    In this video I am explaining how Jimi Hendrix and John Mayer play chords on the basis of a song. A beautiful way of making chords sound super awesome, and to 'spice em up a bit!

    the greatest video on youtube. sitting in the sun in the garden with the tele through 60s marshall amp sim on logic and learning this amazing song by the coolest most chilled out guitarist on youtube. feels like heaven.

    I love this tutorial, for good reasons: you don't spend an eternity describing every single detail which would make the video too long, but you explain enough for me, not experienced in guitar, to understand. I've looked for tutorials of this song, but it's always either way too long or too short and rushed. This is just the right amount of explaining. Thank you for this!

  • @DamonNicholls

    Paul This is wonderful. It doesn’t get much cooler than these licks. I’ve been wanting to nail this song ever since I began playing guitar. This is hugely helpful.

    I took Santanas and Morellos Masterclass. This makes more sense how to play the neck then anything they showed in the classes. Awesome stuff.

    Do you think you could do a video describing why the C# and the G fit even when playing in A, and how to incorporate "out of key chords" into songwriting?

      It’s called modal interchange; there are some videos on it out there on RUclips. If you have some prior music theory knowledge I would suggest this video: ruclips.net/video/1dRA28cdt5c/видео.html
      If not, I would suggest the link I’m going to put in the next comment. It would definitely be cool to see him do a video on this though!

    • @iamtheshaker
      @iamtheshaker 6 лет назад +4

      Thanks for the input! I forgot that it was called modal interchange, and I actually had that video already favorited! Interestingly enough, one of the examples is a bVII.
      I definitely would like to hear Paul's thoughts though, because when JM does it (or JH) it doesn't sound jazzy, and the only theoretical examples tend towards jazz

    • @TheSnowysealstudios
      @TheSnowysealstudios 5 лет назад +13

      G is a flat 7 and C# is a major 3rd so it all works in the key of A. tensions are a great way to spice up your playing, like 9, 11’s, and 13’s, if that’s what you mean by “Out of key chords”

  • @Jo3sX
    @Jo3sX 2 года назад +4

    Wow. Learning this was a massive light bulb moment for me. I've always had a decent grasp on chords and basic scales, but this is what linked then together for me.
    I watched this video along with a lot of your other videos but didn't really understand a lot of the concepts, so I ended up after a few recommendations watching Stichmethod's various playlists which are great for understanding how scales link to chords and can be used musically and now I actually understand what's going on in most of your videos. Incredible work Paul.

    Aún recuerdo cuando comencé a aprender los acordes.
    Me guiaba por el sonido y hacía acordes que para mí eran nuevos y sonaban hermosos, incluso les mostraba a mis amigos y como éramos principiantes nos emocionábamos.
    Poco dsps conozco más guitarristas y me doy cuenta que lo que yo creí descubrir YA ESTABA DESCUBIERTO.
