The last notes he plays during the fade-out are for me the most breathtaking. I wish I could hear what happens after that, if they had the original without the fade out.
I remember the first time I heard this song I was on acid. It was an experience I will never forget. The first solo is very composed, controlled. But then that phased drum roll kicks in and the song just exploded into this blend of colors and Jimi was on top of a cloud rising up to the heavens while shredding, in my opinion, the best guitar solo ever. And the song fades out so it was like Jimi was saying farewell in this alien language. I thought “of course! He’s as alien!”. It made all the sense to me. He came here to inspire others. Godspeed Jimi!
I was On the shrooms listening to along the watch tower I look out my window I see Jimi Hendrix face made by the tree branches very trippy I felt like I was going to heaven
yes I get that, I remember similar impressions, the phased drum roll ushers in that cloud-like, rumbling, windy feeling and it does take off, increases in phasing and altitude up into the skies, and drifts slowly away like Hendrix is in a ship made of guitars and pink/lavender ribbons twirling and whipping in the winds up in the ionosphere. The notes are so tremolo'ed and nailed, so dramatic.
When I heard it, I was looking at a GD tapestry and the mandala pattern rose up and down like a storm cloud into itself in a spiraling blend. For me the phasing gave it all a 3D effect and the pure emotional bending in that last solo pushed the center of that mandala up into infinity... Hendrix is the only artist I ever experienced that could appear as a full apparition without ever being present ✌
I had the same experoence when i first heard this song. Ive loved the album since the first time i heard it, but i had never hear the final masterpiece.
Mitch Mitchell never seems to get mentioned on the same breath as the Ginger Baker's, John Bonham's or Cozy Powell's. He should be because he is definitely one of rock music's greatest drummers.
Rainbow Bridge No question about that and over 50 years ago and nobody even comes close to creating such majestic powerful sound like that ....... ever ☮️
I heard Jimi Hendrix for the first time as a kid. It blew my mind and touched my heart and soul in a way that nothing has since. Where did 50 years go. Jimi we miss you, Rest in Peace!
Blew Jimis mind when he was showed it, blew my mind when I was 11 and heard it for the first time, and it still blows my mind every time I hear it.. That final solo man.. Unbelievable.. Long live Jimi Hendrix. I will be listening to his unmatched talent for the rest of my days🤘🏼❤
the most damned beautiful thing my ears have ever heard, I can not even imagine what it would have been like to have been there while it is being laid down...Eddie is Jimi's spirit animal, I'm convinced.
this guy went to Woodstock w/ no idea what kind of recording equipment he'd find,( and surely was dissapointed )or what kind of a crowd he'd find, and after sorting thru a thousand wires and recorders/whatever under the stage, he goes out and sees the crowd. holy shit .he recorded all of that music for 3,4 days.
You know, there's still something so beautifully unique about Mitchell's drumming, his fills, his feel; people always use the word "jazzy" to describe his playing and I understand why they say that but it seems to sell him short, he's ALL about rock music and rock playing, only with one of the most unusually fantastic sounds ever

My favorite album by Jimi and the Experience of all time. I saw him in concert right around the time Axis was being released. My first concert at 14 years old. Blew me away. Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia, Maryland 1968. He has been my Hero ever since.
Just bought the Jimi Hendrix Experience 4 disc box set because I was jonesin' to hear the epic alternate version of Bold as Love that is no longer available on youtube. Definitely worth it. He was just singing with his guitar on that one.
this gave me all sorts of goosebumps. what a cool behind the scenes. mitch seemed like such a cool cat, man. i gotta see more interviews w him. jimi is my idoo but i have just as much respect for mitchell, honestly contributing just as much of his talent to complement the trio as much as hendrix

