I was a mechanics apprentice for 1,5 years. We started getting more and more electrics and hybrids in the shop just in that short time. Changing the 300V battery of an electric is the most joyless work I have ever tried. And so I stopped.
And to think, I had dreams of becoming a mechanic and working on upgrading my own cars. Well I guess that's it then, I'll see you all from Tesla's factory line.
dont worry sythetic fuels are being produced by porsche as we speak. They plan on making it the future of cars. WIll work just like normal petrol but with no emissions. It will also work in any petrol car no matter how old ;)

Car culture is not going anywhere. Just because someday we won't be able to buy a " new " ice Car, doesn't mean all of a sudden millions of enthusiast vehicles disappear overnight.
The phasing out of ICEs is not the biggest concern - for every 1 "good" ICE there are usually 10-20 mediocre ones. The real problem is the insistence from car manufacturers to abolish right to repair and push subscription-like features. I don't care if the future is electric, fossil fuel, hydrogen or fart-powered. However, I'm deeply concerned that manufacturers will soon revoke the most crucial aspect of vehicle ownership - and the reason why a lot of people got into cars; freedom. The freedom to go for a drive whenever you want, seek employment or opportunities in places that used to be inaccessible, working on your own vehicles/personalizing them, pushing the abilities of man and machine, etc. I'm concerned that one day, the freedom to "unlock" a new way of life will be a memory, unless you unlock your vehicle by paying a $19.99/month subscription.

Fun fact: in the 70s and 80s, the US government told Ford and Chevy to stop researching running cars off of fuel vapors. At the time they were getting 50 mpg from their carburators. People who made their own fuel atomizing devices in the past 20 years have seen 100mpg and above.
@@Gwestytears mechanics wet a rag with fuel and put it over the intake if they believe the car has a fuel issue. It's the same basic method. There are many experienced technicians who go into detail about it if you would like to know more
I hope that electric cars take over the market and/or public transport is improved to the point where there's no need to ban combustion engine cars, so enthusiasts can still use them, while the vast majority of people use other forms of transport

There's a part of me that's looking forward to a possible rebirth of the underground tuning scene. It'll involve more traditionally computer centric means, but when electric motors start becoming off the shelf parts for modification/conversion. Much like the bootleggers of old, it might be illegal but damn will it be fun. That all being said, I don't think electric should be the end all especially with alternative fuel projects like what Porsche is attempting. But due to legislation it might be too late. Give and take I guess, at least for the end user.

There were times when IBM ThinkPads could have every components changed. Now, the standard is macbooks. They're fast, efficient, but they're no hobbyist machine. As for phones, well, you can't even remove the battery. That's how cars of future will be: A solid block of shaped metal, with no visible creases or anything on there bodies (just like you don't have creases on the back of your smartphone. 10 years ago, it did have a crease from where the back popped of and exposed battery.) If changing computer-controlled electronic components were so easy, we'd be doing all the time on our phones. Don't like the camera? replace it. Truth is you can't for various reasons, chief of them being the various companies who manufacture different components (say, Qualcomm for SoCs, Sony for camera sensor) won't work together to create a standard for this kind of compatibility. So forget about modding EVs (unless there comes a company which produces EVs chiefly for enthusiasts but that is only a pipe-dream)
My dad owns a 1990 Mercedes 560 SEC like the one in the video, but dark blue. That car is my baby and the fact that people will one day forget about the golden age of cars is honestly depressing. I am not yet old enough to drive on my own, , but my dad promised me the car when I graduate high school. With the little time I have, I will spend time fixing her up and making it mine while still keeping the original feel.

