to being a classic but it feels more like Be Part 2 so it doesn't stand on it's own as much.
Great reaction, this album shaped my taste in hiphop, wish Ye & Common would do another album together now 🔥
Yeah they definitely need to run it back
Same here pimp. This shit is super nostalgic. College Dropout is the same feels for me.
Bridge The Gap Wish List:
Outkast - Aquemini
Slum Village - Fantastic, Vol. 2 (mostly Produced By J Dilla🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩🍩)
Goodie Mob - Soul Food
A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
D'Angelo - Brown Sugar
Erykah Badu - Baduizm
Low End Theory is a no-brainer.
pops would mess with fantastic vol.2
Ye and Common both did their thing on this one. Love this album
Your relationship with your dad is admirable.
Those two J. Dilla production really brought the album together.
Dope Album. Dope reaction.
Common's Finding Forever is cool too.
I like the chipmunk production, it’s a super nostalgic part of this album and era.
Want Harlem gangster chipmunks?…heatmakerz dipset productions
My pops just recently passed and this really made my day. This reminds me of how we would listen to music together and vibe just like this. Keep up the good work gentlemen
Luv bro 🙏🏾
Common is like the name of your channel. He bridged the gap between the mainstream and underground and his spot is solidified amongst the greatest MC's of all time.
This was my favorite album for a long time. I always wonder why Common doesn’t come up when people talk about top (whatever) list.
Agreed, this and like water for chocolate (which i think is his best one and hope yall reacts to down the line) puts him up there for sure, man's a poet!
because he took the actor route. which is sad because this is the greatest produced album of all time
CLASSIC ALBUM! WILL FOREVER BE IN MY ROTATION! “Be” gets me through shit and helps me navigate life
R.I.P Dilla "It's your world" gets me emotional.
This album is the joint and finding forever my two favorite joints from beginning to end.
This album needs to be talked about more it’s perfect.
‘The present is a gift and I just wanna be be be be……..”, my favorite lyric of all time and in my top was favorite albums.
This is an incredible BTG episode. I'm hoping for that Outkast Aquemini Reaction. I can bet a hot dollar your pop will spazz out on Da Art of Storytelling & Synthesizer
Dad grooving to the corner 🔥 he knows what’s up
Absolutely loved the video! My dad introduced me to this album when we were just going through a lot in life and it’s really been there for me so I have a major emotional connection to it. Seeing you and your dad listen to it together was really such a great experience. Also I suggested this album a while back so thanks for getting to it!
Loved the reaction
-808s & Heartbreak by Kanye
-Flower Boy by Tyler the Creator
-2014 Forests Hills Drive by J Cole
-Section.80 by Kendrick Lamar
-Daytona by Pusha T
-Blonde by Frank Ocean
-Man on the Moon by Kid Cudi
-“Awaken My Love” by Childish Gambino
-Madvillainy by MF Doom
Been focusing on life and thought about you guys today. Was hoping that y’all took my recommendation, and here we are. Appreciate ya fellas!!
The Food was the song they did on The Chappelle Show
Such an underrated classic album. Enjoyed this reaction, keep doing y’all thing.👍
I’m so grateful for this channel lol. Watching someone experience the music I grew up with for the first time with commentary is so cool & interesting. I cherish a lot of these albums, this one in particular. 🙏🏽
Grateful for you being here 🙏🏾
I love how much Pops hates in John Legend 😂 😂 😂. This is a great reaction to a classic album. Common DEFINITELY disappointed with Electric Circus (him and everyone he worked with weren't ready for what he was going for with that album and neither were we as listeners). Linking with Kanye was the best thing to happen to his rap career at that particular point.
I would recommend reacting to The Light like you suggested, and also Bitch In Yoo and Sixth Sense.
His tracks with Jay Dee never dissapointed tho. That's why I think Like Water For Chocolate is Common's best album
Dope sh*t! If your dad likes j dilla's production, yall should definitely listen to his piece de resistance, Donuts 🍩 at some point. Keep it ongoing fellas! 🤘
It would be interesting for them to try albums that are more instrumentally focused. Also, MF DOOM!
I was think more along the lines of "Like Water for Chocolate" next since J Dilla produce most of that album. 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
YESSIR YESSIRR OR SUM SLUM VILLAGE YKYK
Ok, this is officially my favorite channel right now. This is one of my favorite albums of all time and its heavily slept on. Subscribed!
This is one I’ve been waiting for!!! 🙌🏼 this album did so much for me 🙏🏼 well done fellas 🤙🏼
Awesome great to hear you guys doing albums not everyone else is reacting to. Reallyy appreciate that!! This album is a masterpiece from start to finish.