Mitchell, according to interviewers and a few musicians (including Redding) was rather stuck up, and snobbish...He would remind Noel that he had been a child star on British TV, and was also from a somewhat higher "class"....but we have to remember, these guys were quite young when they joined up with Jimi...Mitchell was barely 20, and Redding was 21....Jimi had just turned 24, but had had very much experience compared to the other two....in fact, I think the choice of name "The Experience", was just perfect!
God bless them all, jimi Hendrix and crew are among my earliest memories And I am 54 years along now and I wouldn't be the man that I am without their influence. Love, wisdom and understanding, straight ahead, keep on pushing straight on ahead;)
It was like the cosmos revealing a new sphere of sound into the realm of mortals when that solo kicks in at the end, in 1967 that was audio revolution taking place, rock n roll had started in black and white probably moved to technicolor with The Beatles but that sound was the first reception of a full color signal and music would never be the same again.
That guitar solo is like an ascent into and beyond the heavens. The drums kick and you’re awaiting takeoff, the guitar sends you spiraling. An absolute visceral experience.
not only a great lyric but the harmonic structure is just brilliant, and the end solo just goes right with the changes, major minor alternating ,mixolydian. just qawesome. anger... he smiles, who smiles when they are angry? brilliant piece of songwriting there
Enjoyed listening/watching this clip today. Interesting to see how there are so many people working behind the scenes to make great music. Love is as bold as the whole team for sure. Mr Kramer is so gorgeous I think because his enthusiasm and love of the music is so evident. And of course he's a wonderful artist in his own right.
Yah, there was definitely a good vibe in the team. Of course, it's probably hard not to have the best artistic instincts in you pulled out when you're working with a giant like Jimi Hendrix.
That fazing brought that entire album to a close like nothing i have ever experienced. It brought more depth to music I will also never forget the continuous rolling sound jumping between song pattern variations. What a ride. Thank you for the experience.
the first time I ever heard lead guitar playing shooting left to right and stopping in the middle for an instant or two ,was when I listened to 'Bold as Love'.and the sheer audio power of the lead playing fade out is equivalent to seeing the Saturn 5 lift off. 'awesome' was a word not yet overused in the 60's, and that's what this record was!!
+Patrick B The Engineer never gets enough credit. As what George Martin did for the Beatles Kramer did for Hendrix. They made those great bands better! Than you had Brian Wilson who was the Producer,The writer, the engineer The arranger! I had the pleasure of jamming (I played drums) with Buddy Miles(Buddy played his strat with the American flag on it) and we talked about Jimi. Buddy was living in my neck of the woods back in the early 90s. He told me Jimi was tired of the Blues! Jimi was always looking to grow as musician.
***** Oh please.. .Buddy Guy is just jealous of Jimi's iconic status.. Buddy Guy only wishes he could stand anywhere near Jimi's level of talent..Buddy Guy always tries exposing Jimi as just a average Guitar player who stole everybody else's ideas.. That's jealousy and totally egotistical ..Jimi's music is absolutely timeless and Buddy Guy sure cant claim that..
+PRE CBS STRATOCASTER'S I was speaking of Buddy Miles from Band of Gypsies!!!!!! Buddy Miles was a pretty competent guitarist as well which is what he played when we did Them changes, down by the river,Midnight rider etc etc at a jam session back in the early 90s.Hendrix was burned out on the blues and he would still smoke all these so called blues icons. Ill bet he would have went in a jazzier direction had he lived longer! Indeed Hendrix's music will live forever. Buddy Guy on the other hand is all hype. For pure blues give me Freddie King,Roy Buchanan or Albert King along with some local cats in Chicago and Hammond Indiana who happen to be world class blues players. Buddy Guy has a club in Chicago. I have gone there on several occasions. I never said a word to him and vice versa. He sure kisses Clapton's ass that's for sure......
I can remember being in high school and going out at night on my bike, peddling around the neighborhood and listening to this album on my Walkman...feeling the wind rushing over you while that stereo phasing is happening in your ears...all I can say is, "Weellll, I haaaaaave..."
Bless you Eddie Kramer, for surviving the 60's with your memory intact ! These behind the scenes videos of Jimi's sessions are a MUST see for anyone who loves his music. Absolutely fascinating.... I was in high school when these came out. Mom wanted me to be a doctor, but, NOOOOO.... I had to listen to Jimi. So I became a guitarist. I've played over 10,000 gigs in the past 45+ years. Watching these videos makes me cry tears of joy.... Sing on brother... play on drummer....
Kramer gives an interview, wherein he decided early in his career to stay away from the hard drugs, and not be high in the studio...this is why he is still with us, clear-headed and still working!
He wasn't just ahead of his time, man. He was ahead of our time, too. People 100 years from now will still be scratching their heads listening to his music.
