      When buying Euro coffee-makers, they use the 1.6oz-2oz = cup. Think of those little espresso cups - li'l pinkie held out thusly... those are 1 or 2 cups. Thank you for your research... I am unhappy with all drip-coffees but I do use a French Press frequently.

      @@CampingGuidance I love my Bialettis but they demand have have creamer/half-n-half AND a wee bit o' sugar. If I use French Press, I can take the same grounds and drink it BLACK. It is so much smoother, all because of the high-heat required for Bialetti's. My complaint about French Press (and drippers, possibly perco's, too) is the beverage FEELS THIN and watery. Because, hey, IT IS! The thicker Bialettis AND that Half-n-Half give me a much thicker drink in my mouth.

    • @bitfenix90

      @CampingGuidance, I just pickd up a very nice non-Bialetti off-brand and it's terrific. But it's "9 cup" is 450ml. Bialetti's 9-cup = 525ml. A bit over an ounce of difference. Not a big deal and, in fact, I am discovering that I finish 450ml but seldom 525! Those bottom 2oz in my coffee cup is thick, bitter and cooling. I gotta reheat it. So this new smaller one is actually getting a good amount of preference.

The only thing for scoring, I would personally be adjusting for variance between advertised vs actual capacity. I see the Coletti scores higher than the GSI Glacier Stainless, when in reality the Coletti is ~45% less than advertised vs the GSI Stainless which is ~17% less.

    What a beautiful video …amazing dedication and lot of research …..you have paid attention to even very small details…..really nice…I have subscribed to your channel.
    But that being said percolators make bad coffee. It’s drinkable but all the subtle nuances of coffee are lost in the high heat. I drink perc coffee once in a while with dark roasts.
    Regular manual drip or even French press are good choices….but your video is really amazing.
    Stainless steel is always better and long lasting. Just clean it with mothers mag and it will shine as new.

    Thank you for your comprehensive review. I've found the same flaws with enameled pots and the ones without the percolator knob on top are unsatisfactory for my needs. I don't want to keep opening the lid to see how well the coffee is percolating. My pot gets black and sooty from the campfire and stainless cleans up much easier and looks nicer than aluminum. The Bialetti is in a different league. I regularly use mine at home and with a small hot plate I can brew coffee in a hotel room. BTW... my Italian friends never wash their Bialetti with soap. They just rinse it under the faucet... as I do.

And yeahhh I don't understand how the enamel and aluminum ones did so badly, now I just have extra pots at home that I don't use 😆 Stainless is the best, cleans up well too - you're definitely right! And thanks for the tip on the Bialetti! I try not to use soap when I can, but sometimes I just give it a light clean with a tiny bit of soap 😅

    • @Dav-S5658
      @Dav-S5658 9 месяцев назад

      @@CampingGuidance Liz, Yes it does make a difference being visible in your videos, but I think that showing more of your personality, and perhaps your face here and there would be a game changer. Here is why I say this. let me back up a bit. Your reviews are among the best I have seen from a technical standpoint. What stands out to me is your ability to understand what to test. If you ask insightful questions, you get meaningful answers. You show a very high aptitude for that! I have been an engineer and entrepreneur for over 40 years. I have worked with many engineers coming out of places like Stanford and MIT who struggle with this application of insight. So this makes your reviews extremely valuable from a technical standpoint, This will bring people in to learn about items they might want to buy, but you don't want people stopping there! You want people watching every single video you make, including the ones about things they care nothing about. To do that, people need something else to visit for, and that something is YOU. Your face, your wit, your charm, and your sense of humor. I'm certainly not saying that you should put on an act, or abandon the style of your channel. Just be yourself and spice it a bit. Keep the excellent and thorough voice over, but maybe interject little quips here and there that are you speaking to the camera. You might be surprised. These are just my opinions and observations. Take them for what they are worth. For a percolator, I bought the 6 cup version of the Coletti. Until I watched your review I was set on the small GSI Glacier. Your comments about the handles steered me to the Coletti, as well as the glass top knob. I did not realize that the GSI uses a resin top knob until watching your video, so thank you!

