    a f-10 map for a bout 30 sec once in a while, with some explanation would greatly enhance the viewers understanding of the tactical situation. Otherwise - great video AS USUAL. I LOVE THIS CAMPAIGN !!!

    Really liked this one. Everything I saw (except for the end, but we know what happened there) was awesome. I think the improvements made were awesome, the filming was really good and Blood's plan was great. It's one thing to have a AWACs, it's another to have a Air Battle Manager. The availability of the harriers without orders is something that could have been fixed using a ABM with a over all OPORD to follow. Also, secondary and tertiary targets could be assigned pre-H hour. If air assets need to be moved around the battle space you need someone to do that. AWACs is normally focusing on the enemy activity and vectoring fighters for intercepts and to cover stuff. But the over all battle picture, and the total assets in the fight are too big a picture for one asset to handle (thus the existence of JSTARs). Something to think about. Very good work. Keep it up.

    Cap at 36:46 when you were starting your Viggen and flipping between the shots of the Tomahawks a song came to mind that you might have wanted to use.... It's the theme to the 80's TV series Street Hawk by Tangerine Dream.... That could have been pretty cool to have playing while you were getting the bird fired up and flipping video shots.... just a observation :)

      It is using lift. The jet engine doesn't have much to push and it moves rather fast after initial rocket boost. No bugs there.

  • @kevinwoolsey9236
    @kevinwoolsey9236 6 лет назад +8

    You guys stayed focussed on the aim today and achieved more. You displayed Good concentration of force with tomahawk, ground and air strikes. Sure, bit of a shame that the Harriers had a litle nightmare because, for once, an effective CAP screen had kept the A10s alive to really mashup the primary target. How many times do the Hogs get wiped out with no survivors? not today! Despite that Harrier individual disappointment, (and the angry Harrier driver did have a point about what was briefed,) I would say you all performed at a higher level as a team today, and whatever gets briefed can get changed once the mission goes live. The GCI worked hard and probably was just maxed out with people all doing their best to keep situational awareness up...maybe he simply did not hear the Harrier request for trade...maybe a lesson, but on balance, a really good result for the blues!

    • @Red15
      @Red15 6 лет назад +5

      Kevin Woolsey Thanks for that honest review of my GCI performance, you're right about being very busy. I did hear their call for action but still felt that the harriers were too vulnerable with the carrier group that close to their SAMs. Then after some more incursions from Red aircraft (which I felt were better dealt with by the F-5 and F-15 CAP flights instead of putting a harrier with a mixed loadout against migs with pure AA loadout). Once there was a lull in the action I spent most of my mental capacity on making sure the CAP flights were reloaded and back in position. Meanwhile the other CAS group didn't suffer losses or heavy resistance so it didn't cross my mind to give Sabre the green light to wreck more havoc. When the Migs did come over the hill near the end of the mission I would think that having both the A-10 and Harriers over the Alpha region would have created utter chaos and we would've lost more airframes than we did. I do feel sorry about not using the harriers and will make more effort to follow the briefing timeline.

    • @kevinwoolsey9236
      @kevinwoolsey9236 6 лет назад +3

      Red15 With the extra detail in your reply I would now suggest you made the right call as the Commander on scene. Your rationale seems sound, and it would seem to have been to keep the Harriers on the deck and out of harms way. Yeah, the plan did initially include Harrier tasking, but things changed and you made a decent assessment of the best course to take..which did not include Harriers. It is, of course, a game, and it must have been a bit boring for the puff-jets ...so I can also understand that if they made time to go online they want to get involved and that is why they got frustrated, and at least one was killed if I recall. Depends on how seriously we all want to view things...Hardcore mil sim guys would perhaps argue that the Harriers needed to stay on deck, preserve their airframes, and not wander about unilaterally without proper CAP and get killed. Less serious view is, we all want to go flying at some point and not waste an hour doing nothing. Either way, it should still be fun, don’t fall out over it, and learn to take the wider view.the GRs kicked ass today and all should enjoy the contribution...if if,for some, it was sitting on deck not being killed. and you still did a decent job at GCI....I could probably offer some tips on your RT phraseology but, hey, at least you are there giving it a go. On another day the Harriers will get all the action and the Hogs will get smashed again.

