Afford it? ... You think these companies want you to OWN things? Please.... you'll rent it over the course of your life so the cost will be spread out over 60-80 years. They want EVERYTHING to be a subscription because that's basically eliminating property without running afoul of the Constitution. Its how you profit forever without actually having to give people the leverage of owning an asset, no matter how small that asset is (from a vintage rug to a mega-mansion, everything that isnt consumed when it's used is an asset; which can either appreciate or depreciate). yeah same, playing a cool vr game is just something you can't do in real life, all the other things are better in real life anyway. Real life will always be better
The virtual cinema aspect would be very cool as well. Generate a giant screen right in your living room. But apparently Netflix and other apps won't be available on it. Plus it's wayyyyyy too expensive. For 500 bucks I'd be interested. 3500? That's the price of a 2nd hand car.
But it clearly isn't design for gaming. The giant curved glass panel in the front is too heavy and fragile, so it's definitely not suitable for fast, rapid movement. And the battery life is horrible, especially when you run a whole VR game on it. The Meta or Valve index is so much better for such task.
I've heard of the concept that if you convince people that the future is this product, platform, medium, then it is significantly more likely that it will succeed and actually become the future. Like a self-fulfilling prophecy. With Apple's headset - and all VR products for that matter - I sincerely hope that our society will choose to say "naah, this is bullshit", despite the entire wave of "propaganda" that will be telling us: here is the future, buy it now.
The good thing with VR gaming though at least you know that is just a game they're not trying to replace a reality they're just give me a different way to play your favorite video games.
The worst part is cameras monitoring your eye movement to keep track of where your focus is on the screen. Its like reading ur thoughts. If ur looking somewhere inappropriate it will know. Talk about zero privacy. Complete horror.
Stop blaming yourself, Its not everything wrong with society its everything wrong with g0vernments and the m3 dia. theyre the one pushing the madness !
That's how you imagine it to be. In practice I have testified to the opposite, with people who were alone finding special interactions they were lacking, being able to work through their fears and disabilities, with positive impact in their irl interactions.
Was out at the mall the other week. There was a group of kids sitting in a circle by the entrance of store. Every single one of them was looking down, on their phones, endlessly scrolling. Not a single word being said to each other as I passed them. Can you even fathom THIS technology 10 years in the future? Those kids in the circle won’t even be there. Why would you ever step outside the house if you can put on your headset and “hang out” with your friends together on a digital frontier?
We can just hope parents are not dumb and put up with age restrictions over these devices- eventually its the adults at fault who are providing and failing to regulate the usage- failure of one parent leads to immense fomo for other kids to be influenced and force parents who actually regulate to get them these gadgets.
@mr.magoo2238 The first handheld phone was larger than a brick and costed almost $4,000, and yet look where we are now. It's not delusional to think the same thing will happen with these goggles.
You already can, that is why “fear” over these kind of goggles is over hyped. The addiction to phones is mental. It isn’t anything to do with visual immersion. The visual portion is completely unnecessary for the “hook.” And is why it will essentially be a flop. I actually don’t think these goggles will be around in 5-10yrs. Especially if price doesn’t come down significantly. And seeing Apple’s appetite for premium pricing, that isn’t very likely.

George Orewell's book is filled with a lot flaws. I wouldn't particularly take it as a manuscript as much as it is a view/symptom of what could potentially happen. @@mr.magoo2238 Did you watch the video? The main point as to why it didn't take off is, like you're saying, that VR headsets have been here for many years. However, Moon said in the video that it's because these VR realities are mainly for gaming - a huge breaking point. As mentioned in the video, when virtual reality becomes practically useful, it will go global. There are many things that could be done easily. Why do you claim it's been here for so long? VR headsets only started to become somewhat usable in 2014. If this is what we have in 2024, I believe that by 2050, VR headsets could achieve the vision set by Apple.
I am going to be brutally sincere. While I am majoring in Computer Science, I realized Instant Gratification is slowly decimating our human potential. I have been constructing side projects that will improve the education system for the United States. However, after watching this, I have to be cautious to my commitments.
I actually worked for a startup that's changing US educational system for the better, that was hell of a ride. However, I struggle to remember anything about instant gratification that was/still is in the software. I think it's safe to assume that if an educational app is giving you instant gratification, it's a project manager's/CTO's fault, these kinds of apps should never have those bells and whistles people love to spend time on in TikTok etc. I see no reason to be cautious here, other than the obvious “write sane and readable code, make comments, optimize DB queries etc, otherwise it's gonna bite”

