  • This is a How to Backflip Tutorial that will teach you how to Backflip on a Scooter Step by Step.
    I have been working as a scooter instructor at Ollies Skatepark. I have learned that a super important tricks in scootering is learning how to BACKFLIP. A Backflip is so important to learn. Not only do they look cool and they impress anergy skaters at the park but they also open up a hole new category of tricks to learn while upside-down.
    There are 7 main steps to take away from this how to backflip video:
    1.commit
    2. Pre-laod and pump the ramp
    3. Lean back and pop out
    4. Tuck in / curl in
    5. Spot your landing
    6. untuck
    7. adsorb your landing and ride away
    If you have a foam pit or Resi near you, I would recommend learning how to backflip into them first. But a great alternative is getting an old mattress to land on to help protect you if you fall while trying your first couple backflips.
    If you have a trampoline. I would definitely recommend trying to send some flips and get used to being upside-down.
    You can practice all 7 of these motions separately and then bring them together in order to learn Backflips easier and faster!

    I’m going to try to land a backflip at my local this week on a hip that I’m very comfortable with because I don’t prefer quarters since I don’t get much pop off of them, I’m not very good, my best trick is a heelwhip fingerwhip, I don’t have access to a foam pit or matress near me, but I can land a backflip on a trampoline, I’m just afraid I’m going to land on my back or head or overshoot or undershoot the backflip, any tips for me before I send the backflip?

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  4 года назад +7

      Keanen Pham you got this! Just make sure you are very comfortable going upside down on a trampoline first. Sometimes it can even help if you hold your scooter in your hand and do a backflip on your trampoline. If you are going to send the flip on a hip that is totally cool but since you won’t be landing straight like a fly out backy, I’d definitely recommend tilting your head to the side a bit to turn it into a bit of a flair so you can account for the landing on a hip. Another thing you can do is tape pillows to your back and chest to make yourself a moving foam pit. (Sounds funny Ik, but I did it 😂)

    • @Polozhene

      Chase Rost Thanks for the tips, the pillows taped on your back is actually a really smart idea and I think my friend is bringing a mattress to the skatepark so I should be fine

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  4 года назад +1

      you got this man. a couple things you can do to help you get comfy doing it on your scooter are:
      1. if you have a trampoline near you, you cna hold your scooter in your hand and then huck the flip so your body knows what it feels like to have your scoot in your hands while upsidown. i would also recommend hucking your first on onto resi or at least a mat of some kind. it not then you could always tape pillows to yourself and be a moving mat haha. sounds funny but i literally did this since there was no resi near me.

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  3 месяца назад

      Best thing you can do is try to flip out of as many different transitions as you can. The more you do, the less scary they will become.
      Couple tips:
      when flipping out of bigger ramp with steeper transitions, you wanna start the flip a pinch ealier and push through the ramp to get yourself out of the ramp.
      For smaller ramps with mellower transitions, your going to have to generate that pop. So get ready to pop right at the top of the lip. This will help give you enough time to get the flip around.

    I've done backflip a lot of times but after a winter right now my fear came back and im here learning again. My main problem is not backflip but whats after. After landing im little bit shaky and i cant get over this feeling and interesting part is its only in one skatepark. Tips to overcome fear or shakiness if someone knows will be very appreciated!!

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  3 года назад

      I'd recommend trying to send a few flips on some different ramps. When you are able to get flips down on different ramp it'll help you get rid if any shakyness. the more you do the the more the landing will feel smooth. Also make sure you are spotting your landing, the earlier you are able to spot your landing the better the landing will feel since your brain will be able to know whats happening sooner. hope this helps. Definitely let me know if your still struggling at all.

    i can already do backflips out of a 3ft quater but am scared to do it out of a more mellow ramp with no coping any tips ? its almost like a bank

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  2 года назад

      that's sick dude! and i definitely got you. Doing flips out of banks is definitely a different kind of flip that requires a slightly different technique. When you pop out of a bank, you have to generate the "pop" that a quarter normally would. The way to do this is to jump up then focus on rotating. If you've ever seen anyone flair flat. Then you can see that they first jump straight up to generate enough air time, then they tuck in and pull the flip.
      Now let's take the same idea to a bank. Since there is no lip or copping to kick us around, we gotta jump and pop our body up using our legs, then curl up and rotate it around. Hope this helps mate! Definitely let me know if you are able to take your flips to more mellow ramps.

