I just ordered an iDraw 2. Same type of machine. I want to have it hand write cards and do Certificates. So lots to learn. There are not many tutorials on this but they all seem to end in using InkScape to gen the Gcode. I’m glad this video is in English. I watch other videos in Hindi or Tamil some in Bahasa Indonesian. Luckily the software is usually in English so I follow along.

1. YES! it can be used to write any assignments and stuff. whatever information you give to the machine, it writes/draws it.
2. If you have less time to submit your work, then i recommend you to NOT use the machine. Because it takes more time than our handwriting does.
3. If your main intention is drawing stuff, then the plotter really is helpful. I use my machine mostly to draw.
EDIT: Forgot to mention about the time. It totally depends on the text you give and also your machine settings. So can't tell exact time taken to write one page.
