Yo this album is actually insane, like you actually feel the gangsta presence of this album, it puts you in the hardcore streets of New York. Like the track Somebody Gotta Die, is one of the most gangsta, hardcore songs in the whole genre of gangsta rap
I Got a Story to Tell sums up Biggie’s greatness to me. When you hear the 2nd half of it (when he’s telling the story to the homies), you can imagine that exact conversation between you and the fellas at a barbershop or in the man cave, full of the same attitude and embellishments that we all do when describing our adventures. Then, listen to the first half and think how hard it would be to “sing” one of your own stories, with occasional rhymes, but always keeping your flow ‘in the pocket’. The man was simply one of the best ever at telling a story, while a movie of what he’s saying plays in the listener’s head.
If you think about it he told the story twice. Once in rap form, then the repeating of the tale to the homies & summing up the whole tale in less than 30seconds. GENIOUS !!!
Makaveli 7 days theory and J.Cole's 2014 forest hills drive gotta be next I love how you and your dad are listening to those albums. I started doing it with my father and he's loving albums I picked for him. Thanks for inspiration Rod
Pops reaction to Biggies line at 38:12 on what’s beef is what is priceless because that was probably all of our reaction during our first listen. Fing you tonight, Mo Money Mo Problems and I got a story to tell are three quintessential Big songs that clearly showcase Big’s myriad of MC skills
Btw. In Kick in the Door, in addition to the rappers you mentioned, like NAS, he was also talking about Jeru Da Damaja. When he says “son, I’m surprised you run with them” he was actually talking to DJ Premier. Preemo was Jeru’s producer and down with his crew The Gangstarr Foundation. Also, Preemo said he was ready to fight BIG and everybody in the studio when that song was recorded. Lol
This album showcased not only Biggie’s lyrical ability but also his storytelling, great musicality, introspective pov, intricate flows etc. to me this album made Biggie permanently in Top 3 ALL TIME FOREVER! He’s my Number 2 behind Eminem but anyones who in my Top 5 I always call them THE GOAT and Biggie’s THE GOAT🙇🏽♂️✍🏽🐐✨💯
@@AgentLemmon Yeah Ready to Die is leeevels above LAD. Not even close imo. I mean don't get me wrong, his 2nd album still bangs and has some of the best tracks, but overall it doesn't come close to Ready to Die as an album.
Good job on this one! BTW, The Biggie Interlude was from a hip hop classic by Spoony G called PSK (ParkSideKillers). He was known one of the first “gangsta” rappers, if not the first.
What an insane album! Super ambitious with flawless, cinematic production. All features came through. One of the greatest projects of work to emerge from the genre. Can’t wait for Disc 2. You might also have to do Puff Daddy & The Family’s No Way Out.
Puffy was working with Ronald Isley and the Isley Brothers at that time who was married to Angela Winbush. That’s how he was able to have her record vocals plus I love the dough samples her song with Rene called “I love you more”. Angela’s Famous Songs are Smile, Angel, I’ll be good to you, You don’t have to cry, imaginary players etc.
And the song his dad searched was I'll Be Good by Angela Winbush that Foxy Brown sampled for a smash hit. Angela and her brother Rene. Your father knows his music
The hook to Hypnotize comes from the Slick Rick track La Di Da Di. The fact that Big borrowed from early hip hop and now guys like Pusha T or Conway The Machine borrow from him, the original spirit of hip hop can still be felt today quite heavily if you know what to listen to.
You should let your dad listen to Me Against The World by 2Pac, the introspectiveand self reflecting on that album is 10/10 It would be something your Dad would love.
He didn’t like the first album because of the order in which you’re playing these albums. If he listens to “Good Kid Mad City” or “To Pimp a Butterfly” or The Marshall Mathers LP before Ready 2 Die, it will give the appearance of a step down in terms of overall production. It’s classic NY 90s loops and fire at that time. So its no surprise that he wasn’t impressed with the first. But this album, was his masterpiece. Let’s see how he feels about this one! Lol
@@dallasd214M same, I think the reason why the dad didn't like rtd was because he thought Biggie was an average rapper before listening to much of his work and those thoughts blinded him
@@dallasd214M I agree, I think it was better than LAD because you could hear the hunger in his voice, but I imagine the dad didn't even pay attention too much to the lyrics because he thought there was no reason to do so. I mean, look at his reaction after listening to suicidal thoughts. It's pretty clear he didn't look too deep into the lyrics. It's great to see he started paying a lot more attention now with LAD.
