  • There is a growing community of woodworkers with their own specialist RUclips channels, some of whom make their living from doing what they love, sharing projects and ideas with viewers. One of the woodworking RUclipsrs is April Wilkerson Triton Brand Champion for the USA who also provides valuable feedback on product development. April is the first to admit that she is relatively new to woodworking but with a passion for making and a determination to learn and share her knowledge she has gained a committed following for her RUclips channel.
Triton Tools caught up with April at her workshop in Texas, USA, to find out more about how she has turned her woodworking hobby into a successful RUclips channel that is now her full-time job.

I'm a high school art teacher, film teacher and fellow maker in Nova Scotia, Canada. I use April's videos as a great example of a creative problem solver. I make a point of featuring strong women in previously male dominated occupations. Thanks so much April and Triton for promoting women of skill.

Well done to Triton for sponsoring April, I have watched her channel from the start and she is always building something fresh. A lot of the Pro Tubers seem to follow each other with similar builds but April stands on her own two feet. Fantastic.

As a teenager I worked at at my uncle's custom furniture shop. I had acquired some woodworking skills but stopped when I graduated high school. I recently started watching April's Channel and she's got me wanting to build a shop and get back into woodworking I had never heard of Triton tools before but if they're good enough for her you're good enough for me. Thanks April and keep up the good work.

April is a winning Maker as much for who she is as what she makes. She is energetic, unafraid of challenges, and has a natural gift for communication.
I also think that a key to her individual success is that many of her projects appeal to women; and whether a woman is looking for advice on building- OR, a MAN is looking to validate the reason why he has all this "stuff" and space, TO his Woman.... these types of projects fill a real void on RUclips. I'm speaking of less utilitarian, more decorative projects, like the work she's done in her hallway, for example. These projects are great for woodworkers who want to showcase skills to their family and friends, make gifts, surprise their spouse.... and that is exactly what April has done with her time, to GREAT success! Many of us are in the exact same situation as April, so her videos feel like we're watching something a friend is doing!!!!
I REALLY enjoy her product (her entire output of videos and information) and is the first of hundreds of subscribed channels that I will go to when checking for new videos. WTG April!!! Keep up the great work!!!

I just recently discovered April Wilkerson online while looking to equip and finish a new garage / shop I'm building. This woman is gold! Great communication, understandable, doesn't over complicate, informative and entertaining. Learning a lot about tools I didn't even know existed. I couldn't be happier to have found April and subscribed.

I'm a 58 year old just learning about wood worker. I started out with a Dremel and a table in the corner of my garage. My wife saw me really getting into it. I make mostly art pieces. I found a really nice used skill saw at a yard sell and was pleased with it and now the desire to build is upon me. That's when i found your channel and Izzy.
Like you said there are lots of guys out there doing it and I've found that some of them don't really speak to my heart.Thankfully I've found you two guys. I'm still pretty slow at what i'm doing but the joy of stepping back and saying....'.I did that'.... brings tons of satisfaction.
    Thanks you're a great teacher.

5/19/2019 USA Grandpa Bill (Meticularius): Meticularius speaks: As a 71-year-old woodworker, destroyer, and reconstructionist, I feel inspired to say to all global viewers that beside Sir David Attenborough, April Wilkerson is the healthiest and finest on-screen presentation of any platform available to viewers old and young. She brings us herself and her family and her friends as an ambassador of goodwill, personal growth, and victories. If I had a daughter I would want her to be April. Her rise on RUclips is a testament to the American Spirit long heralded since our forefathers. My grandfather, Alexander Hamilton, and his cronies would have eschewed April's attitudes unless she was chopping wood and making soap in a cast iron kettle. April's "I can do this" fostered by her father is illustrative of the healthy relationship between father and daughter, so vivid against the backdrop of so many abusive relationships today. RUclips has the unique opportunity to foster such presentations to assist in growing a healthier America, while unfortunately providing a platform for some pretty sick stuff in obscure corners. I say we owe our children and our grandchildren the quality of April Wilkerson's daily growth as a developing fellow adult. Her journey is in a way our own journey through the wilderness of "Huh?" to the vista of "Ohh YEH!"

Great job Triton, and April.

As a Commercial Construction Superintendent I am super busy but my wife found your channel and has me helping her build things because of your passion. She has never used power tools or even knows the types of tools to use to perform the projects you have done. If it wasn't for you I do not think she would have broken out of her shell and even try some of the same projects as you do. Thank you for showing her and other women they can BUILD some cool things.

Kudos to Triton Tools for bringing Miss April in as Brand Champion for the USA! I don't believe y'all could have made a better decision there. I've subscribed to many different RUclips channels for woodworkers and DIY'ers yet I always find myself checking April's channel first and most. She brings a fresh perspective to this moderately overpopulated subject that not only draws people in and allows them to relate, but also makes you feel like it's more one-on-one with her expressions and actions directed toward the camera. I've no doubt this will be a win-win-win relationship for everyone. Her signature smile, shrug and wave always leaves me with a big grin. And those outtakes are fantastic. (Just a little red, Miss April. No worries.)

