      Larry and Zen are talking about spending money... you're talking about burning it. Consider for a second... What after the 10 yachts? 10 more? How many homes can you own? How many homes can you sleep in? At some point material possessions aren't the answer, and what an excellent point that is.

    Larry is the GOAT, so inspirational!! I share a passion for the outdoors, adventure and also despite my relative success relate to having people in your life like a spouse who doesn't share the vision and mocks the journey. Some people are in our lives for a reason or just a season but whether the experience is positive or negative they still provide value even if it's in the form of spiteful motivation or just to teach you who you should and shouldn't open you life up to.

      i did not want to comment on that speech. i am not sure what to do ...it was ugly but i did not want to add to the ugliness of the speech with an ugly aggressive counter-position. it really feels like society is going off the rails that such speech is accepted. and more, the speech just sounded infantile and not intelligent and not capable. what a mess! embarrassing, actually.

    • @aashimabeaulieu5350
      @aashimabeaulieu5350 8 лет назад

      +Marcus Aurelius To paraphrase you, "Marcus Aurelius", waste no more time arguing about what a good speech should be.
      At least appreciate the fact that the speech sparked discussion. Recognize that she is fresh out of college and was looking for a way to connect with the audience on a variety of levels. She should be lauded for her efforts to shed light on relevant issues of our time. Granted, it seems like you and Steven Urke were offended by some of the things she said (why?), but rather than simply criticizing her speech, why don't you describe what you found to be so offensive? Also, how can a speech be ugly? Please make your namesake proud and present a sound, logical argument that backs up your claims. I was honestly quite proud to see a young woman of color show such confidence and finesse in her speaking. Rather than finding everything to be wrong, try to recognize both sides of the coin and admit that there were at least some merits to her speech.

    • @aashimabeaulieu5350
      @aashimabeaulieu5350 8 лет назад

      +Steven Urke I realized that I replied only to Marcus Aurelius and not to you, so I would like you to read my comment above. You seem to be quite bigoted, yourself, seeing as you took the time to comment not only on the Valedictorian's speech, but also on Larry Ellison's speech. This a classic example of a pot calling the kettle black. Mr. Urke, I urge you to reconsider your thoughts, because, after all, your logic clearly fails.

  • @corm1000
    @corm1000 8 лет назад +32

    Explain to me why universities, bring in people who dropped out of College to give these speeches. "You just got a degree so now here Is a man who did not get one, who made billions". Why not have a liberal arts major, who became successful, come in and share his or her story. More of these grads could relate to that kind of thing. Do not get me wrong, I liked Ellison's speech, but one does not need college to be an entrepreneur. Do you see how this is kind of counter intuitive? This speech, should be given to kids who do not want to go to college, so they can learn they can have a chance through entrepreneurship. These kids just got degrees so why do they need to hear about the success of a man who did not get a degree.
