MY WORST VEHICLE PURCHASE EVER!

- I think we all have that one vehicle story that we wished we hadn't bought. Well this is mine. I have been saving this one for a while. Now that our dreaded Toterhome RV we named 8 Ball is sold and on to better things with it's new owner, we can finally release the epic story of our journey. This all started in January of 2023 when I decide that our perfectly working toterhome just wasn't up to snuff that we just bought months prior so I drove all the way to Ohio in a snowstorm to pick up this gem of a unit. Shortly after the purchase everything went downhill from there as I hit a pothole in Nashville that sent the Sport Deck Toterhome airborne which upon landing broke the fan and shroud. I made the repairs quickly before 2 days later driving it from Alabama to California and back over 4000 miles. I had cold start issues and the dip stick on the Cat C7 decided to shoot out on the way. This should have been my first clue of what was in my future. Then a quick trip to Oklahoma and back and around midnight rolling through Memphis on I55 when the engine decided to blow. I purchased a used engine for $10,000 and swapped it in over a hot weekend in Memphis at Spyder Offroad. Then on the way home the transmission decided to go into limp mode and all neutrals after stopping for dinner. So I got it towed to a near bye shop that rebuilt it for me. A week later I picked it up and after about an hour of my 2 hour drive home the radiator hose started to leak enough to make the engine overheat. So I rigged it up with some duct tape and hose clamps before limping home. Here it sat for around 7 months where I made repairs before someone bought it. This is the reason I will never own another toterhome.
Big Thanks to Ethan for coming to help me do the engine swap and Clyde at Spyder Offroad for letting it sit at his shop for months and letting me do the swap there.

HERE IS THE NEW UNIT! ruclips.net/video/RbKPHnSRcv0/видео.html
Matt if you wanna do more blog style content i support it! Behind the scenes of the BK crew would be cool
I’ve been meaning to do more of this especially at the shop. A weekly update would be good over on the shop channel.
That’s what I’ve been telling him!
Let’s see the video on the new rig!,
Might just do that. Gonna start doing a few blog style vids like this to mix in.
You've definitely had more than your fair share of bad luck road trips. Hopefully the new unit treats you better. Let's see what you got. Good luck man.
So far so good. Maybe this one will be a keeper.
I feel your frustration. What a beating. Yes I want to see the knew one.
Here is the new rig- ruclips.net/video/RbKPHnSRcv0/видео.html
I hear your pain man. I had a toter with a C7 and that was an absolutely horrible engine. I will never own another Cat because of it.
Yeah I figured it would be like the 3126 but it was not. Once they started emissions stuff they went to crap. Probably why they quit making street engines.
Cool video Matt. I like these type of videos. Sorry about your luck. The next guy is probably going to have years of no issues thanks to you 😂.
Thanks man. This was too good of a story not to tell. I hope the next guy loves it. 👍
Definitely want to see what you got after the disaster that was your toter home. I’m sorry you had to go through all that. You have the patience of a saint and thankfully a decent bank account it appears. I was thinking you just about rebuilt the whole thing you might as well keep the thing. I understand completely why you sold it though. Good luck with this next hauler. I really felt bad for you bro. I would have lost it by the time the engine blew.
I guess I have more patience than I think. Glad everyone enjoyed the crap show that this story was. Video on the new unit should be done soon as we just finished our first trip in it.
Potholes are the worst! I live in PA and their are some potholes that I swear could sink a car or truck! I love seeing behind the scenes that everyone goes through travel nightmares lol stay safe out their
I travel a ton. I tend to only post the negative stuff so most people think I break down all of the time but I actually have pretty good luck for the most part
@BustedKnuckleVideo you've been to so many great places! Do you have a favorite place that you enjoy the most? But I'm sure there all great to be at
As far as riding goes I really like Sand Hollow Utah when it's not super hot.
@BustedKnuckleVideo Utah is beautiful and yes when riding is alot better when it's not so hot but that's what mud holes and water is far lol
Dang bubba !! I thought I was the only unlucky soul to make purchases like that !! Sucks for your luck.
It happens. Only lost about 20k on the deal. But hey maybe this will go viral and make up for it. 😅
In the 10 years of trucking I did before working for y’all, Shaterpillar engines and Intercraptoinal left me stranded the most. Cummins made it 90% of the time.
