Joe Duplantier is insane. As a metal vocalist I have no idea how he sings those growls with so much melody and great prononciation. And his clean vocals are also beautiful. I wouldn't classify Gojira even near to "classic death metal". It's so technical and nowadays even more progressive. Such a great band.

4:50 I think I understand what you are getting at, here. Even as a self-proclaimed metalhead, I too have this issue. A lot of these heavier metal bands tend to lose sight of the foundations of good music in favor of trying to be as brutal as possible. Some folks like that, but it becomes much more niche at that point because it transforms into raw noise more than anything else. Gojira is definitely heavy, but they also make sure that everything works well together and has a nice groove to it. I think you find this in a lot of the more successful heavy metal bands. It's still a very intense listening experience, but its not overwhelming because there is a rhythm you can follow.

I LOVE Gojira. They have swing and groove for days, and it's not cheesy "groove metal" crap, either. Lots of catchy, syncopated riffs and that wonderful swing Mario (drummer) provides at all times. They also have a great sense of dynamics, tension and release, and their song "Lowlands" really is a showcase of that approach; they spend most of the song building up a huge amount of tension, then at just the right moment the floodgates open and the BOMB DROPS. I'd say that in the Venn diagram of Death Metal and Prog Metal, Gojira is right in the center
Gojira is often classified as Tech-Death because they have elements of both prog and death.
I'm like a year late but the "stickers" are tape, he's got an in ear monitor keeping his tempo, and the tape secures the little wire to prevent it from being flown around
More like Beth Djents amirite?
Amorphis - The Bee
Very melodic, with strong and powerfull vocals
Amorphis is underrated. They are a great band
she said " she finds death metal rather intense" i find it calming and soothing, i could and do sleep to Gojira's music
Gojira are awsomme live and this track has so much power behind it, love it.
YES YES YES YES YES! My favourite "reaction" youtuber reacts to my favourite band! This is a good day! My only criticism dear Beth is that this is not death metal at all...this is groove metal...also want to punch the person that recommended this particular song (kidding, I got nothin but love)...but seriously, this is not in my opinion the best example of a classic Gojira vibe. For one thing, Joe is actually an excellent vocalist with clean vocals as well....he is not just limited to a screamo style and I wish you had been recommended a song that shows off his talents more.
