    Great review Matt. I can't get anything SB and managed to get one bottle of regular Longrow Peated over the last 2+ years. I did manage to get Hazelburn 10 and KK 12 but that's about all the Campbeltown I have.

    Got a bottle of the Springbank 10 and 15. For me I prefer the 15. Springbank does the peat level perfectly. A nice subtle taste in the background. I found a bottle in a small shop at Oban Scotland. They had two and I always regretted not buying both. Never had the Longrow but a shop local to me has the fella in so might get it.

    I've at numerous time called this 2022 Springbank 15 "generational". It's such a step up for me from previous releaseas and I cannot see how they're going to improve on it - it might be one of the best put together core range whiskies I've ever experienced. I was lucky enough to get two bottles over the past year and even picked up a third - and that is NOT something I usually do. It's phenomenal.
    Man, you gotta stop putting these out in the morning. I'm all ready to pour a dram of that 15 and it's still 10 in the morning XD

    Good luck finding any springbank 15 for the price you quoted. I have been trying to get a bottle for the past few years in Ontario without getting any... I agree both great products.. Never seeen the 21 year old here at all

    • @whiskyonthewestcoast
      @whiskyonthewestcoast  Год назад

      Yeah, it's tough out there. That was the price from the ballot for that tasting so it was current to that time, but it has gone up and obviously you're competing with everyone else in the ballot for 6 bottles. Not great odds. Especially with both of us not living in the Springbank provinces of Alberta and Quebec we will struggle. Secondary prices on the 15 have been much higher. I hope Springbank comes back to both Ontario and B.C. someday soon. Cheers 🥃

    are you certain your old 2020 SP15 bottling had any bourbon cask maturation. Weird, I've always thought this was only sherry cask matured. Do you have a link to share maybe.
    Great review, thanks

    • @whiskyonthewestcoast
      @whiskyonthewestcoast  Год назад +2

      Hi Teddy! You definitely had me doubting myself. But I checked into it and found some info. Traditionally I think the 15's were 100% Sherry Cask. However I looked into some of the bottlings from 2019-2020. KWM(Local store) listed a 2019 batch as "matured in a mix of Sherry & Bourbon casks." Further more the Whiskybase entry for bottlings like the SB 15 from 21.10.2020 has a Casktype of 40% Sherry and 60% Bourbon casks. My bottling was a SB 15 from 1.9.20. It seems to be a Canadian market release and no cask information is available on Whiskybase. I do have notes from that time that indicate a mixture of Sherry and Bourbon cask, which checks out with the colour too(though refill would do that as well). So nothing conclusive on my bottle but it does seem, while infrequent, that there are some Springbank 15's that have Bourbon casks in the cask makeup. Thanks for checking me on this, iron sharpens iron and this is a great way to learn. Cheers 🥃

      Tough choice! I grabbed a LR Red and a KK Peated and left the 15 and the 10 for someone else.
      The shop got four bottles, they lasted less than 24 hours. My LR didn't even make it to the shelf and I went back the next morning for the KK batch 7. I don't buy much online but I was looking for that LR and the scotch gods were kind to me last week.
      Not sure if I'd have done the 10yr PX either. The 15 was priced at $225 USD which was less than half of the other retailer I saw .

    • @jackthepickledhound
      @jackthepickledhound Год назад +1

      @@trubaka KK HP #7 was $104 and not worth it, even though I bought batch 6 the week before for $110. Great whisky but young and maybe worth $85. Comparable to a James Edie Ardmore10 that cost me $75. Perhaps a tad more complex.
      Glad to have them in my collection but I'd like to see an age statement on my next one.
      Just to keep the perspective totally insane, I'm looking at a 6 year Ardnamurchin for $115.

    • @whiskyonthewestcoast
      @whiskyonthewestcoast  Год назад +2

      I think you made the right choice. The 15 year is dynamite. The 10PX has a lot of value on secondary, not necessarily because of it's taste, but because it's the first of 5 in a series. I have a sample coming up in a blind tasting, will be interesting to dive into. Cheers 🥃

    • @whiskyonthewestcoast
      @whiskyonthewestcoast  Год назад +2

      Prices be crazy. I feel like $225USD for the SB 15 is really freaking high. $140CAD was fairly average in my area, though at that price it's ballot only and I got blanked. $85CAD for the KKHP #7. In the western U.S. it seems the importer or wholesaler for Springbank has a fairly high markup. Either that or the stores are marking up by a lot because has some of the highest liquor taxes in the world. You shouldn't be that much higher, someone is being unfair. And the traiff's are over so it's a confusing state of affairs. Glad you got some bottles nonetheless. Cheers 🥃

    First off, great review as always! I’ve got to say that I’m not much of a fan of Springbank 10. I’d take the Craigallachie 13 over it every time. That being said, I’m on my second bottle of the 2022 Springbank 15 and it is just about the perfect combination of sherry and peat. I wish it was a touch less sweet but that’s not much of a complaint.

    • @Watchman999
      @Watchman999 Год назад +1

      Hey Kevin. I decided that instead of picking between SB10 and Craigellachie 13 I would make them tied for favorite. Which kind of makes the go forward option pretty easy considering that Craigellachie 13 goes on sale in my area at least 3 or 4 times a year. I am seeing price escalation on SB10 every time it comes out so I will have to give up on it here soon.

    • @whiskyonthewestcoast
      @whiskyonthewestcoast  Год назад +1

      That is a great mentality, Watchman. Every now and then 2 bottles of Craigellachie 13 can be had in your province under the price of SB 10. I'm sure this isn't news to you, but just hammers home your point. Understandable tact to take. Cheers 🥃
