Pt.(Dr.) Ramesh Mishra 'Sur-Mani' is son of late Pt. Daya Shankar Mishra (Tabla Maestro) and Smt. Chandrawati Mishra (a renowned Music Teacher) at Ayodhya (U.P). He belongs to "Awadh Gharana" an old tradition of Hindustani Music.
Mr. Mishra initially in childhood grown with music culture at home. His elder brothers Pt. Chandra Prakash Mishra (Hindustani Vocalist) & Pt. Omprakash Maharaj (Kathak Nrityacharya) were great maestros. He lived with the culture of "Saint Music" tradition at the temples of Ayodhya. Pt. Ramesh Mishra got highly encouraged with singing style, gamak of great Pt. Siyaram Tiwari (Dhrupad exponent of "Darbhanga Gharana").
Later he came under the efficient tutelage of international fame "Taan Samrat" late Ut. Naseer Ahmed Khan Sahib (Delhi Gharana) by which he got mastery in khayal & thumri style of singing & fortunate with "Bharat Ratan" late Pt. Bhimsen Joshi Ji (Kirana Gharana) by which he attained boldness in voice & gamak in taans. Now-a-days, he is ocassionally taking formal guidance time to time from great Ut. Iqbal Ahmed Khan (The real custodian of Delhi Gharana).
Dr. Ramesh Mishra secured "Ph.D." from Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh (M.P.) & 'Sahitayacharya' from Dr. Sampuranand Vishwvidyalaya, Varanasi (U.P). Further 'Sahitya Ratan' & 'Sangeet Parveen' (Vocal) from Uttar Pradesh.
Besides all these he has been awarded by "Sahitaya Kala Parisad", Delhi and "Surmani" award by "Sur Singar Academy", Bombay. He was also honoured by "President's Award" in 1988 marks his great achievement in music career.
Dr. Ramesh Mishra have given several performances in various concerts of India & abroad like France, England, Switzerland & Singapore etc.
His superb display of the most difficult technicalities of the Hindustani Classical Khayal, Dhrupad-Dhamar, Thumri-Dadra, Tarana as well as Light Classical like Chaita, Chaiti, Hori, Kajri, Bhajan, Ghazal & Awadhi folk music shows that he has attained mastery over almost all streams of Indian Music. Presently, he is working as 'Principal'(Gazetted Officer) in Delhi Administration Schools.
Dr. Mishra has many students learning music through "Guru-Shishya" parampara. He founded and established "Chandrawati Sangeet Mahavidyalaya" in 1995, an institute/ academy of classical music purely aimed & dedicated for the propagation of "Indian Music" whose guidance is very helpful to learners of Indian music through classical vocal, light vocal, percussion & non percussion instruments & also in dance forms etc.
