Very cool! I've gotta try this. I have the exact same furnace; nifty. Only done about 5 melts so far. This looks way better then what I'm doing; mixing finely blended kitty litter with sand. It's all under 70 mesh and its kitty fresh! Lol. Thanks for sharing your video.

It is a great little furnace. I use it now primarily for copper. I started out metal casting using kitty litter with sand. It kind of worked, but I ended up buying greensand. You definitely should give this method a try. Check out this playlist for some cool ideas and information.

compaction is your friend. maybe some heavier weights on top would help. looks like the copper bar in front waas mostly on the edge of the can. Merry Christmas bud

Yeah I think more compaction would have been better. Those copper bars are heavy on top though

Is there any reason you couldn't cut a small sand casting pattern like this directly on your cnc, instead of lost foam casting the pattern first? A tapered bit could give you your draft angles. Then again I'm the guy who cast an aluminum matchplate pattern for a one off casting, so maybe I shouldn't be asking 😂

hahah yeah you did... 😂 TBH I thought it would work. I've done it before. Yes I suppose I would have carved out a wooden pattern and used that for a greensand mold with draft. I do have tapered bits. I haven't experimented with my cnc on wood in a long time. I just remember when I used to do it I wouldn't have a smooth draft. It's probably my cut speed on my cnc, I am still a beginner. I also Like experimenting and metal casting. So it didn't bother me too bad that it didn't work. I did get it though, you'll see in a couple weeks. 👍
