    Great review!
    Helpful and honest Macallan comparison.

      I have given up on Macallan. Used to be my favorite a few years ago. $300 for a chill filtered 44% ABV whisky is way too much.

      DileepB, I understand completely giving up at this point, and I think many, if not most, of us "whisky botherers" are with you. The value proposition is completely out of whack. Cheers 🥃

      They just did another release for 2024 on the 22 year masters series…. My local total wine got one in and I snatched it. It was $430 USD… still
      Pretty high but lower than the previous releases. I couldn’t resist. It was my splurge purchase of the month… or quarter 🤣🤣

    Have u tried the Bowmore Aston Martin 18yo? This used to be a fav distillery way back decades ago but fell off my radar since but available thru Duty Free for about $100USD, which seems so incredibly well-priced given what I’ve heard about this series that I’m very suspicious.

    • @whiskyonthewestcoast
      @whiskyonthewestcoast  Год назад

      Hey Marc, unfortunately I haven't had the Bowmore 18 Aston Martin. From what I've read online I remain deeply suspicious of it. From what I can tell, it is the regular Bowmore 18 Deep and Complex(Oloroso/PX casks, 43%). It's a shame, because it is evident that the distillery is special and capable of greatness.

      @@whiskyonthewestcoast It hasn’t been “great” for decades unfortunately BUT people like Roy Duff spoke so highly of the Vaults #1 that I got that one, tho haven’t opened yet. Then the Aston Martin 21 got such great reviews that I had high hopes for the “Aston Martin” 18yo, but on closer inspection it looks like they are using the same marketing to fake a rebranding for alot of their prior aged stuff now by using both “Vaults Editions” and “Aston Martin” on the travel retail packaging too. All leading me to the cynical conclusion that it’s all intentionally trying to confuse people into thinking there is some connection between the 21 & 22 Aston special editions and the regular stuff. Slimy dishonest marketing that will have me
      never touch another Bowmore until proven otherwise!!!

    • @whiskyonthewestcoast
      @whiskyonthewestcoast  Год назад

      I've been very curious about the Vaults #1 Atlantic Sea Salt that Roy is so high on. I think it is more than double his price where I am though at $200 CAD. That's a better safe than sorry approach. Can't fault it here. A prospect is a suspect until proven otherwise in my books. Hope you do enjoy that Vaults #1 when you get to cracking it. Cheers 🥃

    I would say spin out the CS whisky & enjoy the variety it can impart on the daily dram :) Seriously no regrets from wasting iconic whisky:) Ardmore in the Highlands might rock that boat. But cheaper :) Time will tell & the casks

      I'm currently waist deep in Independent Ardmore and loving it. Not exactly a secret but feels like it deserves more fan fare than it gets. Affordable and consistently enjoyable drop.

    Yeah, no arguments here on these two - the 21 was available up to late fall last year for $475+gst and was worth it at that price.
    Kensington Wine Market had some great tastings this last month with this one, the Campbletown, and the 30 for 30 tastings. But come on, you know what we want to hear - did you snag a lottery bottle? Are you going to be getting something in the mail this month for a future review? =P

    • @whiskyonthewestcoast
      @whiskyonthewestcoast  Год назад +1

      Yeah, I would have pulled the trigger on that at $475 too.
      You're right, KWM has had a great lineup lately. I still have to catch up on the blinded by Campbletown, Bladnoch and some other tastings, stupid career with daily obligations :p Nothing too exciting from ballots. I did get a Kilkerran HP Batch #7 so that was nice, definitely will review in the future. You snag anything? I am starting to think I would need to be beating the pavement and working pretty hard locally in Edmonton and Calgary to get my hands on anything Springbank/rare or allocated.
      As an aside, you kinda inspired me from the reddit posts of your thoughts on SMWS tastings to do these sorts of videos. Yeah I probably shouldn't "review" these but I sure as hell can have opinions based off the tasting. So thanks! Cheers 🥃

