@@trinityadiaz People are forgetting that Ohtani's Contract is basically paying for itself. In fact...the Dodgers stand to make a huge profit from it. The same cant be said for Soto's contract on its own
Agreed, If Soto signed last year it would've been 500 million at the most. People forget that Ohtani's contract is only 450 million in present day value. Soto's contract is 805 million when you count the option. It's absurd.
Ohtani on and off the field value will never going to be matched by any player. Dude can pitch and hit and also bring enormous sponsorship revenues for the team. Dodgers already made 120M plus in his first season. No other MLB players can even generate that kind of revenues during the entire career including Soto. That's why many are shaking heads with this contractl that also comes with 75m signing bonus plus opt out clause money...
And to follow up and clarify your point (for those you might not have understood), the Dodgers made $120m EXTRA off Ohtani as opposed to the roughly $600m+ they would have made for JUST being the Dodgers without Ohtani. I read somewhere that their gross profits in the 2023 season was $660m. Now lets say the Dodgers just put all or some of the $120m the made off him in an investment account to pay for his deferred money 10 years from now, with the interest made, one could argue that Ohtani is actually paying himself and rendering his service to the Dodgers for free 🤣🤣
Are they kidding? The Yankees built a team that couldn't field. Plus, their pitching was suspect. Severino called out that for much of the season they had only two hitters in their line up. The Dodgers not only beat them, they mocked them. Yet everyone is pretending that the Yankees would have been a better landing spot than the Mets. Btw: Everyone is mocking the idea that the warm welcome the Mets offered had any influence. But they fail to see the flip side, namely what a turn off Yankee haughtiness can be. Of course the Mets are the better choice. Overpaying for Fried is a way Steinbrenner is admitting that, too.
I don’t understand the comparison to Ohtani,he doesn’t get a 15 year deal because of his age,Soto would have to sign a 5 year deal or a 15 year deal he wouldn’t sign a 10 and become a free agent at 36 so to get him a 15 year is the only logical way, every team was going that length, but has an opt out at 31 which makes sense this isn’t hard people,if Ohtani was 26 he gets a billion deferred to 2080 stop comparing geez
Ppl are comparing this bcos this is a bad contract for the Mets. If you were to compare his annual to judge, trout or tatis jr who most will consider those guys the better player gotten less.
@ so if the Yankees signed him at 760 it would be a good contract or any of the other teams offering over 700, personally I think everyone is full of shit especially Yankee fans who loved him and now talking shit it’s so satisfying
@DIEHARD1010 I think anyone who paid him that money is getting a markup. If the Yankees get bregman or tucker and so far added max, they're are a better team than if they were to have soto returning. Yankee fans will be happy with that outcome (not a yankee fan btw)
@DIEHARD1010 paying players after their 35 for top dollar are a bad idea. They pretty much paying what they have done not what they're going to do. Front half okay, back end you literally paying for a statue! Ohtani deal makes sense with all his deferral and the main reason is what he generates off the field. With Japanese TV right, that's literally 30-50mil per-season on top of all the ads from Japanese co. Soto will not generate anything, didn't for the Nats, padres, Yankees now nor the mets
Smoltz has always hated the Mets and this show is becoming even more biased against the Mets and now Soto. Yeah Ohtani is more valuable than his contract but doesn’t mean Soto’s contract is not worth it.
You're really going to get another good five maybe 7 after that it's all downhill from there what's he going to do play until he's 42 years old come on now father time comes into play
By the 8th season Soto's contract will be acknowledged as ridiculously bad. Basically, Baby boomer $$ will be reduced, as will the younger baseball audience, as will Soto's production.
Soto's power numbers will go down at Citi Field??? LOL His numbers at Citi Field are .333 batting average, with 26 RBI, 19-extra-base hits and 12 home runs in just 35 games.
Smoltz is always gracious with his time. Appreciate ya!
Juan would NOT have gotten $700m LAST year. Ohtani set the mark
Ohtani is in a league of his own. Soto is not even near Ohtani. This is probably the biggest over pay in baseball history

I'm fascinated to see how Fried's career works out with NYY now
AJ the type of dude to crash his golf cart after a 12 pack of Coors before the 9th hole.

Soto wouldn't get the 765m if he was a FA first.. ohtani prob gets about the same contract he currently has
Crazy how well spoken smoltz is, audio sounds good, we need Kratz to fix that audio in his room

@ so let me get this straight Fried replaces Gil and Tucker replaces Soto, so an aging Bregman makes them better
Smoltz is the best
Wtf is all this golf talk idgaf
Any sponsored wounded warrior slots for the tournament 😉?
Love some Smoltzy
Get Kevin Millar or Chris Rose on the show I'm sure aj and the real 15 have great chemistry
Talk baseball, this is not a golf pod cast.

Dude you sound stupid. Please dont tell me this SOTO signing is making you NY MUTTS fans go full blown Rtrd
By your calculations, that means he could hit about 54 HRs next year and win the Triple Crown.
He’s saying the home run will go down are you not thinking and just comment shit 😂😂😂
Good pitching beats good hitting - Go Dodgers
Salty 😂😂😂
It’s the truth
Soto is a horrible fielder......
Good bye
