Hi Richard. You drove out ALL that way, took ALL that time and effort for the corner of a fence and a few rusty spikes.....and what a wholly inspiring video you created again. Not only that, we all saw too, what you were rewarded with at the end of that shoot. This will be why people will come back to watch you time and again even months later. Thankyou that was fantastic!
Wonderful as always Richard! Love how you take the ordinary things most people would pass by and turn it into a beautiful scene. Thanks again for the inspiration!
Yet another simple everyday subject we drive past daily and not think twice about for most people made into a beautiful milky way nightscape and very nicely done as usual Richard, it was a pleasure to come to your exhibition finally meet and then witness your images first hand as prints rather than on a screen and I'll be using your calendar as inspiration next yr making sure it's hung where i walk past each day.
Great image and brilliant work picking the location, well worth sorting out the challenges of the night. Great to hear that the exhibition was a success as well.
Yet another truely beautiful shot. I think I would have overlooked those nails and been more concerned with those giant ants ( probably very poisonous ). None the less, the final image was terrific. It's a shame you are so far away, I would have loved to have visited your exhibition.
Loved seeing you go about setting up the composition, Richard. Great subject, great image. Love our wide brown land. Just ordered the USB (already have your beautiful 2024 calendar).
First of all, many congratulations on the exhibition, RIchard! I can’t imagine how much work that would have been, but hopefully it was gratifying seeing your images displayed in print. Great video and images; I love the way that tree in the mid ground is framed through the hole in the wire fence. 👍
Thanks so much for watching Paul. Yes the exhibition was exhausting but it went really well. I loved seeing that tree in the hole in the fence as well.
Another great video Richard, you never dissapoint, its always important to pay attention to detail, I try to but sometimes I miss things and theres nothing worse than getting home and thinking "oh bugger I wish I'd done this or that" but I suppose its how we learn. Thankyou
I just love your light painted images, especially with the Milky Way down low on the horizon. We don't get to see it like that here in the United States. I actually did a light painted scene of my own, the other night, using your technique and I was very pleased with the result. Thank you for all of the time you spend teaching us.
Fantastic exhibition Richard! I love the glassless framing style you use, just makes the images so much more vivid when not dealing with glare and reflections. Love how shaping light can completely transform an environment. It's something I think most of us at least subconsciously appreciate, but few really dive into to understand like yourself Richard. Fantastic stuff!
Thanks so much for coming along to the exhibition Dominic. Yes lighting is an artform for sure and it does take a lot of time to master the intricacies of it all.
Hi Richard! Beautiful composition. You have a great talent to take something most everyone would simply ignore and create a work of art! Well done! Jerry
I've just started getting into light painting, surprisingly quiet at night albeit creepy sometimes. Your images are simply stunning, many thanks for showing how you take them along with the settings used, it really helps. Thank you
Hi Richard - Greetings from England! Many thanks for another great video and, of course, a fantastic image. Your ability to spot a composition like this is off the scale - brilliant!
Beautifully simplistic Richard! Composition is beautiful and again your light painting is a true or work of art. I think it's about time you expanded your workshops internationally. There's an abundance of trees, fence posts and seascapes galore in the UK 😂
Another masterpiece created by your awesome talents and dedication. Love the horizontal pic, your just living the dream, hope the expo was a massive success. Still waiting for clear sky's here but at least the location scouting is going well bring on next year. best wish's to you and Glenys.
Have been following your channel for a while now, and have learnt a lot 🙂 Although I'm in the UK - the land of cloud and rain! - I lived in NSW Australia for 10yrs until 2016. I didn't photograph the MW much whilst there for some reason - instead concentrating on deep sky stuff with a huge refractor telescope and CCD camera. Regretting it now! I recognise where your gallery was at in Bendigo - we used to go down that way Gold hunting; Eaglehawk and the Whipstick area.
Great images Richard, both fab, but landscape one was my favourite. Well done on your gallery showing, mine starts tomorrow, but am sharing with other photographers. Thank you for all your expert input, you really kick started my skills in nightscape photography with your lockdown workshops online. In fact I recommend them to anyone getting started. Before those, it was alot of guesswork.
