- Mega Man 1: Man, it's great. The scoring system; the baddies in the Robot Master hallways; the pause function. It's a unique Mega Man game.
Mega Man 1 is also hardcore. Aside from the normal Mega Man trickyness, you also have a lack of Energy Tanks, no invincibility to spikes, far looser play control than any other MM game, random energy drops are very rare, oh, and there is no password system. Plus, there is an optional item that if you happen to miss and then go to Dr. Wily's castle without it, you can't beat the game.
In its day, this game set records in graphics, play control, uniqueness, and all-around quality, setting it apart from the other titles around, and in a lot of ways it's set apart from all the other NES MM titles.

i remember the first time i played this i couldnt beat any bosses, but i thought it was so cool you could pick your own stage

The Energy tanks are verry usefull even in quick man's fight even Flash stopper makes it easyer if you manage to save it for quick man

I have an app which let's you to play nes games, one of them is mega man 1, 2, 3, and 4 I believe, its very cool to play the game, I have many versions of the same

When I was a kid, I only could beat Cutman. As an adult, I can't beat the Dr. Wily stage, ha. As long as I haven't beaten this game, a part of my life is still unfinished...

Ah, the 80s. Back in the day when you were required to be pixel perfect just to land a simple jump and you were punished very severely for making the tiniest of mistakes. One stage even punishes you for picking a path without the required weapon and not being able to progress, forcing you to go all the way back to the other path. And unpausing forces you off the ladder for some reason.
I recognize Mega Man as an icon, but how the fuck to people enjoy the sadism in these early games so much? People complain about some games today being easy, but games back then were way too hard. There needs to be a nice in-between and this isn't it.
Sometimes I agree, but sometimes I look back and think of how they taught me to be very patient and very precise with my gameplay. They made me better.
And that my friend is why the SNES era is so perfect. The developers finally realized how sadistically hard their games were and toned it down a bit, but they didn't make them super wimpy easy like Playstation Xbox and Wii dud.
Hyper600 Simple: Don't use Megaman 1 as an example. Megaman 1 is trash compared to everything else. Not to mention, later games were more forgiving in difficulty. What are you complaining about, seriously..
Samuel Baugh The PS1, N64 era and Xbox, GameCube, PS2 era games were arguably hard as well, but they did have some places toned down from the bull that happened in the NES and SNES era (there are exceptions to this rule, like Abe's Oddysee & Exodus, Twisted Metal 2 & Black, Pac Man World, etc.)

I remember this level hard as hell. The first time i played this game i didn't know you had a new weapon with each victory.
And the saddest part is....IN MEGA MAN POWERED UP HE IS A CHILD! WAAAAAA

The dude is FAR from being skilled or really good... From the very first stages, he gets damaged by just about every single enemy and trap.
No passwords, what the hell were they thinking. I remember keeping my NES on for days until I could finish the game haha
Megaman 1 is pretty easy I can beat it in 30 minutes so I think the passwords aren't soo useful in this game
Same except with the Wii Virtual Console on the same save state without resetting it

The Yellow devil in this version is ridiculously hard, I stucked with him for years trying to find the power to defeat him, and one day I found out his transform pattern, I beat the game 3 hours later.

Well technically Mega Man 2 started the franchise the first Mega Man didn’t do so good but Mega Man 2 was a huge success
Megaman had the crazy select exploit where when you fire your weapon on a boss, As soon as it hits keep hitting select and you get multiple hits on the bosses.

This game has some terrible design choices that kind of ruin it like all NES games but its still iconic
Comes from an era when home console games were in their infancy and developers were still figuring out what kinds of tribulations were and weren't acceptable to put a player through.
A few of these hard as balls NES classics have aged really well like Castlevania, Contra and Ninja Gaiden, but this isn't one

Damn finally I played through this game, was able to beat all the boss's except didnt finish the entire willy level, that was goddamn hard, its probably one of the hardest nes games ive ever played, this one and the real super mario bros. 2 are the hardest

It encourages me to see how often this player gets hit. I'm trying to beat the game for the first time, and I keep asking "How the fuck am I supposed to avoid that??"
The answer is trial, error, and luck, it seems.
God this is pretty much the only classic style megaman game that I never finished.

Mega man, amazing, one day I may be able to play the game on console because I can a a much bigger screen, at the minute, I'm only playing on a phone which is much less comfortable but I don't care much because it makes my day, simple stuff, the game's one of the best, simply for me, cool game
Do you have it now? Nes is hard to come by at the moment but there is the anniversary collection featuring all 8 games including 2 arcade games and extra content as well as navi mode.

At 15:14 Cutman's theme music, especially the opening notes, sounds like Rammstein's Deuchland riff. Of course Megaman preceeded that song by decades.

If you figure out the right weapon to use on each boss in this game, they're really OP compared to later entries in the series.

Goddamn why did they make this so damn hard? I couldnt even get halfway in any of the levels. Forget Battletoads. This is the hardest game i ever plsyed. In Battletoads i actually beat the first stage

Nope its bombman, gutsman, cutman, elecman, iceman, fireman. Bomb destroys rock(quarrying mining), ofcourse rock defeats scissors in paper, rock and scissors game(theres also a rock there u can throw at cutman), scissors cuts wires,.. so on and so forth.

I was the first on my street heck neighborhood (we would pass this game around )to beat the Yellow Devil. Nobody believed me. So I had to do it again with all the homies watching. Nothing like it being consider the gaming OG back then.
I liked Megaman games, but those infuritatingly small platforms and dropping platforms were the worst. Megaman was difficult to master the jumping ability for me in those instances and I used to give up even with a Game Genie with infinite lives.

Jose Plaza Theres a glitch that you can do by pressing select repeatedly and using elecman and you can easily kill him.

There was a hack in this game If you kept pressed the select button on your console the health won't reduce and many more tricks like pausing the boss, underground tunneling when fallen down. Me and friend used to clear all stages easily without any damage.
I always restart the game if my hp is less than half before figting boss.
With this game, you can actually go back to the robot master stage you’ve beaten and fight them again! Why couldn’t you do that in the other mega man games?
