I am a young lesbian, and this movie means a lot to me. Sure, maybe it’s not the best, but it’s one of my favorite movies. It helped me feel like maybe I one day could love a woman too, and it would all be okay in the end. This movie has nearly made me cry because of how much it’s helped me.
as a 17 yo lesbian I watched ''but I'm a cheerleader'' just yesterday, and I FEEL SO EMOTIONAL WHEN I HEAR THIS SONG FOR SOME REASON I FEEL IT IN MY SOUL I FEEL SO CONNECTED WITH GRAHAM AND MEGAN I LOVE THEM SM
As you should it was ment to inspire our young lgbtq youth to stand on what and who you are and love there's always a chance if your willing to stand for your self despite the world around you telling you not too. Love is free from all bonds that trap us its the thing that gives us the wind to fly sometimes. But you can also love your self that way as well.
I remember being 13 watching this movie, and figuring out the feelings I had actually had a name. This movie helped me navigate being an adolescent and figuring out I was gay. Love this movie. Love this song. It’s been almost 25 years, and I’m still enamored with this movie and soundtrack.
I had the EXACT same experience when I was 13. I was actually watching the movie w/ my sister when I came out to her which she is the first person I told.
I remember sneaking into my room and watching 'but I'm a cheerleader'. I've always loved this song, specially the relationship between those two wonderful girls. A song that never left my side, even after all these years. Just beautiful :)
1,2,3,4 I won't take no anymore 5,6,7,8 I want you to be my mate 1,2,3,4 your the one that I adore 5,6,7,8 don't run from me cause this is fate (live this film)
i spent so much time looking for a romance movie between 2 girls with an actual happy ending and i can't believe i found about but i'm a cheerleader just this year. i wish i had found it earlier cause it would have been so helpful and comforting to me when i was figuring out my own sexuality. i'm glad i still found it though, so glad.
such a good point!!!!!! me too, i feel like so many gay romance movies nowadays have really terribly sad endings. i want to have some ones with happy endings too...
Kinda sad how your parents leaving you without a home is what we as queer people see as a "happy ending" I don't disagree with you, the ending was happy, but still sad that we can't just be accepted for who we are
LYRICS: Breathe into my hands I'll cup them like a glass to drink from Are you still, still breathin' Are you still Breathin' Are you still, still breathin' Are you still Breathin' Breathe into my hands I'll cup them like a glass to drink from
happy pride month! this song literally gives me the chills. watched "but i'm a cheerleader" over 10 years ago when i first came out. this song and the film means so much to me
I didn’t know why I was obsessed with But I’m a Cheerleader back in 2012 (I was 11) I loved it! I am now 20 and it’s still one of my favorite movies. Definitely helped me accept who I was and figure out what I was feeling
I remember watching "But I'm A Cheerleader" with my sisters when I was younger. I didn't really get the movie at the time. But I remember thinking about a few years ago, and the two parts I remembered were when Megan admitted her homosexuality and then the ending. But mostly, I remembered the song that played at the end. (Not exactly, I just remembered the lyrics and a little of how it went). Lately, I've been watching things on cheerleading so I can get back to it and decided to look it up (after all these years). I was excited for the ending because I forgot how it ended and I wanted to hear the song again (since they played it in the middle of the movie as well). I'm so glad I remembered.
As a lesbian myself, I agree that’s it’s a crime that this isn’t on Spotify or Apple Music. Some of the best songs are only on RUclips. That’s why I created a playlist on RUclips for songs that can only be found on here. 😀
I love, absolutely LOVE Cellos. It has such a sweet succulent sound! The music and words are just...no words. Plus the love scene between Graham and Megan. Touché.
The raw emotion in this song captures the terror of love perfectly, and yet it still makes it feel like something beautiful. Idk how else to say it but this song just makes me feel understood.
Watched this recently and wished I'd known about it as a teen in the late 90s. Made me pretty emotional remembering that time when you realise you're not straight and are like OMG I CAN NEVER TELL ANYONE because it was social death at the time, when everything bad was called 'gay' and there wasn't really a worse thing you could be in the eyes of other young people, and in a religious family. I forgot how shit teenage years were for queer people, before you find your queer brothers and sisters. I hope it's easier for youngsters nowadays.
Reminds me of the first love of my life Never have I forgotten about her And recently I found out thru a friend she hasn't forgotten about me She was forced to marry someone she didn't love by her parents because I Apparently Wasn't Enough For Her To this day I'm still breathing Her name This song says it all
I first heard this song when I watched "But I'm A Cheerleader" during quarantine with a friend. It was such a beautifully placed song for the soundtrack. But, all we could think about was going to a club and dancing like Natasha and Clea - to this song! It was a little too slow for me to actually shimmy to, so I spent some time remixing it to be a little more fancier for clubs, but this slow version always holds a place in my heart
I'm not gay, but when I heard this in 'But I'm a Cheerleader' it just made everything about it so much relatable (as it can to a straight person) and real. It's still so applicable to today. They should loosen up and show the movie and play the song in sex ed. YES I'M TALKING TO YOU, Catholic and whatever denomination/religion schools. Have you not yet learned you cannot 'pray away the gay'>
i think it was relatable because what they were experiencing was love - and no matter your sexuality, if you’ve been in love, then anyone can relate to a certain extent.
I felt the same, I’m straight but this song is exactly what love feels like, whoever it’s between, and that movie was such an amazing, raw and real representation of the homophobia in our society. And using this song was the best choice.
Who else is here because of But I'm A Cheerleader? Graham and Megan forever. ❤ sweetest love story ive ever seen in a movie. Not even gonna lie. First time I watched this when I was alot younger it made me feel more comfortable about my sexuality.
Fuck yeah, glad I see people on 2020 here. Im a straight guy but I used to watch a lot of movies with my sister as a kid, and we watched but im a cheerleader and I guess this song makes me nostalgic to being like 10 and just watching movies all day

Loving all the but I'm a cheerleader comments. That movie got me through being a teenage lesbian in the 90s. True story.
"But I'm a Cheerleader" helped shape a generation so being a lesbian in the 2010's might be a little easier.
Speaking as one mind shaped; I'm sorry.
Me too.
I love how this movies is helping me get through being a teenage lesbian almost thirty years after you.... this movie is truly exceptional

I'm not gay, but I am against Spotify's decision to not put this on their music app. Shame on them. I'm a straight ally to the LGBTQ+.