Yeah it's just hard to find anything like this with a cummins. I think the CAT stuff just went downhill once they had to add emissions.
Live and learn they say. waiting for the new update vid.
Here is is- ruclips.net/video/RbKPHnSRcv0/видео.html
Ouch!..my brother has one like that and drove into a hole he didnt see ..anyway it landed on the trans and split the bellhousing in half..11k later its 👌
Yikes! 😬 I wish this one only cost me $11k to fix….🤦♂️
Man that sucks glad you finally got rid of it
It’s probably doing great for the new owner. We just didn’t get along 😂
Should get a Peterbilt or Kenworth with a beautiful C15!!!!!!
I’m done with big trucks. They ain’t for me. 😂
@@BustedKnuckleVideo I found I can stay in some pretty nice hotels for the cost of running a large truck. There's also some nice haulers with living quarters.
@@secret5. toters in the past have saved me money and helped me eat healthier when on the road.
@@BustedKnuckleVideo It is handy to have a kitchen. Interested in seeing the new setup.
After hearing that sad story, I thought I had better get me a rock bouncer on order to help Busted Knuckle Off Road out.
We appreciate the support. It’s all good. Stuff happens and we find a way to make it work.
Holy Shit you can't make this stuff up feel bad for ya.sounds like it's getting better I know I have had things snowball like that damm!!!
Yeah it sucked but it things happen like that. You can let it beat you or you can just make the best out of it. Now I just need this video to go viral so I can makeup for the loss. 😂
lol I recognized those Visone graphics in the background when you picked up the new engine.
Yep they are my go to for Rv parts
@@BustedKnuckleVideo yeah they have great stuff. We did the graphics for them at GCI a few years ago.
Yeah I wouldn't mind checking it out if you're willing to do video On it
Coming soon. I flew out to Colorado to get it. 🤘
Good vid good story but man I had to stop watching Cletus because I was sick of that song😅
It just fit so well and I stumbled upon it on epidemic sound so I had to use it. 😂 don’t worry I won’t be using it on every single video
Epidemic is right 😂
Not that I regret buying it, but my 2018 Georgetown had 5,000 miles on it and still had the original packaging stickers on everything. Made it 3,500 miles and the trash Colorado roads, and a bus sized pot hole killed the frontend and tires costing 9k in repairs.
Yikes. Dang TN DOT shoulda paid for the repairs on mine
Wow I hate to hear stories like this; it's everyone's worst nightmare with making big purchases. You seem to take it in stride but what a horrible thing to go thru.
It was less than ideal, it’s not the crap that happens that makes you it’s the way you handle and overcome them.
every time my wife and i go to california it snows it even snowed the last time we went to vegas lol
The crazy weather seems to follow me 😜
Hahaha what a trip, anyhow, for future reference, don't buy anything with a cat c7,it's a throw away engine, has huge fuel system issues if oil isn't changed regularly.
Yeah hard lesson learned for sure.
That's why we call them freight shacker lol
yeah, I learned a lot on this one
glad your out of it
You and me both. The new unit is sooo much better. 👍
I learned the hard way that you always keep a jug of diesel treat in with your tools...if not your fuel can gel, and then you're fuqt!
Yeah I typically always ran some treatment in my fuel. Not that is did me any good....
I’ll pass on the totter homes yesh ! Yeah let’s see what you got
Yeah never again for me, I’ll edit something together on the new unit.
The wife and myself live in cottonwood Arizona about 10 miles from Sedona and we are originally from north Alabama close to Birmingham….more specifically the Jasper al area and we always stop at the big Texan ….best steak in the country
Small World! We live in Cullman on Smith Lake. I used to live on the Jasper side.
@@BustedKnuckleVideo i remember we used to see y’all’s trailer over close to downtown at that little house by the 4 way stop ……either way the wife and i videos man keep up the awesome work and if your ever out sedona way again let us know ….we know of tons of off road places only locals know
@@BustedKnuckleVideo if you guys ever need any camera work out west this way or editing work done let me know i would love to work on some of y’all’s stuff
I would like to see the new R.V.
