I feel this. Dated a girl in college back in 2004. Come to find out later in 2007 that she is a lesbian. I always wondered why we never made it past 2nd base.
No idea how anybody badly reviewed Pinkerton in the day. I put off listening for years and was blown away when I did listen to it. The pure melodies, dual guitars, harmonies are just perfect.
Weezer has put out so many songs that get helplessly stuck in your head for days at a time, and this just may be the most melodic and addicting of them all. Masterpiece.

Pinkerton is Weezer's best work. Rolling Stones gave it bad reviews, but they changed it recently, it was an album that not many people liked because it just wasn't popular and didn't have any big videos. Its got a following now because people found out it was pro. Pinkerton is truly their greatest album.
Never understood that label that stuck by RS. Thought that album was killer from release day. Still do. Glad they finally got the recognition even if a day late and a dollar short.
Why I love Pinkerton is that unlike the Blue Album, which sounded more like a compilation of tracks made over a couple of years, Pinkerton sounds like it was all composed in one crazy fever dream that Rivers had in a short period of time. The album is so cohesive and consistently weird and wonderful. It could have only been crafted in some crazy inspired burst of magical creative energy. Ideas taken from another dimension. We probably won't ever get an album like Pinkerton again.
Nope, because any time Weezer has tried to deviate from the Blue Album sound, they catch a bunch of shit. They're kinda like AC/DC in that respect. That's not to say Weezer hasn't put out some real misses in trying to do something different... I think they have... but maybe if Pinkerton had gotten the promotion and love it deserved when it came out, the band could have evolved organically as opposed to constantly having to step back and make the Blue Album again to appease people.

I can definitely see how critics hated this album, but at the same time I can not grasp the idea that this was one of the most hated albums of the year. I've always loved this album, but I can kind of get the "River's cries like a teenager about his problems and it ends up coming off as creepy" thing even though I don't agree.
Everything is creepy to people. People just don’t like other people sharing their feelings in their own way. It’s only creepy because it’s a man and not a woman.

The song describes a man who falls in love with a woman with whom he imagines he could settle down and be married. However, he soon discovers that the object of his affection is a lesbian who possibly thinks that the man himself is gay.[3] The song is based on a real person that Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo encountered while a student at Harvard, whom he fantasized a life with until he saw a pink triangle-a gay pride symbol-on her backpack. According to Cuomo, a year and a half after the album was released he discovered that the woman was actually not a lesbian and had just been showing support for the gay community. Source : Wiki

i wish we had other rerecordings to pinkerton, as much as i hate this one. I think I've figured out the reason for me, and it's the fact that the lead guitars are all panned super hard to the left or right and maybe even amplified, where in the original all the guitars are more blended together.

weezer was/is awesome.i used to be crazy about them.
i watch the video capture device dvd all the time still. hahh. so good.
Literally happened to me last week. I went up to a girl and had a nice conversation and was pretty happy about it but learned soon later that she was gay, so that sucked. Still, I didn’t know her for long so it wasn’t that big of a deal, but it was pretty funny.
I would kill to get a karaoke version of this.
Such an amazing piece of music.
18 years ago is crazy
Such a great tune.
Everything Sucks! Brought me here :D
AYYY SAME :)
Pinkerton is their best album, also the most underrated album ever. This song is also the most underrated song of the album... .
Hey ıf you are just here for you like this song: you have a good taste in music
But...
If you are here because ıt happened to you and you are just here to feel better: Let me give you a hug man. Everythings gonna be alright.
Never heard this version before somehow, made me fall in love with this song again. And that solo, fucking biblical. 3:13 makes me feel like space is being torn apart. =w=
married in my minds no good.
Weezer's first album and 'Pinkerton' are the only Weezer albums that I like. I love this song alot!!
@idontagree6
I'm guessing you don't agree?
I’m surprised to see you here haha
their best album. hands down
The radio remix ruins the rawness of the production.
Seriously, that snare drum is so distracting.
Thaaat's what the difference is. I couldn't figure it out.
You're welcome. :]
It's a complete re-record actually. I like it a lot tbh
Bleh, the snare drum sticks out like a sore thumb to be honest.
i wish we had other rerecordings to pinkerton, as much as i hate this one.
I think I've figured out the reason for me, and it's the fact that the lead guitars are all panned super hard to the left or right and maybe even amplified, where in the original all the guitars are more blended together.
Why did everyone give this a thumbs down?
It's asking about the lyrics. It's not calling Weezer gay....
Man these radio remixes of Pinkerton singles really blow don't they?
+James McGill yup
I think most agree that the Blue Album was simply a masterpiece, but there other albums are damn good and they have one of the best all around collections to date. 5 and soon to probably be 6 solid albums. Fantastic Band, they have never dissapointed me.
I just realized that in this video, the song has a slightly different mix
Took you a while
yeah, this was the radio mix
I love this song, it reminds me to my firts and unique love (this was his favorite song)
Where's our deluxe edition of Pinkerton at? Such an amazing record.
I have some wonderful news for you
Whoa, cool!! This is definitely a different mix of this song. I just noticed how it sounded fresh to me compared it with the version on Pinkerton, so I compared them and it's definitely got it's subtle differences. Neat
This hits me hard after remembering last year I asked out a girl I thought really liked me but she turned out to be lesbian. Then the girl I got with after that tried to break up with me by saying she’s a lesbian.
At the concert they played in St. Paul Minnesota the crowd went nuts to this song! the mosh got fun!
God this song is sooo good!
Shit what’s up past me

I agree! Although I love all their albums, the first blue album and pinkerton are my favorites.
I want to see a show with Weezer, 311 and Gorillaz
