Him speaking about Chi at the end ripped my heart out
+Brandon Erwin Yeah, it was tough for me as a fan, I can't even imagine what they went through.
Brandon Erwin mine too, brother!
Yes, saddest part of interview
Felling yas there, that was really lovely sentiment to end the interview on. Never a bad time to tell your mates you love them.
Me too dude
Abe is a really cool guy, man. He seems like such a relaxed, funny dude. You can hear the Deftones aesthetic in the way he talks. You can just tell these guys have been on the same page for the 26 years they spent together. It's like a group of friends from high school that always stayed best friends; didn't grow up, just got older.
And then listening to the way he spoke about Chi and how we wrapped up the interview, it just broke my black, lil heart. "God, we miss Chi. Love you, Chi."
:,)
Kolby Kauffman I met him in Vegas. he was so fucking cool! nice and humble!
not gonna lie, it made me cry.
This is one of the greatest most heartfelt comments I've ever read on RUclips.
I've always loved Abe's drumming. so unique.
Graphic nature 🙏
As a drummer myself, Abe is a long time idol of mine. He is certainly one of the best, most energetic drummers out there! He's also an amazing personality. Just as he said, Chi Cheng is dearly missed by his fans as well. RIP brother!
4 years later and i still watch his shit
"His spirit soars through us." I like that. R.I.P. Chi.
He seems like a really friendly and down to earth guy. The tribute to Chi is really heart warming and genuine.
I'm a simple man. I see Abe Cunningham, I leave a like. 👍🏻
Simple Man
I love you Chi, i was crying by the end of this
i love everything about the Deftones!!! The greatest band ever! Everything I write and play is inspired by that band!
"I love you Chi"...😭😭😭🙌🙌
Abe is so upbeat and positive
Abe is so positive and happy. I like him! Always have! Rest in peace Chi. You're a great man that lives on in good memories.
got into deftones late last year, but i have mad respect for his talent and contributions 🕊️
he's always a pleasure to listen to, such a well spoken individual!
Abe always tells it like it is,no bs
This was magical - Especially the ending! I actually felt a little lump in my throat..
Looking forward to the new album
damn. 4 years later. i got a lump in my throat and i'm waiting on the new album.
Gore and ohms both rock!
Man that moment about Chi. As the seasons change. I think of Chi. My big brother. I love you Chi. Whew.... Watery eyes.
abe is a cool guy. id buy him a beer
Man, you can tell that Chi was a true friend. They always speak about him with so much reverence, I love how they keep him in their hearts.
Growing up I never understood how/why people could cry b/c of a movie, song, show, etc. Then my best friend died in a motorcycle accident. After that, the floodgates to my empathy opened up. The last part of the interview about Chi....I can relate. R.I.P both of you.
My favorite drummer, what an awesome video. Hope there's more to come.
Tim Kelly mine too! I wish there was more drum videos of him. Does he have a DVD or anything?
RIP CHI!!!!
This hit right in the Feels man.
Hail Deftones.
That last part about Chi really got to me RIP Chi
The personality on this man is such a thing of beauty. Also, his pronunciation of "moustache" gets me hahaha
Nearly 30 now wow. Timeless band. Still rocking Adrenaline!
Just posted a drum cover in honor of this guy. Taught me as a kid.
Abe is the man...love how he's always got a chill vibe.
I've met the Deftones twice. They are all super down to Earth. Abe got me backstage at my first Deftones concert in Virginia. Man, I was so stoked.
We love you Chi
RIP Chi.
Abe, you're the man.
a very well spoken dude right here. Deftones forever!
Not sure why but him reflecting on Chi at the end got me. Sitting here with teary eyes thinking about how heavy that must weigh on those guys even now years later. R.I.P. Chi
I met the deftones in 06' and they were really awesome. Abe was the the nicest one out of the band though. and Chi was also a delight and very thankful for his fans. R.I.P Chi 💔
What were Chino and Stef like
I was front row at a Deftones show, a few years ago. Abe was outta drumsticks, but he saw me screaming for one, the closest thing was Sergio Vega's Chicago Bears cap, which he forgot on top of his amp. Abe threw me that one. Thx for the memory and an awesome show. See you guys again in June.
Thank you abe the way you started talking about chi instantaneously sent big tears streaming down my face. I know how it felt in a way. Biggest reason my i started listening to deftones in the first place. Both my best friends past in car accidents after high school. We were all very tight and looked out for eachother for many years. Chi is watching over his brothers. Love.
Abe Cunningham greatest drummer ever in rock
Fuck, the end got to me.
I remember staying in the same hotel in Vancouver as the Deftones in 1998 for Van's Warped Tour. I remember heading out the lobby to the line up across the street and Chi was going up to his room. I was 16 and he had this intense look to him, so I just nodded "Hi". He saw my (Like) Linus kitty shirt and smiled and nodded back, then rushed to his room. They killed it that day. When the show was done, I ran into Steph on his way out of the lobby with his BMX.I was a mix of high from the music of the day, and exhausted, so I was a stammering wreck when I told my favourite guitarist he played and awesome set. He just smiled, shook my hand and said thanks.
Abe is the MAN!!!
One of the best drummers of our time. Hands down. Had the pleasure of meeting him in 2000 and he's a stand up guy.
Jesus I did expect to be moved so much by this interview!
i learned a lot frm these drummers my dad first, don brewer, niel peart, john bonham, and last but not least abe cunningham.
Now I’m crying at work. Beautiful monologue and video, thank you.
The part about Chi at the end hit real hard. I’m seriously touched by it.
The pictures of the band from '97 - '00 are so iconic. Love it.
Love this guy, love his drumming.
abe is so sweet what the fuck, a beautiful cinnamon roll too good for this world, too pure
Thank you guys for repping Sac so well for all these years. I have so much love for you guys. Been a fan since 98 and I've lost count of how many of your concerts I've been to. #OneLoveForChi

