Yes that's a good question..
We have chatted to the box maker's and asked them to try make the hole lower down to make sure that the bottom of the hole is touching the bottom board.
First prize is to make sure that you don't have any moisture in the box in the first place...
We need to give the manufacturer feedback to ensure they can make a better product for us beekeepers...

The base is rebated and fits internally which then lines up with the bottom of the hole, plus an entrance on either side allows the escape of water if the hive is not level.