Common bruh y’all got to think logically and realize this isn’t good if you expand it long enough
Trust me, as an avid dreamer this is nothing. Dreams are years ahead of vr still in graphics, haptics and even immersiveness. I think dreams might even be the future of vr technology
I think the merging of dreams, neurotech and AR is certainly going to happen. Eventually you'll be able to record your dreams, relive them and modify them. The possibilities are endless.
They seem to be moving away from that, into ads that blend in more seamlessly into the landscape you are in. Of course it will be up to individual apps how well or how poorly they do it.
You forgot the most important thing: Vision Pro doesn't have any controller, instead you only need to use your bare hands, fingers, eyes and head movement to interact with the device. This removes a lot of barriers between the virtual and reality, it literally looks like magic. I think this is the main feature that will get spatial computing to the mainstream in the future.

Microsft did this YEARS AGO with HoloLens 1 & 2. What makes the Vision Pro scary is Apple's family of devices, constant data collection, and lack of data transparency. We need policies for digital rights and data ownership.
I hit my big toe on the corner of the dining table this morning and hee-hee'd like Michael Jackson. I don't know what that has too do with the video but I needed to share this information.
@1:19 "Non of them are main stream at the moment" Neither will Vision pro ever be mainstream, because its 3,500 and made by apple..... Might be problematic for something like the quest 3 where its 7x less the cost and made by zuck. But vision pro will be a pure luxury novalty for the time being (Mainly used for Tesla owners to watch porn while their "FSD" runs over pedestrians). The only way i would pay 3.5k on a VR system is if its a full PCVR kit loaded with base stations and body trackers.
I've always been a tech guy, but from a point of view of how tech can improve your life and make things easier, but now the innovation in tech just seem malicious, like they intend to now get you hooked, angry, addicted and literally alter you brain chemistry ... Society gone off a cliff as a result, just don't know if there is a way back from here ...
I use VR as entertainment. Despite the many clickbait thumbnails I've been lured into clicking on predicting doom and gloom, I have yet to see any dystopias in VR. It's basically a personal interactive amusement park. I find flying around in the XPlane flight simulator quite relaxing and I certainly don't live in the device. Your mileage may vary.
I watched this whole video until "You'll never be able to fall in love.". If it mimics your facial movements, eyes, etc, and it's your PERSONALITY........you can very much fall in love in the AR or VR world. I'll still always be a subscriber and member, lol
William Gibson wrote Neuromancer before Neal Stephenson wrote Snow Crash.. Neuromancer is considered the first of its kind so I would argue that book "predicted" the metaverse versus Snow Crash.
Yeah, right. The impact would be SO PROFOUND, because literally everyone has the urge and the ability to spend 3500+ USD on yet another VR headset for watching videos on a toilet
the title honestly understates how devastating the apple vision pro could be. im glad i will forget about it in a few days and wont ever remember to buy it.
So now big companies let make people collect information (audio, video, location, etc…) about everything and everyone. This is synced in the cloud on their servers. What are they doing with all this information? When people joined social media, they shared their data. But with the Vision pro, they also share the data and activity from all other people they see. How more people wear this Vision Pro, how less privacy we have. This is the opposite of what Apple tells us: The importance of privacy. Why isn’t this talked more about? All vision pro owners who wear it in public are filming everyone.
I agree with lots of the points here, but it took me a few videos from this channel to realize that there’s quite some pessimistic and fear mongering vibes in these videos. Cars, internet, phones etc have changed humanity but not in a dystopian way. It’ll be a while before most people can afford one of these too
Fear, uncertainty and doubt (often shortened to FUD) is a manipulative propaganda tactic used in sales, marketing, public relations, politics, polling and cults. FUD is generally a strategy to influence perception by disseminating negative and dubious or false information, and is a manifestation of the appeal to fear.
I threw my last TV away 24 years ago which was for time spent with my girlfriend and the place we lived which we considered paradise. That being said the unintended consequence have been eye opening and now at age 54 with my own cottage on a lake in the woods of New Hampshire I'm furnishing it with housewares from the 80s with the only circuit board being the smoke detection, carbon monoxide detection and this phone which is a tool to help fix whatever I need but really it's the other people that share their knowledge who helped me get here so thankyou. Oh yeah, my LED bulbs have circuit boards but they're easy to fix and won't spy, yet. (Insert Dr Evil laugh) Thanks Moon
Typing that from a smartphone always connected to the internet with geolocation, Google search history, etc, et. But you only have 1 circuit board. Congrats
The movie Ready Player One comes to mind whenever I look up more on this device. Fun Fact. The movie was based on a book that was also required reading by every employee at facebooks meta. It may seem like a failure at launch, but Metas' long-term goal is to completely monopolize the space altogether. The transhumanist and futurist agenda is very real. This device is further proof of them slowly merging man with machine. The device went from being in your pocket to facial goggles. What happens in the very near future when people start installing cyberware like in the game cyberpunk. This device is only going to drift humanity further away from our actual purpose here on earth. The lines are getting more and more blurry by the day.
