Academy Award® winner Emma Stone (“La La Land”) stars in Disney’s “Cruella,” an all-new live-action feature film about the rebellious early days of one of cinemas most notorious - and notoriously fashionable - villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil. “Cruella,” which is set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, follows a young grifter named Estella, a clever and creative girl determined to make a name for herself with her designs. She befriends a pair of young thieves who appreciate her appetite for mischief, and together they are able to build a life for themselves on the London streets. I hope so but this trailer is promoting female empowerment rather than a story of her becoming insane. If this is a movie about her going insane, then Disney did a bad job of advertising this.

I thought that until I heard the "I am woman hear me roar." Which I hope is just cruella being cringey and conceited and NOT framed in an "empowering/badass" light... this movie will either be good or just fucking bad, and knowing Disney... yea no this movie will be bad, as a film and for feminists

She was the only Disney villain in "Once upon a time" that wasn't redeemed by having a sad origin story. Instead they assured the audience that she was a psychopath from an early age.

To everyone who is sceptical about this because it's another Disney live action: give it a chance, this one is not like the other live actions and can be seen as a completely seperate original story and it's really great!

@@itsamunyall not really. They finished filming this in November 2019. I month after Joker released and 4 months before BoP came. And, Cruella exists for much more time than Harley Quinn. Harley is from the 90s. Cruella is from the 60s

Well in all fairness she never got to kill the puppies belonging to Anita and Roger. She made suggestions for doing away with them to Horace and Jasper but they were too numb in their skills to make something of them.

Well just a prequel about how Cruella become so evil, and cruel. And about her background story. It isn’t about her being “quriky”

Unpopular opinion: Maleficent worked as a redeemable character. She didn’t just randomly curse Aurora for no reason. She was literally the one person in the entire kingdom who wasn’t invited to the ceremony. And notice how she has an army of monsters but it’s never mentioned in the story that she’s trying to take over the kingdom. They’re basically butlers. You could make the argument that she was just misunderstood, bullied, and resorted to using her powers for evil. Her and the three fairies were the only characters with a lot of personality throughout the film and therefore, there was a lot of creative freedom to take.
Now, with Cruella, that freedom doesn’t exist. She wasn’t trying to get back at Anita for anything. She didn’t have some trauma that explained her desire to skin puppies for clothes. She just wanted to do so because she found it to be fashionable and there were no redeeming qualities to her. So, they could make a movie and tell her story in a compelling manner. However, it would have to stray even further from the source material.
She’s not misunderstood like how you can argue with villains like Maleficent or Hades. She’s not a victim of her surrounds like Captain Hook or Ursula. She’s downright evil and I can’t comprehend how someone can spin this into a tale where she’s a sympathetic character. I saw someone comment that next they’ll do one about the hunter from Bambi and that really isn’t a stretch. Both characters get satisfaction from killing innocent creatures for entertainment. There’s nothing redeemable there. Nothing.

Emma Stone NAILED Cruella perfectly. The way you gradually saw Cruella reveal her true, satisfyingly wicked character, and her revenge plan unfold, man, oh man! THIS is how you make a suspenseful, more mature film.

You really think Disney is gonna include something like that knowing the immense backlash they’ll get? I’m counting on them to try to redeem her character in some way, but I totally get where you’re coming from.
In stories the “kick the dog” moment is where the villain does something bad just so we know they’re the villain, she doesn’t just kick the dog she straight up tries to kill them for a coat.

@@DILIPKUMAR-wz7gp In the time when Joker came out I was on a binge for psychological drama/thriller movies. When I saw it, it touched every point I wanted feel in a movie. I’m not even a comics fan but that movie had what I wasn’t expecting in an anti-hero movie.
I can’t even express how much I want to forget about Joker just so I can rewatch it a couple of years from now.
I have to say; This has got to be one of Disney's best films of all time. The careful planning, the details in the whole movie, from the story of Estella when she was a child to designing the fashion to overthrow the Baroness, I have to say, everything fits so well together. Truly a beautiful masterpiece
I absolutely loved it too. For me personally, it’s tied with The Suicide Squad as my second favorite movie that I’ve seen so far this year.
I agreed with you, the details. I watched it many many times while it was at the cinema. And the details (as you said) were terrific.
I really hope she’s not portrayed as an antihero like they did with Maleficent. Cruella is a VILLAIN and we can’t ignore the fact that she’s a puppy-murdering psychopath
😍 I know, right...its her wickedness and evilness that you can't help but love. I even loved the Cruella De Vil character from the Once Upon a Time series. Though its possible that they might take a good to bad approach to Cruella's character...but if she was actually evil EVIL from the get go, I'd be sold and love her even more than I already do.

This trailer compared to Maleficent (where we do sympathize) is SOO different! by the looks of this trailer, I hope they don't try to fit Emma Stone (Cruella) into the strong female protagonist trope/ powerful villain with a devastating origin story cliche (which means they were just misunderstood so all their crimes are perfectly overlooked) even though the original backstory (101 Dalmatians) is built upon her skinning puppies and turning them into coats.

Disney is goin batshit crazy now, the lack of originality is already so obvious in this trailer. It’s Disney after all, so there’s nothin for be hopeful for.
That is exactly what this is. This will be more like birds of prey than joker. Joker portrayed a beaten down human at the very bottom of society reaching a breaking point. This shows her saying things like I am a woman hear me roar which points more towards her over coming challenges in the movie rather than being utterly broken and destroyed like the joker. The joker was a brutally serious movie that could have not even been about the joker but just about a guy who was an extreme social outcast. This looks way more light hearted and empowering towards her like birds of prey compared to how depressing and real the joker was. Most likely I see it being a flop just like birds of prey.
