Can you explain the purpose/benefit of dropping to a "hurdler's position" when doing this throw? I come from wrestling where you are typically taught to drop to your knees for a fireman's carry/kata garuma (I know judo also uses this version). Thank you!
If you go in a more side ways direction, because your opponents balance is going that way, sticking the leg out helps "trap" your opponents leg and because of the control when wearing a gi, you can go sideways...sort of becomes a hybrid between Kata Guruma and Yoko Otoshi. If your opponents weight is forwards, then drop onto both knees as you describe.