""Allows you to stay in augmented reality for hours at a time, if not days." Having over half a kilo of plastic strapped to your face for long periods of time isn't going to appeal to most people, especially at $3500. On top of that, you need a chunky 350g battery for the thing in your pocket or in a bag, and even then it only lasts 2 hours. Apple's brand isn't innovation, it's ergonomics and a premium look and feel. The Vision Pro already feels antiquated.
That would be a significant cultural shift for society to accept people wearing cameras, microphones and who knows what other sensors 24/7. I think mostly due to the fact that someone recording makes people self-correct due to various anxieties people experience. So, even now after more than 10 years of smartphones, people are still quite opposed to other people filming them without explicit consent. That's why Google's AR glasses failed. And finally - for the VR use itself - there's not much value proposition in private life for now. Sure, professionally they are amazing tools and could be great for education but that's about it as far as I can see for now.
The price isn't the issue. The issue is that it: 1/ undoes the 30 minutes of work women put into their hair 2/ hides the top part of their face, which is their favourite 3/ prevent them from making egocentric social media posts (selfies etc) Those 3 things alone makes it the stupidest product in the world. Search "Apple vision pro review" here on youtube, noticing something? No women... Helmets will NEVER work for women.
I think the potential isolation and manipulation factors is why the AVP was designed to keep you in your environment - it can help ground you in what is real, so it doesn’t serve as a replacement. As for avatars, I think Apple’s taken the proper approach by only allowing your avatar to be based on your real appearance. I’ll never really like the idea of a digital photorealistic version of myself, but at least I can’t pretend to be some perfect version of me like I could on a platform that allows greater customization.
you mean like the filters people already use in abundance on social media? how will those not be snapped up by users of this new product? It'll surely be one of the most standard apps available to users.
This is going to make dopamine addiction and attention levels even worse than they are now. Will lead to worse social anxiety and depression. I feel bad for kids growing up right now. Owning nothing will be normal to them. Everything will be a monthly subscription.
I live in a tropical country so I think this might not blow up here because wearing one will make your face hot. Its already uncomfortable to wear headphones even glasses. Imagine wearing that 😆
I've watched fog form on the lakes I live on roll in and destroy my all in one jump starter pack that has an inverter, charging ports and an air compressor that'll shut off at the pressure you set. I can't imagine the oceanside island I lived on before and the salt air ruining electronics.
That's because his entire channel is about how everything is evil, corrupt, destined for ruin and misery etc. I'm sure he doesn't even believe all of this himself, but it's profitable for him to spread fear, paranoia and a sense of dread. He uploads new videos all the time and every time he has to top his previous apocalyptic dooms-day theories about how every single technological invention is evil. If he lived in the 19th century he would say the same things about radio.
It’s a novelty and nothing else. It’s impractical and doesn’t do anything groundbreaking. It runs apps just like a phone does. 3D tv didn’t take off because people didn’t want to wear glasses. VR has stalled as people don’t want to use clunky headsets. This is no different. Wearing one of these in public will make you stand out for all the wrong reasons.
You can get a decent gaming PC for $2k AND an HTC Vive with all the doodads for another $1500. You can have a sweet, sweet VR set up for the same price. There's a few people out there who have tried using VR in the real world - like using the headset as a daily driver. It's awkward - it doesn't work. Why? Because you feel like everyone is staring at you. AND THEY ARE! You can't use it while driving - like a phone. It's not compact - like a phone. You can't throw it in your pocket like a phone. You need to be sitting down or in a calm environment to use it - unlike a phone that you can whip out at any moment.
yh and what abt the battery and all that? what abt someone stealing it when youre in public and cant see whats happening behind you? also what about the economy, many people cant even afford food or housing too well and Moon thinks all of a sudden every second person will have a +3000$ ugly skiing goggles on them at all times when VR hasnt even taken off to this point even when the graphics are pretty decent
It is meant to be a home device like a desktop that you can use anywhere. It is way too expensive for me but even the media consumption on this with the spatial audio would be about $2000+ with a regular big screen TV with a suitable sound system. It also acts as a computer and has a beefy chip inside. I don't think these devices are more addicting than the tech we have now. All in moderation. I have a Meta Quest 3 and find it much less addicting than traditional tech. I actually like that I need a break after an hour or two.
I really appreciate Moon's content. Though he often says things that I don't entirely agree with, I think that the content is genuinely really good, and covers things that aren't covered very often. I also think that it's good to get a view from other's perspectives, even when they don't perfectly align with your won. Anyways, Thank you Moon, and keep up the good work!