    • @CampingGuidance

      @@Dav-S5658 Hey David! Oh wow your kind words make me blush, thank you so much! 🥰 It really means a lot to me that you enjoy my reviews and all the technical details that much 🥰 Hmm and you're definitely right about wanting people to watch every single video I make, I think Luke and TOGR does that really well, but it makes me so nervous to do that! But noted on the little quips and maybe the speaking to the camera, I'll try to make baby steps to make that happen. It's scary though 😅 But I really appreciate your comments and insights a lot! Oooh and I'm glad you got the Coletti! Let me know what you think of it after you've had a chance to use it 😊

    • @Dav-S5658
      @Dav-S5658 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@CampingGuidance Liz, Yes Luke does a good job of this, but it comes very natural to him. I think pushing your personal boundaries a bit is healthy. It pushes back the fear and provides a bigger world to live in. I'm speaking from personal experience here. I started stuttering as a child, and it plagued me all through school. I lived in terror of any type of speaking before a group. It literally made me sick! After I got out of school, I realized that I had to face that fear in order to be successful in life. Overcoming something like stuttering is extremely difficult, painful, and time consuming. Now, 45 years later, I can speak to anyone, and even a large crowd does not phase me. I can even say that I enjoy it. Trust me, I understand fear! I won't kid you though, exposing yourself more also exposes you more to the most pernicious elements of the internet. Even the sweetest people can become a target for this evil. Whatever you choose to do, take it in bites that you can swallow. I'm not encouraging you to fly by jumping off a cliff! You know yourself far better than I do. I apologize for putting all this chatter on your comments! I looked for an email to contact you personally, but did not see one. Feel free to take this all down if you wish. You won't hurt my feelings! I wish you the best Liz!

As an obsessive researcher, I really appreciate your thorough reviews! However, we've decided against going with a percolator for our camp coffee. I think we're going with a pour-over method using a Sea to Summit collapsible kettle and their collapsible x brew dripper into a yet-to-be-determined insulated tumbler for both of us. I'm iffy on this topic because coffee is an important creature comfort to us that we want to maintain and a comprehensive overview of the options would be helpful right now!

    Hi Liz, sorry if I missed it, but how did you determine when the coffee was 'done' brewing? My wife and I were gifted the Stansport enamel perc for our wedding years ago and haven't been able to get a super good brew down on our camping trips. Was helpful to learn about the capacity issue are common as our boils over every single time when we filled it up to the bottom of the holes similar to our at-home plug-in perc. Just found your channel today. Love your videos keep up the great work.

    • @CampingGuidance
      @CampingGuidance  2 месяца назад

      Hey Vince! There's actually no way to determine when the coffee is "done" brewing. If you wait too little, the coffee will be very light. If you wait too long, the water will be boiled off. You can typically see the steam coming out the spout, so that's when you know the water's boiling. After that, I usually wait 7 minutes for the coffee to perc. You can experiment with a slightly longer to shorter time, depending on how strong you like your coffee! 🥰

    I use the Coletti for both camping a daily use. Best tasting coffee ever.
    Edit: putting a little bit of cold water in your percolator will help settle those grounds faster, although you might have to compensate that dilution by adding a bit more grounds, but in reality you shouldn't have to do that.

    Coletti considers a "cup" to be 5 ounces, hence the 9-cup model producing about 45 ounces (per Coletti FAQ website).

      Thanks so much for the input and comment Gregory! 😊 I think GSI (if I remember correctly) also has the same "cup" measurement, but not all companies do.

    Please review a percolater that is appropriate for backpacking: lots lighter, 2-4 cups, made out of . . . titanium?

      @Travis Tramps Continental Divide Trail Hi Travis, thanks for the feedback! Sorry I don't have as much experience with backpacking as I do with camping, but I'll keep it in mind for the future! 😊 But during my research, I don't think I came across any backpacking percolators. They tend to be quite big (6 cups and above), and even the lightest material (aluminum) didn't make it lightweight, and aluminum isn't as good quality as stainless steel.

    The Farberware stainless percolator is now 40 dollars. That’s wild compared to just a year ago.

      @Dosta Girl Thanks for letting me know! Oh wow that's pretty pricey now. I got it for less than half the price just 2-3 years ago.