He recorded 3 studio albums and one live album which he didn't want to do But he was in debt to a music manager in the states for breach of contract. This live album was called band of gypsys
@profnasty People who knew Jimi mostly say that he would not have wanted all that post-mortem music to be released, as it was nearly all not really completed, or approved by Jimi.
Yet look at us talking about those albums all these years later, maybe thats all our mortal minds deserve from Jimi is 3 records that changed music forever!
3 studio albums and 1 live album, but he recorded constantly. He left enough material behind for 25 more albums. It's not really commercially viable stuff, but it provides a much deeper insight.
All real good songs on that album until Bold as Love and then it is a rock and roll Zen moment. Eddie Kramer's smile is how we all feel when we hear the phasing solo!
Some times i cry hearing and watching these behind the scenes of Hendrix. So sad man, he stood for love wit so much passion and experienced so much pain. Love you hendrix!
Unfortunate, isn't it, by now Jimi would have had a bigger band, and different kinds of sounds to blow PPL'S minds with ....RIP all of you...You are all truly missed...
This has been a continual part of my life since it made it to our local Montgomery Ward department store in1968. It has always blown my mind. After listening to Jimi for more than 50 years it is a kind of 'strange cool' to understand how so many great tunes could not be played live. We still love our 'psychedelic' music with perhaps a bit more understanding for the musicians involved. Peace & Lysergic
Micheal, You *must* watch all of Jimi playing Woodstock live, August 18th, 1969! That was the greatest live rock performance in the history of the world. Pay close attention at his virtuosity when Jimi plays "Purple Haze". It's not of this world. He taps into the mind of God, and demonstrates something that is not humanly possible. He brings a message from the deepest part of the cosmos for those on Earth to understand we are all made from love particles of distant exploding super-novas. 🌌
Phasing has to be one of the best effects ever .l came across it by accident many years ago while trying to add some echo while running a tape recorder and turntable together ......
i was going to say what piece can overcome this? and then yeah Machine Gun is in the same level both compositions of other galaxy! i don´t know i like to imagine that this song sounds like light, and orgasmic, and Machine Gun sounds like the darkest aspects of humanity: war, killing, the abyss of the soul...
The song that got him killed. Machine gun. JFK easy jimi was a doddle. Held on chair bottle wine down his neck till braething it why nloid was only glassfull but bottle amount poured clean from lungs not stomache. Hospital kept ambulance at the royal free. Ironically
Damn, Jimi was a freak! I still love him and I ws introduced to him at 4 (his music, my Uncle actually went to the Miami show, front row). What a monster.
@@acidwizard3106 I did a ton of it for a few years and sort of burned out after long enough, but that was of my own doing. I'm getting along pretty well now because I like to think I kept a few of the life lessons after the hippy dippy daydream wore off
I saw Noel Redding at a small bar in Rhode Island. Last song of the night was Love the one your with. After the song he sat on the edge of the stage and started crying like a baby. I asked a guy what was going on he said Noel's wife had recently died. I saw him at another bar he gave the sit in musicians a piece of his mind I was right there he said "and you guys call yourself musicians". At the bar in Boston he said I'd like to introduce you to a friend of mine In strolled Ginger Baker and they played Sunshine of your Love. I felt like I was in a time machine observing these guys before they became famous. What an honour
Thank you for one of the greatest songs ever recorded and the safe place that lives in my heart for those times you need to bring yourself back to the best and most decent, kind and loving version of yourself. You have helped me, moved me, brought me to tears and left me weeping with joy. There are very, very few artists and their producers that can achieve such profound artistic highs of the like you achieved with Bold as Love. Love and Peace XOX
Not to name drop, but my father in law is Billy Kristian the bassist that toured with alot of the bands that came out for US/Asia Pacific tours during the late 60's and 70's, so I have been blessed with the fun of playing on Bill Wyman's Bass (gifted to him after one of the Stones tours), and was able to fool round in the studio with bands that came for recording gigs in the NZ Studio (i think most recently The Herbs). What you do in the booth is so under estimated in the mainstream understanding of music so thank you for giving this clip. It was awesome.
I was kicked in head at the Isle of Wight 1970. Someone was walking over the sleeping bodies trying to get as near to the stage as we were. I woke up to hear the Jimi Hendrix Experience being announced...That was it. Utterly brilliant performance. Unforgettable. Then, when he died, I thought ‘how can life be so short and all that talent go to waste?’ I started looking into where are the dead and whether resurrection back to earth is true. It is.