Man, this album selection is immaculate! Great video, shout out to you and pops!
i honestly never really listened to common before so this is my first time, thank you for this video! keep up the good work
This is easily Common's greatest work.
Have you heard Like Water For Chocolate?
6:17 - in actuality, it was a routine when for this album and Finding Forever linking to Graduation; Kanye had his beats for Common and when he turned them down he would rap on them instead
The Roots discography is something to dive into. Albums like How I Got Over, Game Theory. Need some Philly on the channel.
Undun is honestly my favorite by them
@@stijn8588 that and The Tipping Point, are like my least favorite. But I understand why people like or love 'undun'.
I think they have like 5 or 6 albums stright hard!!!!!
This album had no skips, it wore this out in my cd player. Great!
Personally, I have Common as a Top 5 rapper of all time. His flows, metaphors, bars are top tier. There was just so many amazing artist in the 90s that it was easy for common to slip thru the cracks
Love love love this album. Listened Listened it so much,my MOM even liked it. And she hate(d) hip hop. So I'm excited to see your dads reaction!
(Also, you aren't lying about the FAN reaction to Electric Circus, bur the album was really good, 80% critic rating too, for whatever the hell that means ha) Love yall!
Aaandddd...she first heard the album when she saw me watching Chappelle and THE FOOD!🔥🔥🔥
Amazing . This album always gets me out of a funk . I’m glad to see you guys do this one . You and your pops are hilarious 😆
Love this album. It's a banger from beginning to end.
Thanks for reminding me how dope this album is. Some of the samples on here remind me of some of the joints my pops used to play in the ride when I was a youngin'. I see a lot of parallels.
This is one of my favourites. I know y'all got a lot of requests for this especially on the Late Registration video (from me too) and it's real nice y'all are checking it out.
One of my favorite works of art of all time. The Production alone is timeless.
Early John Legend was a delight! Loving these reactions had to hit the subscribe button. Keep em coming!
Man just listened to this whole album whilst coming back from a school trip on the bus and just now saw that you guys reacted to it! Undeniable album, ye and common both snapped!
You know what I remember listening to this when it came out. Reminds me of beautiful memories in my 20's❤❤ love your channel
Thanks Andrea ♥️
Finding forever was great too! And yes would love to see a 🍩 reaction but I do feel like it needs some prep to understand what the album is, and why it’s special.
Waiting for the day your dad is sitting there wearing a John Legend t-shirt lol
Lmao
Classic piece of work
This timing is so random. I'm going to a Common concert next week in my city. My city rarely has rap concerts so this is so random to me lol
🔥🔥🔥
such an under-rated album....just a classic.
LESS GOO YOU FINALLY GOT TO IT🔥 W
Edit #1: i think the Everything I Am beat was meant for Finding Forever by Common which kanye also did most of the production and it also came out a few months before Graduation.
Edit #2: You probably figured this out when The Food came on but they actually performed The Food on the Dave Chappelle Show and not The Corner
So happy this album is getting reviewed
This is one of my favorite albums ever. Just beautiful music and powerful messages. This is Neo Soul/Spoken word/ hip hop
I think you should take Pops into that genre. Neo-Soul..
I’ve only been watching you guys for about 2 months, but in that time you’re dad has gotten so much comfortable on camera and talking on the show and it’s been so fun to see haha.
Love this album though, I got into Common after he spoke at a summer camp I was at in the late 2000s/early 2010s-ish. Seemed like a great, down to earth guy and I became a fan pretty quick
Haile Selassie I was Ethiopia's 225th and last emperor, he was crowned emperor in 1930 but exiled during World War II after leading the resistance to the Italian invasion. He was reinstated in 1941 and sought to modernize the country over the next few decades through social, economic and educational reforms. He ruled until 1974, when famine, unemployment and political opposition forced him from office.
I never really got into hip hop very much. I feel like I could relate to the lyrics very much. Common, though, has been a good introduction for me. His lyrics, I feel, have more meaning behind them than most artists. Anyway, I've enjoyed listening to the commentary you two provide.
John Mayer was on an episode of The Chappelle show playing the guitar in a skit. Gotta get dad/Rod Sr. to listen to "Get Lifted"😂😂😂
loved this
Kanye is so talented. Common is an underrated poet
Your Pops reactions are so wholesome! So keen to see y'all review Pink Friday!!
love this album so much man! Early 2000s is a goated era for hip hop
I remember commenting this on ya first videos and even the lives lets goooooo
You gotta show him The Minstrel Show by Little Brother
Very solid album and I knew your Pops would feel this. Hunger For More next, please!
That’s a good one!