Yeah and it still isn't a household name at all.
Your point?
Thats not the purpose of this headset though...
Afford it?
Why attack the concept property? Simple, _slaves don't own property._ Now, slavery is illegal, but you can achieve the same effect by making everyone dependent on you (or you + your friends' companies + gov't) for every aspect of their life. Same old Confederate end-goal... they just call themselves "Democrats" and "Progressives" now.

Having over half a kilo of plastic strapped to your face for long periods of time isn't going to appeal to most people, especially at $3500.

We won’t become addicted to this quite yet. It’s too expensive. Once manufacturing comes down with ai and material cost it’ll be a slam dunk for Apple
The price isn't the issue. The issue is that it:
1/ undoes the 30 minutes of work women put into their hair

You need to be sitting down or in a calm environment to use it - unlike a phone that you can whip out at any moment.
yh and what abt the battery and all that? what abt someone stealing it when youre in public and cant see whats happening behind you? also what about the economy, many people cant even afford food or housing too well and Moon thinks all of a sudden every second person will have a +3000$ ugly skiing goggles on them at all times when VR hasnt even taken off to this point even when the graphics are pretty decent
you sound like every single person about any new technology. its crazy how this weird shortsightedness comes around every decade
Is this a re upload? I swear you did a video on this already ???
Apple has released chunky glasses: WE ARE ALL DOOMED, RUN!!!!
hard to get addicted to something thats so expensive olny 1% of people will own one. not to mention how foolish it would look to wear one in public.
Wow. What a nightmare society we are becomming.
Always have been. Technology just showed us who we are for real.
damn, buying a quest 1 or 2 was like buying a playstation 1 in terms of VR lol excited to see how powerful VR/AR gets in 2030.
I just hope this doesn't have any ads; aside from that; they can't force people to wear them.
Loneliness levels will go further up
I really appreciate Moon's content. Though he often says things that I don't entirely agree with, I think that the content is genuinely really good, and covers things that aren't covered very often. I also think that it's good to get a view from other's perspectives, even when they don't perfectly align with your won. Anyways, Thank you Moon, and keep up the good work!
Agreed
Tbh after the last video I watched i am considering unsubscribing. I feel like it isn't sincere.
@@MrJC1last one i watched was the “wonka” video, where he badmouths a genuinely fun and lighthearted movie, one he probably hasn’t even watched. Also, many of the comments are saying the video was plagiarized.
@@shhinysilver1720 not seen that one yet. Might look for it now.
I like the content but sometimes I think it’s way too alarmist. Especially when is addressing new technologies.
"And because it's Apple., it will be terrifying"
truer words have never been spoken
Moon is ALWAYS complaining, the quality editing brings me back tho😂
Seriously what a ridiculous take, jesus he is streeeeeeeetching for content. Also he didn't do any research. He clearly has never played VR on any device. It exactly the same as a PC or a TV and console. It just helps passing the time. The people who sit on the couch all day and watch TV are the ones who will fall into a virtual world. Society will not change, the tech just gets better. We will always have a portion of humanity who chooses their addiction in the form of media consumption.
I personally went free diving, in the real ocean, this morning and played VR for 2 hours after I got home. But I guess I'm just a VR zombie.
@@toknowwhyuneed3593you have kids?
he's just playing the algorithm. it's no secret that negative videos get way more views. it's literally more profitable to just be negative about everything than the other way around.
@@adidab14 He should make a video about himself then, like how the algorithm is changing his views and opinions.
What if "you need a break from your phone" will turn into "you need a break from your headset"..
The world has changed so much since 2019 that it's almost a new era which makes you appreciate even more to be alive to see all this.
Side effects for VR are:
Blurry eyes, headache, epilepsy, dizziness, disorientation, near sightedness. Nobody wants to use VR for more than a couple minutes a day. 😂
Some substance to your concerns, but mainly a click bait advert for most people... Never owned an Apple product and never will.
“You will live to see man made horrors beyond your comprehension,” Nikola Tesla.
Ted was so right. He is vindicated with each nightmare we go into.
Exactly!
Proud to say I've never bought anything Apple!!!
Same here!!!
Bet you can't say you've never ever used one at some point
i got my lil cheapo phone it cool.
Wow you guys are so edgy!
And you think android isn’t doing the same thing Apple is doing?
