Alloutte helicopter originally was used for the light observation and light utility helicopter duty. During the early Nuri helicopters' operation in 1968-1971 (Nuri helicopters were purchased by the Malaysian government in 1967 after the administration of President US Lydon B. Johnson agreed to supply helicopters to Malaysia in the favour of Tunku Abdul Rahman support for the US efforts in Vietnam War) many of Nuri helicopters' were shot by the communist guerillas. The communist guerillas typically used Type 56 (Chinese copied version AK-47), M2 carbine rifles, and RPD. They also used M-79 grenade launchers and RPG-2. The early Nuri helicopters at that time did not have bullet proof protection at the fuselage because they were actually converted from the civilian transport helicopter to the military transport helicopter. So some of Nuri helicopters were shot and hit the pilot as well. So the strategists in RMAF and Army came up with the gunship ideas. At that time Malaysia didn't have any gunship helicopters. What they decided was to convert some of Alloutte helicopters to be equipped with the 20 millimeters German made automatic cannon and placed it at the passengers seat because the size of automatic cannon is pretty big actually. In addition, some Nuri helicopters were equipped with the machine gunners. Typically they used the M60, FN MAG 50 or HK21 at the door. Usually manned by the special force personnel not by the air quarter master.

You have to see MCP in different period. They are heroes against Japanese army which was admitted by the British. Many Malays are allies of Japanese army during WW2, a fact not written in our history textbooks. After WW2, MCP was made illegal by the British due to the different political ideology. Nevertheless the majority Chinese was against MCP, my father served as a home guard during the emergency period. Your statement of many Chinese think MCP and Chin Peng is hero is untrue. But I admit they are Malaysia Chinese with the china gum nickname are disloyal to Malaysia. They are spreading anti-malaysia and pro-communist propaganda all over internet. Thankyou Captain along with all the veterans who served. My Father served in the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm as an Armourer during the Conflict between 1962-65 and was stationed on Borneo at Tawau. One of his jobs was on gunboats around the rivers of Sabah. For years after the Malaysian Government wanted to issue British servicemen with a Medal but British governments refused to allow it until around 2015 when my father received his Borneo compaign medal. Malaysia and Borneo in Particular were his favourite places to visit during his service of 12yrs of service. I took my family to Borneo in 2014 and we will always remember the country and it's people fondly. Thankyou again Captain and all the best wishes to you from England.
@AdrianSams Did he ever mention the use of shotguns in the war to you? I understand that the locals were armed with shotguns, but it appears that regular British soldiers did not use many shotguns.

In my opinion, this man was doing the same thing that the Japanese were doing in Malaysia in 1941-1945 - genocide of the Chinese and communists. But for some reason this person is considered a hero and not a villain. Maybe because Malaysia remains an autocracy, pursuing a policy of segregation and discrimination against national minorities, just as they did in semi-Nazi South Africa.
Thanks for your service against the communist which believes in equal rights amongst all the people as well as one of the more significant forces in the fight for independence we sure could use some of that over here in the east, now not only do people like you can enjoy being a second class citizen, worse still us over at East Malaysia also have to carry the burden of having Communism completely banned in Malaysia despite not being part of it when it happened. Now don't forget to give the fruit of your own labor to your boss despite them not deserving any of it because that is the system that you are protecting.
Thank you for fighting the communists, they believed in equal rights. Communists would have destroyed Islam in Malaysia and Chinese and Indians wouldn't be second class citizens. However, due to your hard work your descendants are now the second class citizens in Malaysia. Thank you very much.