They are irrefutably better looking, but also worse performing. most people realize that they'll never be able to get them or are focused exclusively on performance and can get more out of a lighter, more common and easier to work with car. Don‘t be pessimistic. A huge industry is going to form that intends to keep the ICE‘s of „old“ cars alive so that we can still enjoy them. As long as people are willing to lay money on the table for it, someone is going go find a way. Petrolheads will never die out, as long as there is still some kind of way to hear the glorious scream of a high revving engine.
And empires like Volkswagen will simply tell the politicians to fuck off and continue selling profitable ICEs over EVs they cant sell nearly as many of.
I'm not a car guy but the one thing I miss about new cars is that it doesn't feel like driving a car, like I'm going to hold onto my old stick shift for as a long as I can and if I get the chance to try to get an old MGA because those things are weird and a lot of fun to drive.
i really do hope i can become a mechanic before this happens, being a mechanic has been my dream and i would love to build cars someday and tune them into great vehicles, without cars i'll be stuck without any hobbies and i'd have to do something i dont want to.
You know as sad to think that the glory days of car culture might come to the end in the near future, at least one good thing is that Motorsports won’t be going anywhere yet. I mean that’s one of the main things of what has started it. Sure everyone’s got a different reasons and point of view, but to me I think that there’s a lot to be thankful for motor racing to shine a light on the cars that we love in the past and present. 👍

@@lengannduch7691 It makes perfect sense, combustion engines are bad for the environment. If you want your children to live in a world with a functioning climate you need to grow trees as well as cut back on the biggest sources of pollution.
One thing that bugs me about this is that the market is being forced in this direction, rather than letting the market move naturally in whatever direction the demand moves it, if unforced, we may have seen both types of cars be manufactured and sold alongside each other, rather than the seeming of one killing off the other. The freedom of that choice of being able to buy the car you want appears to be getting harder to come by each day.
I don't think EVs are enemy #1. There's great potential in EV tech. I just hope it's not gonna be 200 HP front wheel drive EV crossovers. I genuinely am excited for small, fun electrics to come in like a Tesla Roadster sized little EV that's maybe 40-50k and just tossable with instant power. I'm excited for the electric future...but the little, fun sports car segments should never die.

Hear my words. Though we may move to EVs and think that they are "green" and think that they are the way to the future. We are wrong on so many levels, we will find our selves coming back to diesel and gas. But if we don't, we will always remember our little Japanese friends (Man and Women) that made Skylines and Supra's and rx-5 etc. and find that we will always have room in our hearts for them. But I do believe that we cant workout the environment with EVs. Again, we will go back and we will keep the industry of J-specs and JDMs alive. Long live the true JDM industry

As much as I agree that climate change is important and we need to move on, the internal combustion engine is for me the biggest victim of our changes to try and protect the future
@@armand0077 in production they do pollute just as much if not more than gas cars. But when it comes to fossil fuel plants producing electricity, they are actually way more efficient than gas engines in gas cars. In cars there's a problem with wasted energy (heat) which isn't used in any way because that would add unnecessary complexity and weight. But power plants actually take care of this problem and have systems to utilize the generated heat for energy.
But ev's still won't solve the problem, especially considering the advantages of the normal car (extended range and prices for example) over ev's, and it will take more years than 2035 in order to make the EV car a better option. And besides, why don't we rather have all public transportation electrified first? And besides, why not make normal cars run on something else (synthetic fuel) rather than consuming more fossil fuels to make ev's? Also, big engines rock for life

We all know the change has to happen its inevitable even so id wouldve just like to see these have their glory days for a little bit longer and even when all the cars on the street have to become eletric im happy knowing me and a lot more ppl still worship these fine old memories
Theories for the future : (1). Electric cars will have safety functions limiting speed on highways and other roads,meaning no drag racing (2). Electric cars will have limited customization options meaning no insane tuning or crazy builds, including body kits. The cars will probably have some kind of third party part detection sensor kinda like iPhones now. (3). Mechanics will be no more since there will probably be repair stations made by companies specializing in electric cars, no engines mean no mechanics. (4). The ozone layer will be able to rebuild itself thanks to less greenhouse gas emissions. (5). There will be no gas expenses and countless companies such as Exxon will be shut down since there will be no use for gas. In short the future is pain either way: If gas powered cars are made to be illegal: No fun,hobbys,and less employment If they weren’t made to be illegal: Ozone layer will probably end up being destroyed and we are all gonna be fucked.
This is the reason why i am starting to deviate from my path for a automobile engineering degree. Cars are moving mechanical parts, not some big RC vehicle. I might change my mind to Aerospace or Aeronautics degree

