    My parents ran a village post office in the 90s, as their pre-retirement job. When Horizon was being introduced, my father, who was an engineer and pretty tech savvy, was not happy about it all. He spoke to the PO district representative about his concerns, as he could see it was a very flawed system and he could foresee potential issues with it. The rep just said, off the record, that he understood my father’s point, but they’d invested a lot in it and it would go ahead, come what may. So they were aware it was problematic, to say the least. Luckily, my parents retired before they had to use Horizon for long. It’s shocking that some of the main culprits are still not being held accountable. Kudos to ITV for raising awareness of this disgraceful scandal.

    It is worth noting that, for all the credit we give ITV, they did still cave to corporate structural pressure in one particular way: Adam Crozier was head of Royal Mail from 2003-2010, but doesn't at all feature in the drama series. Adam Crozier was also head of ITV until 2017. Small quibble, but it's irked me, at least.

    The thing I'm really enjoying while catching up with this podcast is the behind the curtain peak at the industry from 2 people that have been in different media for years and have really interesting insight. It's really interesting to hear about sports events and in previous episodes things like syndication of shows. It really puts logic behind the seemingly random decisions behind show cancellations.

    The difference between sport vs entertainment awards is that film vs film is not the same as team vs team. It's more akin to event vs event, which is not how sport works. You don't pitch football vs cricket, or tennis vs basketball, so you shouldn't put harrowing drama up against wacky comedy when choosing "Best Film", or put a dramatic heart wrenching performance against a brief amusing cameo for "Best Actress".

    I live in India, and Traitors sounds like the game Mafia that's extremely popular in India and has been popular for at least 15 years.
    People often play the game at parties, and other get togethers.

    • @Accountforstuff

      We have the same game in the UK too, but it is known as the werewolf game, commonly played at scouts camps and the like. The traitors is slightly different in that they can't have the "good guys" win too early as that would ruin the TV format, so they fudge it by having new traitors recruited as old ones are found out, which completely changes the game. It makes it so really the best strategy is to work out who a traitor is, pretend not to know and become their ally to protect you from being voted off, then throw them under the bus at the end.

    It seems the reason that The Bear falls into the comedy category at the Golden Globes is that the episodes are 30 -ish minutes long - and historically that was deemed a sitcom or comedy length whereas a drama will be an hour long.

    the trouble with Richards "glitch" in series 1 of The Traitors about the last 2 that come down for breakfast were also one the shortlist formurder hence they must be faithful is.....only the viewers could spot that glitch....the contestants had no idea about that during the competition

    • @Accountforstuff
      @Accountforstuff 5 месяцев назад

      Well no, but it's not inconceivable that someone intelligent could have thought to themself, I'm on a TV show, the TV show will be done in stereotypical ways for drama, the coming down for breakfast is one of your key drama moments, they'd probably do it like this. There is a quirk in the first season of the Australian version of the traitors, where someone gets to the final five who otherwise is barely ever shown on screen, which led to a lot of people confused asking who the heck they are and where did they come from! It turns out they purposefully cut him out as much as possible because he kept saying things like "well this is a TV show, they're going to be showing a lot of content about traitors and the camera Crews keep following x, y, and z people far more than anyone else" etc.

    On the traitors theme, I’ll bet the producers egg people on to do a piece to camera or set up a three way chat where people come out with the bollox they come out with. The game plan of staying stumm only works with one person; twenty people sitting silently staring at each other for four episodes don’t make good tele

    • @johnpotts8308
      @johnpotts8308 Год назад +1

      Almost certainly. It might help you win the game to be invisible, but it makes lousy TV. The Producers will cast people who won't keep quiet and will blow up any conflict as much as they can.

    *Tennis* : 6 games * ( best of ) 3 sets. So max number of games is 18 + 3 tiebreak games that decide the sets. Richard's idea is 3 games in 6 sets. So maximum is 18 + 6 tiebreak games. So actually 3 more games. And those tiebreak games can go on and on if having to win by 2. So tiebreak games' rules would have to change. For example, only have tie break games in the last 3 sets, and have them be best of 5

      @aidanknox122 it's not a spoiler because you'll not watch it anyway, haha, so I'll let you know that those people "turned away at the door" were brought back to enter the group again halfway through, giving them the benefit of not being able to be banished or murdered for half the season, but with the downside of being the outsiders in a group that have formed alliances by that point. One of them made it to the end

    Award shows are for the people attending. If you don't like that thing then don't watch them. No one is forcing you to so why should you complain. In fact if you are the industry and you don't like them then tell everyone you never want an award for your work and refuse to accept them since you think them not worth it. Put your money where you mouth is.

    I don't get The Traitors. As Marina said, it's just a social game going by who you like or not. The Faithful have no mechanics of sleuthing out a traitor. If the traitors had some kind of incentive to manipulate group challenges, then maybe. But as it stands now, it's just fishing in the dark and not very entertaining. There are enough social deduction party games, the producers should have taken one as inspiration and implemented something from them to make it at least a bit strategic.
