CBBC Saturday Show Cockup - 27 July 2002

- To mark my 100th subscriber, a new CBBC video.
This was a transmission problem which happened during CBBC's The Saturday Show (not to be confused with the recent Channel 5 show or the ITV 80s programme) on Saturday 27th July 2002, when the programme (usually on BBC1) had to decamp to BBC2 in order for BBC1 to show coverage of the Manchester Commonwealth Games.
Hosts Dani Behr and Joe Mace were in the middle of a (pre-recorded) sketch parodying the Men In Black films (to promote the MIB cartoon series they were broadcasting) where Joe was outed as a shape-changing alien and was promptly dispatched by Behr using a shape-changing alien blaster provided to her by Tiny the hamster (who, along with Mr Duck, were the two regular characters on the show, and would get their own CBBC series later). (Personally, it looks like they've borrowed the blaster from some prop moon-buggy they had knocking around in the BBC props store!)
However, just as Mace gets turned into a dog, the picture unexpectedly glitches and dies, leaving an unnatural length of black screen and a quick-acting Dan Austin to fill in with the CBBC apology caption, a few pieces of suitable fill-in music and eventually, when they discover the problem's more worse than they originally thought, a stand-by episode of Kenan & Kel.
We don''t stay with the comedy stylings of Thompson & Mitchell for long, though, as BBC2 returns with a relieved Austin informing us that we can now rejoin a rehumanised Mace, who leads us into the South Korean cartoon Cubix.
The breakdown music has been edited down to save time and RUclips copyright claims, and also apologies for the tape glitch before the first breakdown announcement, as I was recording the show in LP mode and had to switch to SP mode in order to get a good image of the CBBC apology caption. Hopefully, I'll be able to include the preceding sketch in a future upload.

Imagine being a Kenan and Kel fan and randomly watching CBBC only to think that you are lucky to watch an extra Kenan and Kel episode only for them to switch it back to The Saturday Show in the middle of the episode.

No its not aliens. The voice glitch was occured by Tape Damage.
I wish I was born sooner than 2000 so I could experience watching Disney and Nickelodeon shows for free on BBC 1 and 2. I had to watch them on their actual channels using a illegal cable box which would freeze frequently and stop working after a year at most 😂
i mean I remember CITV and Channel 5 having a lot of Disney/Nick stuff back in the day and I was born in 2003

CBBC was common for having breakdowns one happened during Dick and Dom in da Bungalow at this time the show was only on the CBBC Channel while BBC1 was broadcasting The Saturday Show now in early days of Dick and Dom in da Bungalow it was normally repeated between 1pm until 4pm but one morning the fire alarm was set off and the whole studio had to be evacuated but they couldn't return to the studio so to fill the time up it was stand by cartoons then that afternoon stand by programmes

The fire alarm thing also happened in a later series when they were on BBC One. a) because I remember it b) I once read the digitalspy forum thread on it. Also it was also the time CBBC used to be thrown about all over the place, I remember every year they had that stupid 'Lords Mayor of London parade' or whatever it is (the one where the second mayor with no responsibilities assumes the role) and they'd either end D&D early, shove it over to BBC Two for the last 15 minutes or once made the ending on CBBC channel only. Imagine watching the entire thing for the finale only for the show to go to a digital channel you didn't have (not that was my problem but I imagine it annoyed a lot of kids).
@@robthemodYT CBBC has or had been not so good since it changed during the 1990's BBC Scotland had their own version just adding the Scotland name to the logo BBC Alba had it's own strand too known as CBBC Alba

As mentioned in the description, that was a glitch in the recording when I switched the VCR from LP mode to SP mode (I was recording manually) in order be able to get a better image of the CBBC apology caption. I unfortunately did it just as announcer Dan Austin started talking, hence the garbled start!

@@andyewing4143 no but they all have different announcers (well in Scotland on BBC 2 it’s the same as England as BBC 2 Scotland closed down in 2019)

from 1998-2004 Kenan and Kel would be shown on CBBC
The days I remember seeing Kenan and Kel was Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays during Up for it(Up for it was a Scottish show it aired for 3 weeks of the Scottish school summer holidays) the I think I seen it again before Christmas that's times I remember seeing it on CBBC