I’ll throw something together to post soon
Bought a Fleetwood Bounder for 7500. Ended up putting another 8500 into it. Then sold it for 5000. Will never own anther motorhome.
yeah they can go downhill fast
I'm sorry but I have changed the motor in a John Deere 230 clc "processor" "mechanical harvester" in the woods on the side of a logging road in under 48 hour's. You guy's should have had that motor swapped in a day. I mean no disrespect. But motor swapping is fairly straight forward
Well I’m not a professional mechanic, the guy helping me was. It was 100 degrees in memphis, and we spent a half day Friday, all Saturday, and most of Sunday getting it done. If we had put the flywheel on the engine before we put it in it would have saved us a few hours of work….😂
That is what us truckers call the load, or trip from hell. There is also a thing called a bad luck truck.
It was a Bad Luck Truck for sure!
when it rains it pours
Facts. This rig just didn’t like me. 😂
Please swicth to lt tires light truck tires they are tested and approved to much higher specs. Just get least aggressive tread you can find. You wouldn't put trailer tires on your truck sooooo
Been there done that. They can’t handle the weight on our trailer. So we went to 14 ply with good results.
Why would you ever put light truck tires on a truck that never came with light truck tires?
@@precisiondiesel225 he is talking about the trailer not the truck.
What’s the next towing/camper setup?
video on that coming soon.
I SHOULD HAVE NEVER BOUGHT THIS......What Vehicle do you feel the same way about?
2018 F150 Ecoboost, sold it two years later, waste of money.
@@secret5. really? I’ve heard good things about them. I’d like to have one of the explorer ST with eco boost
@@BustedKnuckleVideo Engine wasn't bad, but the 10sp didn't like the cold temps up North and after 30k miles it started getting a lot of squeaks and the front end feeling loose. I think my biggest issue was it felt very boring. Didn't feel like driving a truck, just a large sloppy car. Guess it's all what you want.
@@secret5. interesting, maybe the second gen eco boost can be rowdy with some mods 😬
@@BustedKnuckleVideo I could see the 2.7 in the explorer being a lot of fun. It's got a lot of torque and no lag.
Hell you need to keep it now its new lol
Not after the hell it has given me!
nice lol i work at a big tex
They are my go to for parts when on the road
Congrats on not getting shot or stabbed in Memphis!
I figured the side of the interstate was the safest place. Best believe me and the wife stay strapped so we aren't too worried about where we break down.
@@BustedKnuckleVideo Stay strapped or get clapped is the way of the world now brother!
Facts
Not me (blessedly), but back in the '80s my parents had a Ford Tempo that was beyond the shadow of any doubt the single most worthless piece of automotive donkey $h!t in the history of ANYTHING.
I can only imagine.
Your first mistake was buying a freightliner. Your second mistake was buying a freightliner with a cat in it. They’re absolute junk from 04 on up.
The white toter was a 3126 CAT and 6 speed Allison. Never should have sold it….
I disagree but obviously someone wanted to sell the truck
@@krisgill1286 what do you disagree about?
Cat best motor ever made when you get up with the big boys
@@pete1735 and delete all the BS 👀
C7’s are the worst and Allison 545 aren’t much better.
Yeah horrible combo 😂
Can it go offroading though?
It’s been off some roads
@@BustedKnuckleVideo yeah
I hate those electronic engines and transmissions.
All Junk.
Let’s see the replacement now that we have the toterhome story
That video will be coming soon! Just went on our first successful wheeling trip with it.
8:55
The Pizza was sooo good!
Cummins swap it with the engine and trans out of a bus.
Might have been cheaper
Then it would have been worst than what he had Cummins suck
Opinions are like assholes.
Toter homes are cool until your realize medium duty trucks are crap.
This one sure gave me a lot of crap 😂
Ahhh buddy. Been there done that. It sucks bad. Makes for funny story's layer though.
Yeah it was too good of a story to not tell
Matt you must have a money tree in your back yard....or you're just a rich F'er
If I was rich you wouldn’t see me out there doing the engine swap myself 😂
move the camera away from your face
It’s vertical video that I zoomed in on. I never planned on this story being this good. 🤷♂️
Gay
you must be on the wrong channel
How many miles were on that original engine?
Less than 100k supposedly. But the gauges had been swapped so who knows.
