      It is part (4) of the Taekwon-Do Oath:
      (1) I shall observe the tenets of Taekwondo.
      (2) I shall respect the instructors and seniors.
      (3) I shall never misuse Taekwon-Do.
      (4) I shall be a champion of freedom and justice.
      (5) I shall build a more peaceful world.
      In this case it means to vigorously support the cause of freedom and justice.

      @@DonatoNardizzi Could there be times when rules conflict or are they listed by priority. For example, the fourth rule championing justice and freedom may happen at the expense of creating a more peaceful world. Should justice and freedom supercede the creation of peace? Is there any guidance on this?

    • @DonatoNardizzi

      Good question. In my humble opinion , I believe peace and harmony supercedes freedom. For example, we can take away the freedom of criminals and imprison them in order to protect the public.

    With a hierarchy that includes “grand masters” I would imagine that humility isn’t one of the tenets.

    • @DonatoNardizzi
      @DonatoNardizzi  5 лет назад +6

      Humility is not one of the tenets, but Taekwon-Do moral culture does encourage us to be humble. There is nothing wrong with having a heirarchy of titles to represent a person's status in a particular field. This is to represent their position. E.G. A TKD master is an instructor of students up to the level of International instructor, and a grand master is an instructor of all levels up to master. It is the behaviour of that person that determines a person's humility or humbleness, not the title. To denounce your title given to you by others would be disrespectul to those people who awarded you that title. That would not be an act of humility.

      @@DonatoNardizzi I have a question... how and when tkd itf practitioners learn this tenets. I mean, when we attend to our local tkd itf school, we do our Tules, we do our sparring drills and we do some sparring very often. But I do not hear my sabonim V Dan telling us that we have to be humble or to be courteous. I mean, all taekwondo schools are likely to compete so instead of talking about 'moral rules', we have 'competitive rules' . Because if you are used to compete, you have to have a winning mentality. I feel that the vision of martial arts is too romantic due to all that hollywood martial arts movies. Martial arts is not a place where you put on your dobock, your belt and pray to Choi. Is a place where you go thinking in the next tournament. Is a place where you are learning to win. That is not bad. But the only difference with combat sports is that we can not knock out our opponents and we have a score system style of fighting. However, I struggle to found any difference with any other SPORT.

      @@ezemeza1363 This is a very important question and it highlights what is wrong with most Taekwon-Do schools and the way that most instructors teach. First of all , Taekwon-Do is not a sport. These are General Choi's words and I agree with him wholeheartedly. TKD is a martial art with a moral culture. There is no problem with competitive training and attending competitions. But to focus only on this misses out the bulk of what TKD training has to offer. A good instructor is one who teaches the entire composition of TKD and teaches moral culture by; leading by example, lecturing about moral values and providing 'food for thought' for students to ponder on moral issues

      @@DonatoNardizzi first of all, I am a yellow belt with green stripe so I have disrespected you, grand master by not calling you with your rank. Please forgive me. And I am very glad that you have answer my question. I wish you were my grand master. I am from argentina, but the world is small. Grand Master, your videos are amazing. It helps me a lot to understand our tuls and how make it well. And after I posted that question, I watched the other video about this topic. And now I understand a little bit more about our principles. Do you have an instagram page to get in touch? I could send you information about tkd itf in argentina. Tae-kwon!
