Thank you so much! An old wrist injury makes using a strap much more comfortable for me, and I needed to put buttons on one of my ukes. I really appreciate your advice.
Woo hoo......Thx Jodi , I was fighting with my Uke tonight , trying to move around my fretboard and Uke was sliding all over the place.....with your help I finally installed a strap button 👍😀
Great job! I'm so glad you showed the option of putting the button on the heel. As a lefty, that option is particularly appealing as I might someday switch to actually playing lefty or could someday sell a uke on to someone else who does. It's an ambidextrous button placement. Just summoning my courage up to do this on my new uke now. XD Edited to add: Success! So happy to have the strap on it now.
Magic fluke (makers of Flea &Fluke) sells a little clip, w\ double side tape. It’s essentially a cable clip like you can buy at hardware store. Put on back of uke w/ the tape. Use guitar strap & put a little bit of string or thin shoelace in your button hole of strap. Then hook strap on clip. The use string on other button hole , tie that under strings at head stock. No holes to drill & works great & have on several ukes.
Very good Jodi. This is the very first thing that I do to my ukuleles. It is easy but your right. The intimidation of putting a hole in your ukulele is overwhelming.
Great tutorial Jodi - I have 3 ukuleles I want to put strap buttons on - at least the bottom ones. I prefer the new All in One HUG straps by putting the end part of strap with the buttons and using the strap on the head stock, it holds it up better and the straps are wider than the standard uke straps
Why didn't you put the last one on the bottom of the heel as well, like you did the 2nd one? That seems like the best option without any twisting & cleanest look.
Nice job! I usually opt for 1 in the body and tie to the headstock. I do wonder if the strap on the side of the heel would get in your way if you play high on the fret board. I like the idea of placing a button on the bottom of the heel.
Good job. Your “mistakes” were minor and you learned from them. Trial and error is how most of us learn anyway. Something I have found useful is to first have the drill in reverse to create a small depression prior to drilling to depth.
You are far braver than me. But hey, good on you! Also, I wanted to tell you my wife got me a new ukulele for my birthday. It’s a bamboo Alvarez concert sized. It’s my first not composite uke and it’s AMAZING! So beautiful looking and sounding. And it plays so smoothly! I wanted to send you a picture but I didn’t know the best way to do that.
GirlMeetsUke I am not on Facebook. I have been Facebook free for almost four years. I have Instagram and Twitter. I may do a little RUclips video and leave a comment with the link for it. When I was picking out the ukulele, I was at first put off by the price, but I remembered what you and others had said about how a good ukulele just feels better. I experienced that with this one and fell in love with it while I was playing it.
Only by facing our greatest fears can we overcome them. Well you have done,my paduan. But seriously, well done. One small tip, shine a pen light through the sound hole and you can usually see the internal block. Had the little uke been wood it wouldn't have worked. Done loads of these but it still gives me concern especially if it's a pricey one. Well put together piece of instruction 👍
Jodi, my ukes are new - will this void my warranty? I think it will if I do it myself, but maybe not if I have an approved local dealer/guitar shop do it. Any thoughts? Great video. Thanks, as always
Where's your tape measure? Tips 1. A centerpunch works better than a tack. 2. A little soap on the threads of the screw helps. 3. Some straps come with buttons. 4. I use a Neotech loop adapter around the headstock instead of the second strap button. I don't like the strap digging into my neck.
This is exactly the video I was looking for. Perfect.
Thanks! This gave me the encouragement I needed to go ahead and get buttons installed on mine.
Perfect example of the blind leading the blind.

I’m so happy to hear this!
Good job, Jodi! A lesson learned for all of us! You are a brave soul. Thanks for sharing!

Nice, I wouldn't have thought to put tape on the drill bit :)
I love the ziricote Kalas!

Nice!! Easy enough. Take your time, measure, be careful and have COURAGE :-) Uke can do it!
You got it!
This was a very encouraging uplifting video. Thank you.
I’m so glad! Thanks so much for telling me that.
Very good Jodi.
This is the very first thing that I do to my ukuleles.

I still haven’t worked up the courage to do it on my Ko’Aloha soprano. Soon...

I actually have a hug strap on the way!
You will love ❤️ it!!!!!
Awesome video! Thanks so much!!! Put my strap button on tonight 👍🌴😎

Such courage!!
I did the same thing as you did with your Makala with the second button, only on my beloved koa baritone. It works...but it sure isn’t pretty😬
The important thing is that it works. 😊 And neither of us will ever make that mistake again.
Thank you 😊

Me too! I don't understand why the bottom of the heel is not the most common place to put the button.

That’s awesome! Congratulations on your new uke! Are you on Facebook?

I have never heard of strap buttons voiding a warranty. Ever. What types of ukuleles do you own?
@@girlmeetsuke2980 Just an Alvarez & Ibanez (not expensive) that don't have strap buttons. I had OU install it on my beer bottle brown soprano.
On the second Ukulele your drill was running backwards!!!!!)))
I switched it to go backwards after drilling the hole to bring it back out.
GirlMeetsUke You did a good job putting them in!!!!))) 😊
Why don't the manufacturers fix a strap button during manufacture
Where's your tape measure? Tips
1. A centerpunch works better than a tack.
2. A little soap on the threads of the screw helps.
3. Some straps come with buttons.
4. I use a Neotech loop adapter around the headstock instead of the second strap button. I don't like the strap digging into my neck.
Thank you very much for all the tips. I had heard that about the soap, but I forgot. What kind of soap? Liquid soap?
@@girlmeetsuke2980 A drop of dish or hand soap. It doesn't take much.
What does the soap do that would have improved what was done in this video? It seemed to work well in this video.
