I’m a high school science teacher that also teaches a STEM class. A few months ago, my students were proposing an idea of a device that could mount to my marker board and essentially turn it into an X, Y plotter. They appear not to like my caveman style of writing and drawings. 🤣. A cow is a circle, a cat is a smaller circle, a car is a rectangle with two circles. 😜 I’m definitely going to show this to my students. They may have to wait a couple of years for me to purchase all of the items, but this is an awesome project that can teach a lot of great skills. Keep up the great content and great work.

This is one of the most impressive do it yourself machines I have seen. That you constructed it to use a single belt is just amazing.

I had one of those back in the 80’s. It was called a pen plotter. Attached to my TRS-80 Pocket Computer 2. Had four color pens. Was pretty cool. Also had a cassette port and ram slot.

I had one of the little pen plotters until one of the nylon gears broke, wish I kept it. Amazon do a ready built version for about £270.

You can put a spring inside the pen on top side of it to let the niddle move into the pen body if needed so you dont have to worry about Z axis calibration.
Mind blowing it is a oshom machine it is mainly used for the person who can write from his / her hand

nice project, I like the idea of how you control the X and Y axes. However you're missing a major part in your descriptions. AFAIK Inkscape doesn't generate G-Code, and the UGS works only with G-Code. So how do you link both?

I've seen those. They're called "plotters." Don't even bother with the patent search. Imagine a day and age where you build/assemble your own television and other electronic peripherals.