Well done April. I'm an old farts now but Ive made stuff all my life, culminating with the building of our home in Tassie between 1995 and 2002. During that time I instilled into my daughter, now 40ish, the yearning to build, grow and renovate. I'm incredibly proud of her efforts. Your efforts inspire me to share your video with her in the hope that some of the things you do might inspire her too. God bless ya and keep up the great work.

I'm a welder and do fabricating. I also love working with wood. its stress relieving from my full time job and I have to say that I've watched dozens of woodworking videos here on RUclips and your videos by far are the most informative I've seen. you explain what you're doing in great detail that anyone, being a man or woman, can understand. On some of the videos made by us guys, it seems that they don't want to "reveal" all of their secrets when building and making different projects
where as you hold nothing back. maybe it's just me. I know when I'm restoring an old car or making a part out of fiberglass I'm always happy to show what I did and how I did it. Anyway good luck in everything you do.

April is AWESOME'...Love her videos, she's a solid down to earth lady who enjoys woodworking to its fullest, and she builds her projects better than a lot of top woodworkers I personally know. I'm a contractor and I've been viewing Aprils videos for awhile now and I would hire her over a lot of men I hire that wind up not knowing a nail from a screw. What I admire about April is she has learned her trade on her own by seeking out the answers to her many questions, which I would guess where many, and she has become very, very good at what she does. I would hire her right now to build new homes and I would bet she would out work and out think many of the guys in my crew that work for me now. Triton has picked a real winner with April.......A BIG THUMBS-UP TOO APRIL!!

I came upon April's RUclips channel early on with just a few full build videos. I was so excited and even proud of April when she went full time. Excited again when you became her sponsor. The thing I like most about her videos is she shows everyone that just about anyone can build something. My wife and I between us have 6 kids and 4 of them are girls, well women April's age or older. April should be proud to be a role model of the woodworking, home repair/improvement world.

Congratulations April! My name is Sergio and I follow your channel in Mexico. You have that special characteristic of the not-pro creators who are driven by their own ideas and needs, so the outcome is a very rich video that inspire other people to make no matter the inexperience. For Triton, this is definitely a good deal, because you represent that market in which we are continuously looking for great tools at a reasonable price knowing that we are not professionals but, as you correctly mentioned, passionate.

April, you are one of the 30 some people I am subscribed to mainly because one of the topics I love is wood working and I definitely think your content is put together with great thought. You talk to us like we really do have brains and don't repeat yourself a dozen times trying to get your point across. That's why I always give you a thumbs up........

I could feel her passion for what she is doing in this interview. Something about doing something you love so much just makes some people so emotional, you could tell she wanted to cry.

The concept that your not in competition with others that do the same as you is perfect. If only we could teach everyone to understand that not be thinking that you have to beat anyone. Just do what you love. Different personalities and perspectives are what make us strong some people will connect with certain people and others the same. I like watching April Wilkerson to get different perspective and different ideas.

Just saw your links for the first time today, very impressive. I taught Industrial arts for 35 years and if the higher ups had not cut out most of our programs you could have learned many of these skills in a high school woods class. It was decided that these skills were not important to adult life. Keep up the good work.

Great video ! I'm glad to see another Lady out there being passionate about what they enjoy doing. I have been building AR-15s for me and my wife this last year. After watching some of your videos I have been wanting to get into woodworking. Sure I have made some little L-shaped bookshelves. But now I'm wanting to make my own gun cabinet. I recently purchased a new craftsman 10" inch contractors saw. Then bought a used router, and a big kit with all kinds of different bits. Next working on buying a craftsman 15" drill press. Hopefully by next Saturday August 6th.
I am getting ready to start a table sled and then a home made router table. So you creep up the good work . Oh and thanks on the plans on the fold down table. I made about 3 so far out of old wood doors they were being thrown away.

Super video April. Our area hometown girl started out just like you with an idea and a desire to do it. She did tv spots once a week at the local tv station. Today she is all over the tube. You know her as Rachel Ray. Your on your way girl. Good Luck.

I love watching people start from nothing and grow. I've been watching the work that April Wilkerson does and hers is doing just that. I truly believe the days of getting a degree in a subject are coming to an end. I not only watch the woodworking community but the auto body community as well. There is a long list of communities that are out there to give you information in the subject you are interested in. You only have to take the time and search the web of your interest. I'm already skilled in many areas but still I am watching woodworking videos to help me gain more knowledge in the field. By no means am I good at it yet, but would like to get a good grasp of it for when I'm ready to retire. I too will start putting videos up to help others. I already have a few videos up in a unrelated field and would like to slowly move toward more woodworking.

To be honest I started to buy Triton products before I found April but when I subscribed and started to watch all her videos I felt even more confident with my decision.
Well spotted Triton - you snagged a great woodworking/DIY RUclips inspiration! :-)

Great camera work April! Triton, thanks for supporting this RUclips community. On the surface people see it as just a company giving tools and money to someone making video but it is much deeper than that. It is knowledge trickling down a river and along the way it snowballs to everyone and inspiration is borth and views are making. As a content creator myself, I see both sides of it and can greatly appreciate the inspiration trail the Woodworking Video Creators are doing. We entertain, inspire, and motivate the world to get in their garage, shop, shed, bedroom, wherever it is and build something!