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  4 года назад +2

      You got them man! sounds like you have good arial awareness since you can already dub backie on a trampoline. you just gotta stay committed and hold onto your scooter. since you can already backflip on your trampoline, your body will naturally know when to open up and spot the landing since your already used to flips. when you go for your first one, just make sure to keep your head tilted back and keep looking for the ground. once you spot it your good to go!

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  3 года назад

      Definitely make sure you commit. that is the number one thing. when you go to send your first one, you just have to tell yourself, "i'm going to hold on and fully rotate."
      Heres a couple extra tips to make sure you’ll get close within a couple ties:
      1.Make sure you have enough speed
      2. Flip out of a ramp that is steep enough to flip you but not so steep that it keeps you in the quarter pipe. (preferably a fly out with super little or no copping.)
      3. wear as many pads as you can.
      4. the first one is always the scariest, but just keep in mind as soon as you send the first one, it will be so much easier to get your body and mind to send more.
      Hope this helps mate! Definitely let me know how it goes or if you are stuck on any specific part of the flip.

    Every time i go to do it I bail out do you have any advice its concrete park

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  4 года назад +1

      Miles Kelly definitely try your absolute hardest not to bail. Bailing mid flip will almost always end worse than holding on and over or under rotating. Make sure you are pulling your scooter tight when you take off. When it come to actually sending the flip it’s good to know how to get out of the bail but at the same time try to only focus on fully commit it and sending the full flip around.

    Any tips for flipping out of banks?

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  4 года назад

      Definitely make sure you pop. thats for sure the number one thing. if you don't pop up you will not give yourself enough time to get the flip around. try to picture your doing the biggest bunny hop you can outta the bank and then just as your back wheels is leaving, lean back and tuck in as tight as you can. id definitely recommend trying your first bank flip out of a decently steep bank just so it feels similar to a quarter.

  • @natanbtw4980

    I can do backflips on wood ramps but I'm scared of trying it on something with coping because of falling back in but I still want to try and I'm not really sure how to make sure I don't fall in

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  4 года назад

      natan don’t worry about the coping, it’s almost identical to doing it flyout of a normal quarter without coping. Only thing with coping is you’ll feel a slight bonk right as your take off, but besides that the flip will rotate the exact same. You could also try to start the flip just a pinch earlier so you completely avoid the copping all together. Hope this helps mate

    • @natanbtw4980
      @natanbtw4980 4 года назад +1

      @@ChaseRost thanks dude one more thing does it make it more sketchy if the coping is somewhat thick because that's what it's like at my local and I would ask would having lots of speed pop u out more cause when I do it at the wood flyout it didn't really matter too much

    • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  4 года назад

      natan definitely of the copping sticks out a bit more, that can make it harder since there will be more of a bump on the way out. But overall if you do the same thing that you do on a normal wooden ramp it will be almost identical. Altho I’d definitely try to find a spot on the ramp where the coping doesn’t stick out as much. Going a bit faster can help to as it’ll give you more air time to spot your landing a bit better

      Shawn Shoobridge its exactly the same on concrete as it is on resi. Try to find yourself a quarter that doesn’t have coping or atleat has copping that doesn’t stick out as far so it’s not mentally messing with you. • @ChaseRost
      @ChaseRost  4 года назад

      there are two more things you can try before just having to fully send it. You can get two large dudes on each side of you so if you happen to under flip or over flip they can push or grab you to save you. That route is a bit risky as the two other people on the side of you need to know how to catch u depending on how the flip is going. the other option is to bring the foam pit with you by taping pillows to your chest and back. this option might sounds funny but trust me when i say it works. i used this method myself as i had no foam pit or resi near me