    • @matchesburn
      @matchesburn 6 лет назад

      +Red15
      That fair, but I don't really understand why you'd allow the A-10s to go in to do CAS while holding back the Harriers because you felt it was too dangerous. Both the A-10 & AV-8 are primarily used for CAS. And both the A-10 & AV-8 are sub-sonic aircraft. And the AV-8 has anti-radiation missiles. They work well together and compliment one another's capabilities. And your Harrier pilots have actually shown to be pretty decent.
      Don't worry about letting Harrier pilots run loose, especially with other aircraft helping them. The only time Harriers shouldn't be allowed to operate is when dedicated fighters and interceptors are known to be there at that exact time or they can't run away fast enough to escape (which is more likely than the former). Basically, treat the Harriers like a more versatile but less survivable A-10. It can kill tanks, bomb installations and perform SEAD and even occasionally kill threats in the air, but it can't really do anything as well as the dedicated aircraft for those missions.

    I'd love to see a "Tactical Debrief" from you on this mission. There's quite a bit to learn if you focus on the CAP positioning and timing. Less focus on missile ranges and combat after the merge than the older Tac Debrief videos. I root for red, but the blue CAP flights got some flak in the comments here that is likely not warranted considering the Mig's location, red SAM ranges, and the AWACS calls blue CAP had.

    i do love all of your videos and appreciate all the hard work that goes into not only filming but editing all of these videos.
    I do have a constructive request that i think will make the vids better for the audience. It's very hard at times to hear the radio traffic because of the background music being of equal volume or louder than the radio traffic . I think it would be good to lower the volume level of the background music so that the audience can better hear all of the pilots radio traffic.
    Being able to hear what the pilots are saying to each other and GCI etc. really makes a difference for the person watching being able to understand what the pilots are doing and why. Unfortunately with the background music at the level it is in all the vids it can make it hard to make out what the pilots are saying especially since Simple Radio adds static and interference to the radio comms for the sake of realism. I do like the background music since it adds to the tension level of the video. So definitely keep the music in just make it a little quieter please.
    Thanks again to all the Grim Reapers Pilots for all your hard work on these wonderful videos and thanks to Cap for putting all of the vids together. You guys are definitely my favorite DCS channel on youtube. Fly straight but not safe, since you get shot down that way ;)

    Much, much better! If you plan this way, even if you take significant casualties the momentum of your forces doesn't grind to a halt. Two suggestions I can add. While everybody is jockeying into positions on the ground, you should label who is Red and who is Blue. They have different equipment but the differences are hard to see with the camouflage. Second, there was a lot of radio silence with the F-15's in the beginning. The AWACS longer ranging radar so I suggest that the "request bogey dope" call should be used rather than waiting for spikes to appear on the plane radar. The Russian planes have that Infrared seeker. I don't know it's range, but you certainly should get track of them ASAP.

      The first few minutes of tanks and guns and trucks running around show no such differentiation, at least on my screen. And Cap normally cross cuts the shots between the two forces. The equipment portrayed has slight variations, but they wear the same camo and are not nearly as distinct as the difference between a Flanker and an Eagle. I'm just a viewer not a gamer, so I don't get enough experience with DSC to always sort out the fine details.

      The game saves a track file for every mission that can be loaded after in a replay. It often desyncs in multiplayer as a client so Cap gets the track file from the server host.

      Don't forget that, effectively, the Harrier - at least the AV-8 for the USMC - is their dedicated CAS bird. Harrier pilots in the USMC get very focused and detailed training on how to conduct CAS. If you are a guy on the ground and luck is not on your side and an A-10 is not available, a Marine Harrier pilot is your next best alternative as a savior.

