Take your handle hunting finds to the next level. (1) Save some of be best of the outer and inner materials of the bag. (a: make new tabs for the attachment rings. b: Small pieces of inner & outer will yield a matching key fob. Or, depending on the size, other coordinating accessories such as a matching makeup bag.) (2) Save the zippers and magnet closures. Just rough cut and put into the container holding your handles. Use TV watching and/or doctor appointment waiting times to unpick the seams. Use the coordinating zipper colors in your new bag or for other projects. Especially the long ones and metal versions. And more especially, unusual colors. If you can't separate, for re-use, the magnetic closure, keep the magnet for other purposes. (Use on a magnetic bulletin board, DIY magnetic pin cushion, reminder notes on the refrig, etc. ) (3) Store with handles in a resealable plastic bag, till the handles are used. Then, discard, repurpose, or donate anything that you didn't use. I'd love to find a bag of assorted (in good shape) zippers at Goodwill !!! Just some thoughts. Thanks for sharing.
You can always use the same material from the bag to continue making the connectors. Thanks for sharing never thought about going shopping at thrift store for handles lol. Love your videos
Your video made me smile. I do the same thing. I harvest straps, rings, magnetic snaps, hardware and stiffeners and interfacing inside the bag. There is usually $30 worth of product in each bag. I have talked to the manager of an independent thrift store and she saves the unsellable bags for me. Usually they have ink stains inside. I pay 50 cents for them as they would toss them so a win for both of us. The Goodwill outlet (pound store) is another good place to look. I really enjoyed your video. Thanks so much.
Would love to see how you repurpose them, as those are some unusual colors. I don't know why it never occurred to me to look for straps to reuse. Good idea. I'd like to get into doing more purses.
You are a kindred thrifter! I often find interesting zippers on bags too. I weave rag rugs and have found many Egyptian Cotton sheets at my local Goodwill stores . The sheets are perfect for cutting up for my rugs. I’ve even made rugs from terry cloth towels that I’ve thrifted. You never know what you’ll find and it’s all great inspiring fun. Thanks for sharing your great ideas.
You did very well with your shopping. I haven't gotten to bag making, yet still on totes and smaller zipper bags so I'd be harvesting those zippers. Thank you for the video
Such a great idea! I would never have thought of that. I’ve been subscribed to your newsletter for quite awhile. I didn’t know you had a RUclips channel but am now happy to say I’m subscribed to it as well. Yay! Looking forward to catching up on your videos. Do you have a video for the pillbox? Have been reading about it in your newsletter. Hugs! 💝
Nice! Makes me want to go to the Goodwill store. I used to by my factory job work shirts there and got so many compliments on them. How do you make tabs for purses?
Just curious about the scissors you use to cut off the straps..cuts easily through fairly thick materials. Can you share the brand and type of scissors?
Kitchen shears would work well for this. Relatively inexpensive and heavy duty, they'll save wear and tear on the scissors you routinely use in your sewing space. Those sold at Walmart, Target and such will work fine for this purpose.
I do this and the thrift stores............Found a Coach bag for $5 bucks yes FIVE bucks only thing wrong was the base worn out. I took and recovered it and sold it for 75 bucks :D cha cha ching!
laura middleton Yay!! I also found a Coach bag in perfect condition for $8. I thought about selling it but decided to keep it and use it because I’ve never had such a nice purse!! Lol. I’ll be keeping my eyes open for more!
I found a chanel and coach in one day. Both were in great condition. Just needed good cleaning and use of leather nutrients rubbed into it. By the way they were. I say they came from same donor. Kept both. No way could I get rid of them. Beautiful bags.

This NEVER would have occurred to me to try! I've taken apart clothes from thrift stores, but not purses. I LOVE this!

You could use old belts for handles as well. The thrift store usually has them inexpensive. most belts will make at least two handles.

More bang for your buck if you use the zippers too! Thanks for your ideas. 😍
