I first heard of Katatonia when my fiance and I went to see Opeth in concert and Katatonia opened for them. The moment I heard their music I knew I loved them. This song however.... BLOWS ME AWAY! I am absolutely in love with this song!
Pure brilliance. Both versions of this song are truly amazing!! Absolutely love and adore this new mix. The entire "Dethroned And Uncrowned" as well as "Dead End Kings" are true masterpieces!!! They have continued to outdue themselves with each new release. And thank you Katatonia for touring the US regularly!!! Classic, timeless and straight to the heart and soul!!!
I love this song. I'd jam out to "Dethroned and uncrowned" on my old 160 gigabyte iPod classic back in 2014. This song brings back memories of that year when I'd relax in my old blue recliner that use to be at my uncle's house. Sadly, that chair is long gone. It's been 4 years since my uncle took it to the dump. But I'm in the process in getting a new recliner to replace that old soft chair. When I get my new chair soon, you bet I'm going to jam out to this song, and the rest of this katatonia album while I'm sitting in my new chair, my prized posession. A chair that I will not pass down to any family members. My old chair would still existed if I took it from my uncle's house back in 2014. and it would've still been here today in 2024. For sure this is my to-go album when I relax in my new chair. might get my new recliner later this year around the fall. looking for a recliner that looks exactly like my old blue one. will probably get a dark blue one since my old cozy soft recliner was a bright blue color.

I found Heritage refreshing! I thought it was great that Opeth had the courage to change their sound so drastically and still make some enjoyable music. Unpredictability is the risk you take when listening to progressive bands, and I honestly find that it keeps things interesting.
this side album is just stunning, i thought it would be one of those failed side-albums you always hear about , but no doubts about katatonia, simply amazing

A true artist is selfish with his art, a true artist doesn't go to fans for approval...Katatonia and Opeth do what they want...This album alienated lots of Katatonia fans as well but that doesn't matter as long as the band likes it..
It's just them being creative with their last album. There will almost definitely be a lot of distorted guitar in the next album. You don't have to get used to this sound. This is literally the album Dead End Kings without distorted guitar. The same songs exactly. This is not a new direction, it's an experiment. It's a new way to hear old songs. That's all.
I agree with Benjamin, And I don't think Opeth alienated their fans didn't like the new direction and decided to not like them anymore you can't please everyone, Opeth will continue to do what they want musically and be good at it.....And I'm sure Katatonia didn't do this to please the fans that would be a sell out they're just discovering new ground with their music it's called experimentation

The funny thing is that metal musicians only seem to bring up the "progress" idea when they go soft. That's when it really becomes important to them, ha ha
I, of course, have not heard the whole album but I have a feeling this song is not the best example for the album. The guitar riff that repeats during the verse is imo, crucial, to the overall feeling of the composition...without it, the song sounds weak. I'm digging the chorus part though, the accentuated vocals are welcome. I'm still making up my mind on this one.