      I could see a campaign where Iran decided to occupy both sides of the straight in a surprise attack and the Reapers are brought into to help retake the southern side and then do damage to the norther side. I could see Carrier-born ops from the U.S.S. Boaty-McBoat-Face (I think that it's name, might need to get a new one) to work on securing the Arab side and then more aggressive ops from land bases to recapture the islands then eventually attack the Iranian coast line.

      viggen is very picky about the target altitude. If the altitude is wrong, the plane might think it's too high or too low for bomb drop. As long as QFE is correct, trigger guard is up, mode is either in NAV or ANF and weapon selector roll is set for either PLAN or DYK depending on the type of attack, the bombs should come off. Any of those things being wrong and the plane wont drop bombs.

    I have a question if you came in to a straight package. Low level and then went into a vertical climb. Would you be able to release your bombs as you were going up. Once released pull away from the kill point and fly off and allow your bombs to return to the earth and hit the target. I have never seen the Grim Reaper’s do this before. Wondering if it would be a tactic to get away from Brown fire.

      Toss bombing with dumb bombs is pretty inaccurate, its far better doing it using LGBs and buddy-lazing but that’s a difficult skill to master, and very dangerous for the lazing aircraft.

    Felt a bit sorry for the Harriers but I feel you're on a learning curve and certainly higher up than you were. Carry on the way you're going and I'm sure things will get even better. Special mention to the GCI, it's a thankless task but a very important one, keep at it. :-)
    The balance will come but these things take time and it seemed better here than in earlier missions. it looks like the right direction.
    Are the Mavericks still not working on the Harrier? I'm sure I've seen a video of you firing them from Harriers since the recent updates?

    That Harrier debrief really reminded me why I no longer wanna play inside any groups. The amount of salt and blaming of others... jeez. If you can't use your comms to get through at least improvise to make best of it instead of blaming others for your mistakes. It sounded to me a lot like they failed to turn on their radios on right frequenzy and then flew straight into enemy SAMS killing themselves (which in itself is pretty rediculous as the Harrier has a fairly good RWR.) Whining like this ruins the mood for everyone.... not just the ones playing but also the people watching on youtube.

      The harriers were waiting for a call from the a10s after they took out the sams. The call never came.

    • @Proximax9
      @Proximax9 6 лет назад +3

      Yes, but in such case they should try raise someone else. Say AWACS for example, as they most likely have best comms over the entire area, and ask to relay a message to the A-10 squad. If they can't raise anyone, the fault is in their own comms. If the A-10 screwed up their comms, they could coordinate with AWACS to get themselves upto speed.
      none the less, whining in debriefing for their own incompetence is just plain annoying.

    • @richardwales9674
      @richardwales9674 6 лет назад +1

      Pay attention then. They made lots of calls and said as much. If you're going to criticise then take the time out to listen to exactly what they say before you criticise them. If they don't whine who's going to do the whining for them; or, if they don't stick up for themselves who's going to stick up for them?
      The real point is it's a balancing act and here the balance was out and the Harriers suffered for it. But. You also have a very busy GCI controller (a pretty thankless task) Who heard their call and made a decision. The problem is if you've set time aside to play a game and you're sat around doing nothing you're going to get frustrated especially if someone else - who should have called you in - is blowing your targets away.
      I've said this before about mono missioning. If the A10s had been armed for the mission they were required to do, then when they'd done it the Harriers would have to have been called in. The A10s could then have RTB-ed re-armed and returned if necessary. The first thing I said when I saw it was, why are those A10s carrying Mavericks and GBUs? Arm for the mission you are required to do, get in and get out. If anything this continued insistence of arming for targets of opportunity is what's causing the problem. If they have the loiter time and your CAP is stretched call the A10s back over the fleet and SAM coverage, send in the Harriers then send the A10s back if necessary.
      There was a way around it and the Harriers have a right to fight their corner.