Abe's drumming on Digital Bath is what led me here lol. Highly underrated.
Thank you for posting this. Great little interview. I still can't believe Chi is gone. These guys are all like brothers. R.I.P. Chi.

Such a nice video!! And Abe is pretty much my favorite drummer in all of music.
Chi lives for ever !
Man he got so somber at the end talking about Chi. Rip Chi
Love you, Abe!
Thank you for this.. as a 49 year old ex punk/hardcore kid from NYC I never dug much about 90s music. But one band gave me solace, it was the deftones, and as a drummer of 35 years I fell in love with Abes ability to not only play drums...but to help "paint" the song with the beats he'd lay down
Such an amazing drummer ❤
Good to see Martin Short still having a good time!
oh fuck abe is HILARIOUS
My favourite drummer! And im a Tool fan too.
Abe the prophet of an awesome snair drums and tums! Great words and more to come! April Hate!
Abe opened up like each one of us were rightt there, sitting across right across, passin the piece. ... We love Chi too Abe!
I love you Chi! 🍁 💜
I met Abe backstage at the Summer Sanitarium tour, I think in 2002. He said hi to me first because I think he could tell I was super nervous. He is such a cool dude. The whole band is. I always wonder what they would sound like if Chi was still here. Miss that dude, he had a wonderful presence to him.
Rip Chi ❤️❤️
I really enjoyed this interview, man! I'd like to translate this in Spanish... If you grant permission I can do this and obviously give you guys the whole credit, those last words.... Damn! Heartbreaking, I Love You Chi!
Please reply this comment or msg me, thank you so much for this! 🙏🏽
One of the best drummers of all time!
I am always inspired by this guys' music and their ways.
Wonderful tribute to Chi... We all miss you. We miss your bad ass bass guitar!!!! Forever in our hearts... Listen to Change guys.... you will then understand.

Keep doing your thing Abe.
cool 😎
I wish this was an hour long.
fucking love this guy
Great work
Saw that taste of chaos concert at arco. Smoking bowls listening to digital bath was an epic experience. I can’t begin to explain.
Abe Cunningham and chi cheng comprise one of the most legendary, and criminally underrated, rhythm sections in the history of rock & roll.
Rip from Lodi, Chi. One love
The picture of them in New Orleans is my favorite. I had this poster on my wall when I was 16 and I remember I would always try to get my hair to look exactly like chinos in that photo but never could get it quite like his.. I came close a couple of times though haha
I knew this guy was special when the drums kick in on Feiticeira
Damn I miss Chi.
