An IMPROMPTU Interaction With ‘ MITCH’ ---CEO and Founder of SQCDP, a tech startup

CREATIVE TENSION’ , is a concept Peter M. Senge introduced in his book “ THE FIFTH DISCIPLINE “ , in chapter covering ‘ Personal Mastery’.
“ People often have great difficulty talking about their vision , even when the visions are clear. Why ? Because we are acutely aware of the gap between our vision and reality. “ I would like to start my own company “ but “ I don’t have the capital.” Or “ I would like to pursue the profession that I really love .” but
“ I’ve got to make a living .” These gaps can make a vision seem unrealistic or fanciful. They can discourage us or make us feel hopeless. But the gap between vision and current reality is a source of energy. If there was no gap , there would be no need for any action to move towards the vision . Indeed, the gap is the source of creative energy. We call this gap creative tension.” ( Peter Senge ) .
Peter, goes on to say that this gap can ( the creative tension) between the vision and current reality can be resolved in two ways . Taking actions to bring reality into line with vision. He calls it ‘ fundamental solution’. The other being lowering the vision to bring it into line with current reality. He calls this ‘ symptomatic solution’.
He advocates that when we understand ‘ creative tension’ and allow it operate by NOT lowering our vision, vision becomes an active force.
I started to look at some “ start ups” in India ( #INDIA75 ) , 3 years ago ( 2022 ), to understand how they dealt with ‘ creative tension’. The 2 years that followed, my focus did drift away due to personal reasons .
Early this month @Lonnie Wilson invited us for a group interaction on Peter Senge’s concepts of ‘ creative tension’ & ‘ emotional tension’ . We had great learning from this interaction and that reignited my curiosity to continue my journey to under ‘ start ups’ & how they dealt with the ‘ creative gap’.
This “ Impromptu Interaction” with @Stephen (Mitch) Mitchell , is all about how ‘ Mitch’ used this ‘ creative tension’ to generate energy for change to move closure to his VISION , to set up his “ tech start up” .