      Yep nobody likes to watch others complain but to be fair those guys ended up twiddling there thumbs for an hour. I hate to say something that would add even more complexity to these missions but you maybe need either alternate targets or the ability for Squadron leaders to make a decision to do something else without repercussions. In the end this is not realistic war - it’s a game and people need to get up in the air and have a crack if they are going to turn up. Harrier drivers know what they can do and perhaps should be allowed to develop their own target tree based on current intel and switch to an alternate if required

    Awesome video. Like it. Hell of good pictures. Nice use of the fleet. The Mig-29 is smoking like the old f-4 when not on burner. Remebers me ot the old rhino flying here in Germany. But maybe you need a little GCI training. E. g. Bullseye control, bogey dope, picture calls for CAS. Why do you use callsingns like Hammer and so on when everybody use the nicknames?
    The A-10s did a good job. hasnk and keep on fighting.

    The debriefs just seem to be people talking about their limited success and then other people pinning blame for things on more people. Also, why didn't the harriers go for the sam net and the A10's go for the tanks. They don't have that 30 mil for nothing...

  • @GeauxGillespie
    @GeauxGillespie 6 лет назад

    The reason your bombs didn't drop was because your way point got switched from M1 to L1. I've had the same problem in the Viggen. Try one of the drop modes in ANF so the way point doesn't switch. It is possibly bugged in NAV and switches anyway.

    • @Proximax9
      @Proximax9 6 лет назад

      the waypoint doesnt change if the trigger guard is up. NAV/PLAN mode is used for level bombing with drag bombs so switching to ANF would just make things worse as ANF/PLAN mode is for slick bombs

    • @GeauxGillespie
      @GeauxGillespie 6 лет назад

      Safety wasn't up till after the waypoint switched. Re-watch it

    • @Proximax9
      @Proximax9 6 лет назад

      That's why the waypoint switched. If the trigger guard had been up it would have not switched.

    • @Proximax9
      @Proximax9 6 лет назад

      NAV/PLAN is for drag bombs which you had under your wings. ANF/PLAN is for slick bombs which have different ballistic values from drag bombs. Using ANF would have made your bombs fall way short.

    I a not 100% certain but I think you must have been in master mode BER when you tried to drop the bombs. I have sen you switch to NAV before takeoff, but while inbound to the target your waypoint marker on the HSI was pointing at 180° all the time, that is the position when you are in BER mode. This would explain the Riggen not releasing the bombs

    • @GeauxGillespie
      @GeauxGillespie 6 лет назад

      I think it was on NAV. He was set on M1 then at the target it switched to L1 which I believe prevented the drop.

    • @grimreapers

      Grim Reapers yea I have seen you put it in nav before takeoff. But I can’t explain why your hearing indicator on the hsi was pointing at 180 the entire time of it was in nav. Do you have the mode selector mapped to your hotas? I have, and I have changed the mode on accident before

    • @CakePrincessCelestia
      @CakePrincessCelestia 6 лет назад

      Defninately in NAV. in BER the HUD stays cold. The marker stuck to 180° is a bug at the moment, same as the HUD image not being aligned to the horizon anymore. Might get fixed tomorrow when the Gulf map udpate arrives though, it's fixed already on the dev's side AFAIK :)

    • @FINkahvikuppi

      It's cancerous. There's a jarring transition from the ground to airbourne which can cause crashes in formation takeoffs. The ground also sucks you in when you're landing. Inflight the thing is too stable and behaves like a game, more or less

    • @CakePrincessCelestia
      @CakePrincessCelestia 6 лет назад

      Which flight model? :D
      (it's the SFM btw)
      Luckily the Fulcrum is the last one of the FC planes to get a FM finally. And I hope they'll do that before coming up with FC4 which I'd nevertheless would appreciate anytime though. Also the Flankers need some serious work to be done on their FFB code.
