Great video. I totally understand what is being said and demonstrated. I will be at Trackman tomorrow morning practicing. Thank you for this

To’ me it looks more like pushing back the left hip by using the force generated on the left foot/leg after the shift forward at the top of back swing . If you look Rory at the top of his back swing he “pauses” a tiny bit and after shifting he squats. The start of the down swing is led by the left leg stretching backwards

I think you're missing an important subtle move with Rory's swing. Yes..he drives left early; but there is a subtle counter move with the lower body back towards the right that adds a powerful sling to the club through impact,...like flicking a towel to snap it.

Agree but not something that can be taught IMO.

@@Inmotion70 I think if in the backswing you shift your back hip closer to the target, then in the downswing the pushing up of the lead leg will spontaneously create this countermove of the lower body influencing this slinging action.

Thank you very much, Steve, for one more great tip, I have been following your advice and that lead to improvement. Yet, with this tip I have had problems. When I am aggressively using my hip the way you describe, and I am not extending, I end up with a push. It's a long push, because of this move, but it is a push. The only way I can avoid it is by what you call here, "turning in a barrel" and indeed it saps the power. So how do I make this aggressive move and not push the ball?

Do the combination of the 2.

Great video. But Chuck Quinton says now, that there are t w o totally different swing possibilities: the left and the right side dominant. You discribe the left side dominant, posting up on the left leg. But you can create the same effect of lateral move and rotation by pushing off the right foot clockwise and active releasing the right hand (throwing motion), as Quinton recommends.
    What do you think?

I believe in the two sides in a team effort. I do not believe in emphasizing a push off, but rather a 'step down'.

Ok. This is probably the reason you don’t like the Mike Dunaway movement with the right knee to start the downswing from 4 to 11. Perhaps you have different body types and feelings.

Length means nothing unless you can square the club at impact for a solid hit with direction. Somewhere in the backswing long hitters will bow their leading (LEFT FOR RIGHT HANDERS) wrist. Rhom does it at the top of his backswing. Hogan did it during the downswing. Where you do it depends on your body and flexibility.

good tip but when I try to drive my legs and hit forward, my left knee gets past my left ankle sometimes it seems like I’m too far ahead and then I get flippy

How do you maintain a feeling of connectivity if your hips get to Ahead of your upper body?

Good points BUT I question that Rory was ever a short hitter. Even when he broke through on the European tour as a teenager he hit it miles. Yes he has bulked up but even in the early days of his PGA tour career he could over power courses with his driving.

    • @Inmotion70

He was only 108 mph but was very distance efficient because he hit way up on the ball...like 6 to 8 degrees.

@@Inmotion70 First year I can find with full stats on pga is 2010 and he was ranked 12th in driving distance with 300y average. The year before he had 305y but I guess didn’t play enough.
Trackman stats might be off his 5 iron cause you don’t have over 300y average drives with 108 mph club.
