I did it today , putting an SSD in a Late 2009 21.5 iMac. Hardest part was putting the display screws back in. The magnets grab them all the time. Great helpful video, thanks!
@@poweredbyowc I was pretty amazed that I could still get the OWC kit for the Late 2009. It's now happily running a modern Linux from SSD, 16GB RAM, it's a usable computer again. Hotter than satan's armpit though, even though I cleaned out all the fans and vents whilst I was in there.
Hi @HarpingOn! Glad to hear that the L2009 iMac is usable again. Please contact us at support@owc.com or 800-275-4576 to discuss the heat issue; the thermal sensor is supposed to relay the correct temperature so the operating system can adjust the fan speed.
What"s the recommended Hard drive? I was thinking of an wd 4tb black caviar, will i need a temp sensor? or can i put a hybrid. which would be best? thanks
Hello Cro, as far as I am aware there isn't an imposed limit on size. Looking at the specs of the iMac10,1 (Late 2011 21,5") it appears to have come with up to 2TB HDD so there may be another issue with your iMac.
@@poweredbyowc Thanks. This page shows only 500gb option. My imac has 2.5 ghz core2duo, 6750 amd gpu, MC309, could you check? en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMac_(Intel-based)
@Cro Hawg Apple specs on mc309ll/a: support.apple.com/kb/sp623 However, the iMac12,1 does not have a Core 2 Duo processor. Can you please contact us at support@owc.com or 800-275-4576 with the serial number of your iMac so we can help you further?
Awesome! Yes you should not have any issues with installing a bigger drive in your machine. We would strongly recommend that you reach out to us vide phone or email for further assistance. support@macsales.com or (800)275-4576

Hi HarpingOn! I know what you mean! Well, at least the screws don't get lost! 🙃 Thanks for being an OWC customer!

Why is this being updated?
If you upgrade it with ssd drive the temperature sensor goes on the same position on the ssd?
Thanks.
MacSales. com Thanks for the reply I will let you know as soon as I install it.
What is the maximum SSD / HDD size? my iMac did not recognize anything bigger than 512GB. Can I put larger drives in?

Yes. The SATA 3 drive will operate at SATA 2 speeds.