Just as i was thinking what to watch, you guys drop a fire album reaction 🔥
Yeaaaaa
Common is so under appreciated. His catalog, what he did for Kanye west.
What he did to kanye west?
This is one of the best hip hop albums ever made.
I gotta comment again cause 24:54 had me crying! I love yall LMFAOOO
Sweet! I’ve been listening to this album a lot lately actually, because of you getting me back into old Kanye with your college album videos.
That’s so funny you say that, put this on my frequent listening playlist on Spotify, not realizing why. I hadn’t heard it in ages, but truly top three album of all time for me. I couldn’t believe again how incredible he is, these songs blew me away back then, I wore this out. And now everyday I listen to it again. Thanks for filling me in on why I got back into it. 🤭🙃 It was this channel and all the Ye albums.
@@itssewxtra1713 I’m honored to be a tool for your personal insight!
@@333brapbrap You know what else is funny I just noticed ? You said,”sweet!” about them playing this album. So something I say all the time haha. Where would I be without hip hop? Without this music? Curled up in a ball unable to sit up and feed myself Im pretty sure omg. I laugh in the face of adversity truly. I think a lot of people do that are really into it. Sorry for the spill I’ve had a rough week. .
@@333brapbrap how very generous of you! Like your screen name btw!
I can tell you got a similar taste in music as me, love this channel.
I forgot about a lot of these songs I use to love, let me go download this
Fan of Common, haven't dug into his discography much. Great project! Thanks for putting me on.
I think Em & Kendrick only have 1 collab out, it's on MMLP2 - Should do that!! 😈
The instrument on the intro is actually a Bass. Dope reaction.
One of my favourite albums of all time easily!!
Man love that Dad loved this.
Wow I didn’t expect you guy to react to this album, I love this album sooooo much probably top 5
Hands down this is my favorite Common album especially with him rapping over Kanye West production is the perfect combination since y’all did a reaction to Be it’s only right to do Finding Forever next. 👌🏼
33:45 Just let you know Dilla got a solo (unreleased) album where he raps on it. It's called the Diary. Bunch of good stuff. Featuring Snoop or Bilal. Produced by legends of the game (Pete Rock, Nottz amongst others). He got also a posthumous album called The Shining (featuring Busta Rhymes, Common, Black Thought, Pharoahe Monch..) and obviously you can also listen to his group Slum Village. Basically, their "Fantastic Vol.2" is a classic and was the start of the Dilla sound that is now praised by everyone.
For me, this album and Black Star, are in my top 10. Great review!
I love this album, it preceeded my generation but it's still amazing to this day.
Thanks for doing this one! Please tell me 'Finding Forever' is on the list too?!
Dope reaction as always! I hope yall consider doing Like water for chocolate too! Also i always thought your pops would appreciate The roots, seems to be in his alley, Either Things fall apart, how i got over or undun
dilla dilla dilla mix mix mix. It's your world. I could listen to that beat non stop until i die
Love the vids bro, I love the concept of your channel. Has your dad heard The Low End Theory or Midnight Marauders by A Tribe Called Quest? Either one I think would make for a great video!
One of my fav albums ever
I FW y'all heavy! PLEASE give us one of these reactions shortly and i'll be stoaked. Eminem - Recovery or Re-up, J cole - 2014 forest hills drive or 50 cent - Get rich or die trying. I feel like you and you pops would vibe heavily together on all four of those.
before the vid started I knew your dad was gonna like the congos on the soundtrack GO
Everytime i hear this album i think of my dad he used to play this riding around & i hated it lol now that im older this album is gold ! Gotta appreciate common
Ooooohhh man! This gonna be a good one!
One of my favorite albums of all time.
Great album choice, quick suggestion for you, like how you gave the context behind the album (Common's return to form), by the way Electric Circus is a weird album, but if you listen to it now, it sounds great. I think it got so much hate, because it was such a departure from the first 4 albums, recorded at Jimmy Hendrix studio, and you could see the influence
Once again, some album recommendations that I think both of you would really like.
DJ Quik - Rhythmalism
Warren G - In The Midnight Hour
The Coup - Pick a Bigger Weapon
I remember when this album first came out in 04. I saw the video for The corner and went home to burn it on a cd
Since your Dad liked illmatic and he likes interesting musical elements, it would be interesting to see what he thinks of Elmatic by Elzhi.
Finally!!! Glad you did this one, I was sure your dad would like it. But please don't cut the songs that hard at the end and PLEASE PLEASE take both a listen to Little Brother's "Minstrel Show". This is a GREAT album, soulful, funny, with a bunch of backstories (BET callin it "too intelligent" for black people, etc...)
I LAST JUST LISTENING TO THIS LAST NIGHT! My favorite 😭🫶