Beautiful Richard,oh fyi,the farmer wasnt worried about the missing weeds,he noticed the footprints & has now electrified the fence........🤣😂.....on another note tho, looks like i missed you again,i would have Loved to have viewed Your exhibition.
The images and story of the capture are truly incredible. As you've already discussed in other videos, simplicity is everything. One question: have you abandoned the Bentro Polaris? I hope that in 2024, you will use it again in your captures. Hug.
Thanks for watching Jorge. No I haven't abandoned the Polaris . . but I bought it for shooting tracked panoramas . .so I'll give that a go at some stage soon on Orion.
Hi Richard, Your compositional skills are second to none mate, the way you lined up Rho Ophiuchi just beside the fence post really elevates the image to another level, well done bro! 👏👏👏
Great video thanks Richard. Not sure how simple it is. Gardening part made me laugh. was most interested in your exhibition. That would have made an interesting video. What format was the super large print? Looked amazing.
Thanks heaps for watching Brendan .. yes the gardening is something I have to do a lot around here ..!!! The vast majority of my prints were my Fine Art Laminate type . .they are really good as they don't require glass. There were a few large canvas prints as well.
Another beautiful image. I have noticed that you do quite a bit of light painting; do you have a video explaining the hows and whys of light painting for those of us wanting to get into landscape astrophotography?
Thanks for watching. Oh, yes I have many videos on light painting. See here: ruclips.net/p/PLAYKmqkUeSM8ClDIP8j0WaGefrUMYlx8w and maybe this one: ruclips.net/video/oDDjEG9FbxY/видео.html
@@nightscapeimages.richard Thanks! I'm excited to start this journey, and I'm sure your videos will help me greatly. Already, I know to beware of wind!
Hi Richard, what a wonderful image that you made from what looks at first like something very uninteresting. I wondered how you could possibly make a good picture from that small fence post and a couple of old bits of iron. Wow ! You didn’t hold back there mate, what a fantastic image, I love it. It just goes to show if you have a decent imagination and lots of skill you can make photos from anything….Richard you are the man for nightscapes! I agree with Tony, get over here to the UK, in my case, especially Scotland and do a workshop, I would love to spend a day (night obviously) with you helping show us how to make a decent photo along these lines :) . I do have a question meantime, I know you use star trackers etc. it is there anyway that these can be done just using your camera on a tripod, I don’t have a star tracker….yet lol . Thanks again for sharing and educating us with such a great video 😁👍
Thanks so much for your great and supportive comments Duncan. Yes indeed you can shoot these images without a star tracker. That's what I did for many years . .and still do occasionally.
Great video, thanks Richard! I bought two of the Ulanzi LED panels. Will try them out during the next meteor shower in December (Death Valley, USA). I have never had a star tracker and thinking about buying one. Would you recommend the Star Adventurer Mini? (Not too worried about tracked sky yet). Thanks!
Thanks so much for watching Kerry. Well I have 4 different star trackers and I always go to the SA Mini for these tracked shots. It's the smallest and lightest .. also the cheapest. For wide angle lenses it's perfect I reckon.
Another great video Richard! When you listed your foreground image settings, you show f2.0-f10 and iso 800-1600. Does this mean you altered your setting for the foreground images and then stacked them in post, or did you keep the setting a the same for all foreground shots?
Thanks for watching Paul. I did shoot a couple of images for the foreground at f5.6 but I couldn't get focus accurate from front to back as I was pretty close to the fence post. So I stopped down to f10 to get a sharper and wider depth of field. I did still use the f5.6 image for the background part of the foreground. And yes I blended them all in using photoshop. It's really important not to move the camera between shots. Hope that makes sense.
Thanks for watching. Well a couple of reasons for this shoot. Firstly time was of the essence . .and the Polaris can be hit and miss with setting up and getting it running. Sometimes it's really quick but not so other times. Secondly, I really only bought the Polaris for tracked panorama shoots .. .so in this case I wanted simple single exposures. . the Mini is just so easy and simple to use.
That makes sense. I know how that is with my polaris. I was hoping it would be more dependable. I Love the concept. Maybe we will have better dependability with firmware updated. I love your work, keep it up!!
