      If I quote 10 jobs & the clients/builder are getting 3 other plastering quotes for the same job…I’ll probably get 2-3 out of 10!

      People should just pay for an inspection before purchasing a house and any defects found should then have to be disclosed by the seller/agents by law if not rectified in a set time. The way it works now, people get an inspection and use it basically as blackmail to get their price... like I did because I'm a tradie who used to be able to do repairs myself and have mates who work for a slab of beer. But good luck to anyone who doesnt even own a hammer... 90% of aussies. They're goner buy shit and have to either sell it hiding defects because they won't be habitable in 5-10 years and the cost of labour and materials is worse than food already.. or refinance their loan for what they loaned originally for repairs/rebuild 😂

    I spoke to your company recently. When I asked if I could book you personally ( i've watched about 20 of your vids and am very impressed) to do an inspection I couldn't really get a straight answer yes or no, or that was my interpretation. Above in your intro you say to book me contact your company. Could you clarify pls? Your'e doing an invaluable service, more power to your channel.

    The sorry thing is that most items here unless the building starts to leak a lot or fall apart little will be repaired. Even if all are noted today, its only if an item becomes a major problem that there may be some recourse.

    I think the building industry could avoid 90% of all defects if they made more sensible houses . The pyramids lasted this long because they basically used 1 material. Look at these houses he inspects and it’s hundreds of different materials that need special connections and fixings and joins and compounds etc . If the entire house was just made of brick or just made of wood there wouldn’t be so many failure points. Not to mention this flashy architecture. Keep it all simple but build it strong .

    “Unskilled trades?”. The fact is the building industry in Victoria is so heavily regulated to “protect” homeowners from the dodgy work you show us. The regulations only add cost and complexity for the home owner and as you show still result in poor workmanship.

    • @zchettaz
      @zchettaz Год назад +4

      It probably not because the trades are "unskilled", i think its more likely they're being pushed too hard to get it done quickly - this could be because the contractors have such a high workload that they're rushing either themselves, their subbies or employees, or because the builder needs it done last week.

      That's an interesting point, it's easier to build something simple than something complex. Less mistakes, less difficulty of repair, but none of these new homes make sense to me. If you're living father and father from the city you'd think "more space", yet the houses are built right up against each other. 90 minute drive to the city when there's no traffic.

    I did carpentry for 10 years I went to trade school for 4 . The biggest issue is carpentry isn’t licensed . Cowboys go and get a “builders license” with little or no idea and anyone with a few tools and a little bit of knowledge goes in and this bloke is exposing exactly what I’m saying .

    • @stevem815

      You should see what 'trade schools' have turned into now. There might be some good ones but what i've seen so far isn't even a joke. I just took on an apprentice and i'm pretty confident he hasn't learnt a single thing from them after 6 months.
      It all seems like a massive box-ticking exercise that these companies run to extract government subsidies, just like all the useless CPD point providers who basically hold everyone to ransom so we can keep our licenses. There's so many people now just going through the motions to fulfill some govt. regulation so they can extract money fir themselves from the whole mess.

I watched units being built next door to me and thought I would never buy one of those. Near enough seemed to be good enough. I bought a small house that enables me to do a lot of the maintenance for that I am most grateful.

They want to get it done quick they think that's what it's all about BUT as I got older I realise it's about QUALITY take pride in your work, if you have to go to Bunnings to get some galvanised nails, just go take your time and present good quality long lasting work. Because majority of carpenters are young Aussies, different story for your renderers tilers waterproofers painters they are imports with no official qualifications. New subscriber and can’t get enough! Curious you have lots of inspections with issues what is the ratio? Is this a reflection of the building industry or is this the state of small builders? And how does it differ on say a large commercial project? I’m in IT but have had several jobs with none compliant data cabling (longer 100m) and it has always been a struggle to get the “right” solution always met with compromises

    • @BMX73THE2ND

My step-father is a builder, he's the guy they call to do repairs on the 1900s government buildings etc., always super busy doing multimillion dollar builds, because people know he's good and doesn't cut corners. In his 60s, probably been in the business close to 50 years.
