Weddings can be fast paced and in some situations i would have to split myself into 3 persons to cover everything in Foto and video. Do you just pass on some situations and prio Photography?
when the bride want to have a long edit of 1 hour not including the a separate film of the spechees. It took me 54 hours of editing. A hard wedding day lesson.
This is brilliant John. Dude you’re becoming my fave channel on RUclips. Love your positive outlook and keeping it real without hyping anything. I shoot 1 camera as a dedicated stills and a second as a dedicated video camera. Harder to miss moments and less repetitive. As a photographer I got sick of videographers who weren’t in-line with my style so I started offering video to my couples and now I shoot full photo/ video as I person. So far this year I’ve shot 28 weddings and only 3 as photos only and 1 as video only. It means I have full creative control on the day and the couples only have 1 contract, 1 set of payments and their day will have a similarity across stills and their film. I’ve kept my income consistent by dropping albums (nightmare) and offering video instead.
I really appreciate that. I’m glad you’re enjoying the channel. That’s actually a really cool idea to have a dedicated photo camera and then a video camera. I have to give that a try actually.
@@jbivphotography yeh man. Been a big fan of your content for a while. With eye tracking and gyro on the a7c I hand hold all day long and rest my other a73 with 50mm to stabilise and frame if shooting both together. For the kiss and recessional. The Moneymaker harness and gyro help make it possible.
Good tips John! One thing I would recommend if you want to keep your aperture low, Invest in a good ND filter to keep a shallow depth of field. And since you might not be able to shoot raw video, watch the white balance, it legit makes a huge difference. Great job bud!
This video, as with all your others, is excellent. Tonight, I'll be photographing event. Although video isn't required, I plan to try it out. Having covered this particular event for 11 years now, I believe it’s a great opportunity to experiment with adding video to enhance the coverage (and maybe charge more in the future). Your advice on managing both photo and video coverage was very helpful. Thanks!
The last couple of weddings that I shot, I had a GoPro Hero8 mounted on a bracket with my camera. Got some epic video!! I've definitely done the hybrid shooting with engagement sessions and love it! Thanks for the tips!!
Great tips John. Thank you for sharing. I have yet to try video with my Xt4. Would it be possible for you to make a video related to hybrid shooting and show how you actually set the xt4 in the menu for video? Thanks.
thanks so much for sharing your knowledge, im always been asked for video and i always say no because i dont have the gear, but maybe is time to save for another camera
10:06 I like how the guy went out of focus for just about half a second while walking across the bridge. Was that just a shallow depth of field or a focus adjustment?
John, If transitioning from stills to video, would the recommendation be to invest in larger and faster memory cards - especially if shooting multiple 15-30 second clips at 60fps? Great tutorial, as always.
Thanks John I just finished watching your shooting your first wedding video but I only have one camera (xt4 by the way and your videos helped) so I think the engagement session works for me! I think another plus is this aids in putting video content on IG. I’ve recorded holding the xt4 vertically and it was so simple in post! Anyway thanks for the vid!!!!
EXACTLY. Being able to hybrid shoot like this will give you much more access to content you can use for IG and other places as well. Which will help you get seen more, which will lead to booking more clients.
Hey JB4, excellent video! Thank you for sharing. You mention 60+ FPS but don't recommend a resolution. I'm guessing at least 1080 as 2k and 4K mean you may need to beef up your computer also. Also, I recall that you usually shoot with dual XT-4's. I generally shoot with two Sony cams (A7iii and A7Riii) would you recommend shooting video on one and stills on the other OR do you sometimes try to get the same perspective in the video as the stills so that they match up (meaning as to not have the video and stills have different "feels" (your word, not mine))? ;-)
Thanks for all the great tips. Trying to figure out the settings on my XT3 to set up the video to 60 frames per second and for the life of me... even after reading the manual... cannot figure it out? Any decoding would be appreciated 🙏.
seriously i always love your videos whenever I'm looking for photo/video or fuji stuff. there are so many annoying men on here talking about gear and you're NOT one of them lol
LOL. I really appreciate that. I try my best to talk about practical things. Too many people get caught up in gear like it’s going to make them better or make them more money.
This is for a one man setup, do you see any advantages to having a second shooter with you to get the video while you do photo or other way around as well? point being to get the footage in the moment instead of having to recreate things
Yeah totally. If you can afford to have a videographer come with you I think it's a great option. Also, it's a great way to get behind the scenes footage of you working as well which turns into promotional material. But usually it comes to a cost thing for me. If anything I would bake the cost of the videographer into the session for the couple.
What scares you most about adding a short video to your weddings or engagement sessions?
Missing a candid moment

Charging for it and completely botching it.

Learning the video editing part. I have the speed with Lightroom/photoshop/capture1, but not with the video editing.
I’ve done it for elopements and it can be really fun. The couples love a little 2-4 min highlight film along with their photos
EXACTLY!!

Seconded!! Keep that depth of field with an ND, it looks sooooo cinematic

Nice. That's a great idea actually. Then take the clips you got from the GoPro while also taking photos at the same time. Great stuff.
Would love to see some of the videos you created for engagements
John you are the best!
Thank you!
Shout out to John! Dropping Gems Thanks!!
Thanks! Trying to share all the knowledge I can!!
This was great. I guess i need to learn how to hybrid now. Thanks John!
Love this! I’m the other way round - a videographer transitioning into hybrid by improving my photography so love all your videos
Nice! That's great to hear. You'll have a huge advantage when it comes to shooting hybrid.

Glad you liked the video!

Thank you for these tips. Very much appreciated
You are so welcome!
I really want to try this, so I might do it on my next engagement session.
Nice! Give it a try. Let me know how it works out.

Great video. Definitely going to add video to my session. Was holding off on it
Nice! Yeah give it a try. It's easier than you think.
Been doing it for years. Absolutely great for marketing .
Totally. I need to start doing it more myself so I have video content I can use.
Great tips and ideas! Thanks
Thanks for the content
You're welcome. I'm glad you're enjoying it.

Yes larger and faster memory cards I'd recommend especially if you're shooting in 4k or higher.
Thanks so much, John. 🙌☺️
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching.
Hey John! How do you deliver the videos to your couples?
Awesome video once again! Can’t wait for the wedding photography bts dropping soonn 😍
I’m so excited. I’m having a hard time waiting myself. I want to just release it NOW!!
@@jbivphotography Well, there's only four hours left! :)

Do we need nd filter for this if we use 180 shutter angle role
Great audio on this. 👏

Hi John what about for weddings ? A lot of B&Gs are looking for Photo/Video Coverage.
Very interesting! I’m not so into extra income but social media extra material
Yeah totally. Being able to Have more content is a huge win all around.
Hey John are you able to do this with a xt3?
Yeah totally. The X-T4 is a little bit better since it has IBIS built into it. However if you have steady hands you can totally do this with an X-T3
Amazing!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Woahhh almost at 100k
I know!! I’m so excited!!! 👏👏👏👏👏
John's been drinking the Taylor Jackson Juice 😂
I need a video editing tutorial 😢
I'm totally down to do one.
@@jbivphotography yayyy
But how much $?
It really depends on your market and overall content. But a good couple of hundred I think would be fine.
John when are you dropping that natural feels track!?!
Can’t forget the lut too lol!
Lol. I thought of making it into a LUT but I know the last thing about LUTs. That would be hype tho.