such an Experience! the name is deserved. RIP Jimi.

Yes indeed. So do I.
Jimi Hendrix played some of the most beautiful melodies in music period, I mean just beautiful sounding.

For me, Mitch & Ginger are BOTH my all time favourite rock drummers.
Cant stand ginger baker.... his attitude towards every other drummer stinks and im not giving my time up listening to that pricks drummin

He wasn't just ahead of his time, man. He was ahead of our time, too. People 100 years from now will still be scratching their heads listening to his music.
I believe Jimi only recorded three albums before his demise. He died to soon, he had ust begun to tap into his genius.
I read somewhere they recorded this song 27 times n the album version is a mix of the 21st and 27th takes. Such a masterpiece.
HENDRIX FOREVER
Some times i cry hearing and watching these behind the scenes of Hendrix. So sad man, he stood for love wit so much passion and experienced so much pain. Love you hendrix!
The engineer is like some mad scientist, totally excited about what he has found.
Just think though, everybody in this band is no longer here.
That "engineer" is the legendary genius Eddie Kramer who might be the greatest and most well respected sound engineer in the history of rock music.
gdawgs101 right, Eddie Kramer and Geoff Emerick
+Joseph Utsch Tom Dowd Too
John Jansen
Unfortunate, isn't it, by now Jimi would have had a bigger band, and different kinds of sounds to blow PPL'S minds with ....RIP all of you...You are all truly missed...
Greatest Rock guitarist of all time. That song and solo says it all !
Thank you Experience!!!! Best album of all time
Jimi’s riff following the sterophase is Magnificent…and the outro!
Pure Beethoven
* * * A REVELATION * * *
Indeed!!!
Greatest guitar solo! Timeless!!
I was 15 when i first heard the album, still in 2016 it blew my mind, im now 22 its so much fun to listen and play these songs
If there's one thing that can reliably give me goose bumps it's Jimi and the band coming back in after the phasered drum solo...
this made me tear up a bit for what we didn't get out of Jimi had he lived and experimented more in the studio. sigh
Listen to this with a Vacuum tube amp and preamp... preferably on vinyl... Oh My GOD!!!
Jimi’s great guitar riff at the end of this song is like taking a rocket 🚀 ride to heaven. Can’t wait to get there and see Jimi 🎸 ❤️
That was exactly my reaction to the solo !...and this was back during the Space Race, when many rockets were lifting off towards the stars!
The outtro of this song. My goodness🔥🔥🔥

Mitch's face. Priceless. Charisma.
Such a musical and engineering masterpiece and a perfect example of why Hendrix chose not to do certain songs live, this being one of them.
I was born in 1983. I'm so so jealous of all those lucky bastards in the 60s who got to hear this genius in his day
Micheal,
You *must* watch all of Jimi playing Woodstock live, August 18th, 1969!
Sooooo underrated song. The final solo here's just like "God, mamma! The guitar here's screaming -if not crying"
Simply out of this world. My second favorite - Right next to masterpiece Machine Gun.
i was going to say what piece can overcome this? and then yeah Machine Gun is in the same level both compositions of other galaxy! i don´t know i like to imagine that this song sounds like light, and orgasmic, and Machine Gun sounds like the darkest aspects of humanity: war, killing, the abyss of the soul...
The song that got him killed. Machine gun. JFK easy jimi was a doddle. Held on chair bottle wine down his neck till braething it why nloid was only glassfull but bottle amount poured clean from lungs not stomache. Hospital kept ambulance at the royal free. Ironically
Miles Davis felt the same way!
@@mabul513 Pure BS....time for your medication.
Bold As Love is my favorite song by Jimi❤️love it so much
When I was a kid this song blew my mind, whenever someone says Hendrix is overrated I play them take 21 (no singing) and they shut up
I dont understand whats take 21
Yeh what's take 21??
Hey guy what’s take 21?
Take 21 is the 7 minute instrumental version I believe
It's on the purple boxset first released in 2000 and it is absolutely brilliant. Yes it was literally the 21st take of that song.
Jimi was a force of nature, unreal, an allien who was just passing by on this planet.
Damn, Jimi was a freak! I still love him and I ws introduced to him at 4 (his music, my Uncle actually went to the Miami show, front row). What a monster.
Love me some Jimi!
i just dosed my first ever lsd trip last night offa 350 ugs of white on white. the solo at the end .words cannot describe
Haha hows life treating you 3 years later? Just curious I love acid
Super jealous
Wow, drugs. You're just sooo cool.
@@acidwizard3106 I did a ton of it for a few years and sort of burned out after long enough, but that was of my own doing. I'm getting along pretty well now because I like to think I kept a few of the life lessons after the hippy dippy daydream wore off
This song is a MASTERPIECE!
My first and only favorite song.
Thank you. I can live without the original studio recording as long as I have this part !
The pinnacle of the psychedelic music era!
Just a lad of 12 in '69 when i bought this album. One of the greatest.
these records are amazing!!!
What an honour
thanks for the history lesson, very enjoyable
this dude makes me cry.....a cry of love for a man who just can't get enough, just like me and Mr. Uffernt!~E
I heard this the first time in 1980, and I was blown away and wondered why it wasn't played on the radio all the time.
The best Hendrix stuff was not played on radio...it was considered too Heavy/druggie.
Awesome, legend in making!
For the one who plays guitar , this song is a jewel made of light ...So are You ...!!!
That was hot. Hendrix isn't any better than the back end of that song. Have loved it for decades.
the instrumental version, the guitar just shines its just beautiful
Love the music of Jimi Hendrix ♥️🎸♥️🎸♥️🎸♥️🌟♥️🌟♥️🌟♥️🌟♥️🌟♥️🌟♥️
One of rock guitar's great transcendent moments.
The best song from the best album of all time
We had them, and that's what matters! Love you all with every breath!
It is.
My second fav Hendrix song ❤️
Greatest song of all time
Jimi Hendrix is the greatest of all time.
