This is one of the few hard rock groups I enjoyed in the 60's-70's. "Smoke On The Water" is their most popular song. Everyone has heard that famous riff. The events sung about really happened. It happened in Montreux (Switzerland) in 1971 when, around the end of a concert by "Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention", a spectator fired a rocket that ignited the whole casino & it went up in flames (it had to shut down and reopened only in 1975). Deep Purple has lots of great songs such as "Hush", "Kentucky Woman", "Lazy", "Woman From Tokyo", "Fireball", "Highway Star", "Child In Time", "Speed King", "Space Truckin'", etc.
Awesome! I loved your reaction to this great classic version! This is one of the few live versions of anything I would ever request, but the sound and performance are probably the best live version of anything done by anyone ever. One of the rare times the live version surpasses the original.
The majority of the footage is from the 3rd night of the Made in Japan dates, it is available with the actual audio from the 17th August 1972. This audio is Osaka on the 15th. The film was released as part of special deluxe edition and documentary on Made in Japan. It is the only (almost) complete song footage left. The other bits were released on a couple of different dvds
Yes, some of the footage is from "Made in Japan" while other footage sources are New York 1973 (which actually is in colour but here transformed to black and white!) and "Live in Denmark '72" (which has both official released video and audio). Both the New York and Denmark shows were officially released on the dvd "Live in concert '72/73" in 2005 as part of "the Deep Purple DVD-video archive collection"-series which also included the famous "Live at the California Jam '74" concert.
Along with Paul Rodgers from Bad Company, Ian Gillan had the greatest voice in rock and roll ever. Fun fact; on the original Jesus Christ Superstar album, he sings the parts of Jesus
So happy you reacted to this classic! Thanks!
Our pleasure! Rock on 🤘 💙
