  • For those of you living in a rental with no washing machine hookups, this is an easy solution for you.
    Most likely you'll need:
-Two Dishwasher Inlet Hose (yes, the dishwasher one) with a 3/8 inch female hose thread on one side, and a 3/4 inch female hose thread on the other side. This might need to be built up with a fitting the goes from 3/8 inch male to 3/4 inch female.
-Two splitter valves 3/8 inch female to two 3/8 inch male threads
-possible, two 3/4 inch male to male couplings
-some moxie (if you're old fashioned)
-other things that seem to make sense
(Also, please get permission from your landlord)
The total cost of the connection was about $50.

I knew this just HAD to be possible. Thank you, sincerely, for your thorough yet concise description and for reassuring me that this was indeed a reasonable project to pursue. We're now the proud owners of a brand new, full size, functioning washer in our 3rd floor apartment. Just finished our second round of laundry.
Take THAT, treacherous light-deprived backyard Chicago ice stairs that lead to the creepy basement laundry!
NOW whose ankle is twisted?! MWA HA HA HA HA HA HA HAAAAaaaa...
    PS - I am not a crackpot.

Thank you for the demo! This is just what I need to do in my apartment. i have a boy with autism who gives me a very hard time time in the laundramat! If i turn for a second he will disappear and I often have to leave it all to look for him resulting in a lot of lost time. It doesn't help that the laudramat in my area is filled with shady, SHADY people (drugs and other issues)...If i can pull this off it will save us from the laundramat! ;-D Thanks u again!

Thank you for this video! I went for a portable washer, and this solution will work in my bathroom. When I disconnect, I'll let the hoses drain and then store them under the sink so I can wheel away my washer. I hope you eventually bought a portable dryer - or that you've become a homeowner! I love the vibe of this video, the music reminded me of old PBS shows of behind the scenes in factories on Mr. Rogers and Reading Rainbow. Great job.

Correct. The challenge you will have to consider with having a dryer is where hot air vent will go. You can just put a good lint filter on the end of the vent and let it go into your house. (In the winter it can be an extra heater...) Or if there is a window close by it can go out the window.

    • @darmou

Hello, I just stumbled upon your great video, thanks! I’m trying to do the same hook up for my new portable washing machine, with my bathroom sink. I noticed that on the 3/4 side of your hose, the part that you hook onto your machine, there’s no shut off valve. Do I need one to shut off the water to the machine when I’m not using it to prevent leaking or water damage?
Your video is 9 years old, how did it go with your set up? Did you have any problem from not having a shut off valve? Thanks!

You can also put in a PVC why drain underneath the sink connecting for the hose and for your sink
If you own your apartment, you could also drill a hole through the back of the cabinets because it looks like he would only have to do three holes , and get plastic liners for the holes, and run your tubing and drainage tube through those

Do you need to put in cut-off valves for the hosing to the washer to minimize pressure when washer is not in use? Does the washer draw water when the faucet (above, not the vales below the counter) is not turned on? In other words, can you describe if there are any mechanical issues between the 2 water hoses? Many thanks for your help.