Don‘t be pessimistic. A huge industry is going to form that intends to keep the ICE‘s of „old“ cars alive so that we can still enjoy them. As long as people are willing to lay money on the table for it, someone is going go find a way. Petrolheads will never die out, as long as there is still some kind of way to hear the glorious scream of a high revving engine.
And empires like Volkswagen will simply tell the politicians to fuck off and continue selling profitable ICEs over EVs they cant sell nearly as many of.
now that i think about it, i don't think people will just let ices die out like this either.
I'm not a car guy but the one thing I miss about new cars is that it doesn't feel like driving a car, like I'm going to hold onto my old stick shift for as a long as I can and if I get the chance to try to get an old MGA because those things are weird and a lot of fun to drive.

i really do hope i can become a mechanic before this happens, being a mechanic has been my dream and i would love to build cars someday and tune them into great vehicles, without cars i'll be stuck without any hobbies and i'd have to do something i dont want to.

You know as sad to think that the glory days of car culture might come to the end in the near future, at least one good thing is that Motorsports won’t be going anywhere yet.
I mean that’s one of the main things of what has started it. Sure everyone’s got a different reasons and point of view, but to me I think that there’s a lot to be thankful for motor racing to shine a light on the cars that we love in the past and present. 👍

One thing that bugs me about this is that the market is being forced in this direction, rather than letting the market move naturally in whatever direction the demand moves it, if unforced, we may have seen both types of cars be manufactured and sold alongside each other, rather than the seeming of one killing off the other. The freedom of that choice of being able to buy the car you want appears to be getting harder to come by each day.

I don't think EVs are enemy #1. There's great potential in EV tech. I just hope it's not gonna be 200 HP front wheel drive EV crossovers. I genuinely am excited for small, fun electrics to come in like a Tesla Roadster sized little EV that's maybe 40-50k and just tossable with instant power. I'm excited for the electric future...but the little, fun sports car segments should never die.

Hear my words. Though we may move to EVs and think that they are "green" and think that they are the way to the future. We are wrong on so many levels, we will find our selves coming back to diesel and gas. But if we don't, we will always remember our little Japanese friends (Man and Women) that made Skylines and Supra's and rx-5 etc. and find that we will always have room in our hearts for them. But I do believe that we cant workout the environment with EVs. Again, we will go back and we will keep the industry of J-specs and JDMs alive.

As much as I agree that climate change is important and we need to move on, the internal combustion engine is for me the biggest victim of our changes to try and protect the future

@@armand0077 in production they do pollute just as much if not more than gas cars. But when it comes to fossil fuel plants producing electricity, they are actually way more efficient than gas engines in gas cars. In cars there's a problem with wasted energy (heat) which isn't used in any way because that would add unnecessary complexity and weight. But power plants actually take care of this problem and have systems to utilize the generated heat for energy.
But ev's still won't solve the problem, especially considering the advantages of the normal car (extended range and prices for example) over ev's, and it will take more years than 2035 in order to make the EV car a better option. And besides, why don't we rather have all public transportation electrified first?
And besides, why not make normal cars run on something else (synthetic fuel) rather than consuming more fossil fuels to make ev's?

I got chill watching the video. Both the good once ( what cars existed and exist ) and the bad once ( what cars exist and will not exist ).
There is no more "Save the manuals"

Theories for the future :
(1). Electric cars will have safety functions limiting speed on highways and other roads,meaning no drag racing
(2). Electric cars will have limited customization options meaning no insane tuning or crazy builds, including body kits. The cars will probably have some kind of third party part detection sensor kinda like iPhones now.
(3). Mechanics will be no more since there will probably be repair stations made by companies specializing in electric cars, no engines mean no mechanics.
(4). The ozone layer will be able to rebuild itself thanks to less greenhouse gas emissions.
(5). There will be no gas expenses and countless companies such as Exxon will be shut down since there will be no use for gas.
In short the future is pain either way:
If gas powered cars are made to be illegal:
No fun,hobbys,and less employment
If they weren’t made to be illegal:
Ozone layer will probably end up being destroyed and we are all gonna be fucked.
It's pain for car hobbyists one way, and other pain is for the billions of other people
