  • This week, I built a 3D-printed mystery box that appears featureless but hides a secret LED display inside. Using an ESP8266 microcontroller and a 32x8 MAX7219 dot matrix, the display is controlled remotely via the Blynk app. The project is completely solderless, relying on a breadboard for easy assembly. The custom 3D-printed case conceals the display behind a diffusion panel, making the text animations visible only when activated. In the Blynk app, I created an interface that lets me enter text, choose entrance and exit animations, and adjust alignment and speed. Multiple animation steps can be added, previewed, and played in sequence at the press of a button. After testing different effects, the mystery box performed flawlessly, bringing the hidden display to life. In the next video, I’ll go deeper into coding the Blynk integration and modifying the Parola text animation sketch I created for one of my previous projects.