    • @Hexagonal_Crank
      @Hexagonal_Crank Год назад +1

      @@whiskyonthewestcoast HAH! You're in pretty much the exact same boat I'm in tastings-wise. I still have the Bladnoch, Japanese, Kinship, and, dang, last year's Glenfarclas Family Casks: the 2000s to do. Plus the fiancee and I are only about halfway through the FOMO tasting. We did the Campbeltown one together as well, but it's hard to get together long enough for a full length tasting XD
      You're going to love that Batch 7 Kilkerran HP. I've got a bottle and both the fiancee and I love it. Best of the HP batches so far.
      Man, this is your show, I know that the algorithm is the boss here, but I when I come across whisky tubers that are starting up and questioning whether to review this bottle or that bottle, man, I tell them in comments you gotta just do your thing. Let your personality drive the channel and you'll do just fine. Look at me on reddit. I post ANYTHING and I'm downvoted to the negatives immediately. But it's not about the numbers. I got to talk about and say what I wanted to about whisky. And if people like you are going to take something positive away from that, that's nice. I love sharing my SMWS(and whisky in general) experiences. A lot of people in this country will never get these experiences you or I are fortunate enough to have. How many people are going to get to try samples of the whiskies above, let alone a bottle? You did good sharing your impressions on them. Talk about samples you like, rare bottles no one else can get, everyday whiskies, whatever. As long as it's what YOU want to talk about, it'll be good. Like these 1997ish Ben Nevis' - I think everyone's right about them and they're amazing. If I tell someone that, well, maybe they won't ever find a 1997 Ben Nevis but it might spur them to try a 15 year old one. As long as you believe in the message, some good will come from it =)
      between you and me and the deep blue sea...the fiancee snagged a Longrow 21 and I snagged a Springbank 21. The whisky budget is GONE for a month or two XD but you just do not get opportunities like that...ever.

    • @whiskyonthewestcoast
      @whiskyonthewestcoast  Год назад +1

      That's so awesome that you both do the tastings together! Sorry to hear that the schedules aren't overlapping as best as they could. Hope that's temporary. That tasting backlog is very, very familiar. I already did my 2000's Glenfarclas but still have the 90's to catch up on. Really exciting to hear that the KKHP Batch #7 is the best so far, as Batch #4 was killer once open for a bit.
      I genuinely appreciate the big vote of confidence and the advice. It's tempting sometimes to tone down elements that are for me, but you're on point with mentioning that if I go with my intuition on these things, and talk about what I want to, it'll be good content. Genuine takes and passion for the content is key. I think I'll be doing this channel as long as it remains fun, which hopefully is a long time :)
      I've heard so much about 1997 Ben Nevis. I've had a great SMOS Ben Nevis last year which keeps e intrigued. I have a bottle of the Sierra Springs 1997 Single Cask I haven't cracked yet. Before that, I think I have a '97 Ben Nevis from an Old Malt Cask KWM tasting from last year lol. I am certain this OMC sample will be excellent.
      Congrats on the Campbeltown hunting trip! Those are big bottles that are worth burning whisky budgets for. I loved the SB 21 I got to try, thing of beauty, just like a couple who drams together. :) Cheers 🥃

    Both brands' standard releases deteriorate since 1993 (30y ago) when I started to dram Scotch . . . I will not buy new ones, but end my days with my old stocks from the 1998-2004 era ... These vids are always interesting, they offer new makes of both brands , and help me filter out which Tuber offer similar tasting notes I get from the Brands. --------- at 600-900 $, hard pass for me, i only have 1 kidney left to sell (kidd' LOL )

    • @whiskyonthewestcoast

      Those old stocks are precious liquid at this point. Hope you get to enjoy them with good friends and family.
      Why limit fundraising efforts to just your kidneys? That way you could afford the Bowmore Arc 52 at $110,000 CAD! A price only matched by its lunacy lol. Cheers 🥃
