    The intellectual chemistry between these two is something to behold, their instant analysis of how TS thinks. If trash loses, class wins out with their enthusiastic thirst for knowledge. Best of all their respect for their audiences and each other shines through. Finger on the pulse, "people don't change" I don't want this podcast to change!

    Great book recommendations! "Every Man for Himself and God Against All" is, as one might expect, *_THE_* most Werner Herzog-y thing, ever! From the most mundane moments of his early life in poverty to his wild life in film (not just with Kinski), Herzog delivers with his unique style of expression. Particularly recommend the audiobook, as Herzog narrates it himself.

    The Facebook group that got Killing to Christmas number one also raised £70k for Shelter and Tom Morello (guitarist and 1/4 writer) also donated his share to charity.
    Both Rage and Tom McElderry where signed to Sony so it was still a large corporation who had the last laugh.

    I cringe a little hearing these two applaud the concept of ‘not caring about the money’ then details the clever moves Swift has made to capitalise on her success and talent. If you think she doesn’t care about the money then you’d think she’d do everything at cost with say a 50% on top for herself (like all businesses). Does she? Nope.

    Wavelength is an awesome game! Very simple to understand and great to play with a bunch of people. Despite the fact it involves calculating "What do my team mates think the answer is?" I managed to play for about 2 hours straight with people I'd never met before and we all had a great time.

    Man of the year/Person of the year used to be whoever had the most words written about them in Time magazine. Now it's meaningless because they changed it so Trump didn't win it. I am not against it going to Taylor I was against triple J not giving her the hot 100. However when they changed to rules and giving it to "the activists" was where the award jumped the shark.

    What fascinates me is that regardless of gender if this was 1985 they might be making the person of the year Bob Geldof but in the era we are now living in we value stars literally for their star power but woe betide any of them if they ever try and change the world for the better. God Forbid. This is 2023.

      Like it or not, Taylor Swift in her own way has had a greater positive effect than Geldof ever has. She's certainly more talented, and a better human being. Now, time will tell if she's genuine or as fraudulent as Geldof, but I'd bet on the former..

    Something I've noticed about Taylor Swift is that, in practically every news article that mentions her, there are numerous Taylor-haters who feel a need to visit the comments section and express their hatred by saying something like “I don’t know any of her songs” etc., and then they will also say something like “She’s overrated.” As of the time I’m posting this, I do not yet see any comments of the type I’ve mentioned, but this page is an incredibly rare exception to the rule. Anyway, I suspect that she is on track to become even more famous by being touted as an "ethical billionaire" (some have already started calling her that) or "a world-be billionaire who keeps herself off the billionaire list by giving away her wealth." (Dolly Parton already has that honor but Taylor, who is only 34yo could become Dolly x 10.) A lot remains to be seen, of course. Taylor seems to have the heart for it, but she has only just hit the billionaire club. Time will tell, but even if she does live up to the glowing expectations, I suspect that her haters will keep hating.

    • @therealunicornselene
      @therealunicornselene 10 месяцев назад +5

      Here you go: I don't listen to her music. Her haters are definitely part of why she's so big. I'm glad for her even if I'm not a fan.

    • @gaylenwoof
      @gaylenwoof 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@therealunicornselene This is something that intrigues me. When you say you "don't listen to her music" my assumption is that you've heard a few of her songs on the radio and felt "that's not for me." I knew of her hits for over a decade and thought - "they're ok, but nothing of much interest to me." Long story short, I ended up listening to her deeper discography and, from roughly February and March of 2023, I became a “closet swiftie.” I didn’t want to be a fan, and certainly didn’t want to publicly admit to being a fan, but eventually had to admit that I was a fan. But my point is that her pop hits on the radio never pulled me in. For me, a few songs from Midnights tentatively pulled me in, but folklore and evermore made me obsessed. Then I went through her entire 10 albums in chronological order and eventually discovered that I liked them all to some extent (she keeps “growing” on me - which is to say, I’m continually falling in love with songs that, on the first couple of listens, I considered to be “skips”).
      Sorry for such a long-winded way to simply ask if my assumption is correct. Is it fair to say that you only know a few of her pop hits? (BTW, I’m not saying that you’d necessarily become a fan by listening to deeper cuts, but I do think that, statistically, there is a good probability that you would do so because she has such a wide range of styles and genres - which partially accounts for the mind-boggling number of music industry records she’s been breaking as literally millions of people this year fell down essentially the same rabbit hole that I did.)
      Anyway, If you are willing to test my theory, here are a few examples of songs you’ve probably never heard:
      Taylor Swift - the lakes (Official Lyric Video)
      ruclips.net/video/tOHcAc3r2kw/видео.html
      Taylor Swift - "False God" (Live on Saturday Night Live / 2019)

    • @Hexon66
      @Hexon66 10 месяцев назад +3

      @@gaylenwoof I _actually do_ appreciate your effort in that response. It's a very cogent point. I'm an old-timer, 70s is really more my era for music. But I've gone through her catalog, and I like some albums a lot more than others. Red, 1989, folklore I love, Reputation, Lover not as much. They all exist in the same musical universe, but yet are still vastly different. People who say they aren't "into her music", haven't really investigated.
      I'd compare it to people who say they don't like Dylan. What iteration of Dylan? The 60s protest Dylan, electric Dylan, the Nashville sessions Dylan, the intensely personal, introspective 70s Dylan, the born again 80s Dylan, the resurgent 90s Dylan, or the 21st century grand master version?

    • @gaylenwoof
      @gaylenwoof 10 месяцев назад

      @@Hexon66 Well said. BTW, I was at Dylan's concert in Akron about a month ago. I can't imagine wanting to tour at 80+yo. I'm only 65 and I'm already finding that simply attending live concerts is starting to be a challenge - let alone performing in them. I probably won't be in the mosh pit at Metallica any more. ;-)

    Ren is the most important musician of 2023, I don't know him, look him up. His genuine worth massively trumps Taylor.
