Wouldn't take him as too much of a role model since he's a Billionaire but still not happy because he isn't THE Billionaire. He doesn't know how to be proud of himself and that's very sad
"After a certain point it can't be about the money... you can't spend it, no matter how hard you try. I know, I've tried hard, but it's impossible." - Very true, Larry, same here.
Larry and Zen are talking about spending money... you're talking about burning it. Consider for a second... What after the 10 yachts? 10 more? How many homes can you own? How many homes can you sleep in? At some point material possessions aren't the answer, and what an excellent point that is.
No one ever calls a college graduate crazy. Only college dropouts are called crazy, and some of those dropouts happen to be some of the most successful people in the world.
Larry is the GOAT, so inspirational!! I share a passion for the outdoors, adventure and also despite my relative success relate to having people in your life like a spouse who doesn't share the vision and mocks the journey. Some people are in our lives for a reason or just a season but whether the experience is positive or negative they still provide value even if it's in the form of spiteful motivation or just to teach you who you should and shouldn't open you life up to.
excellent, excellent, excellent speech! what a great speaker! he truly knows how to speak in an engaging way that has you listening intently for each and every second!
"When people start telling you that you're crazy, you just might be on to the most important innovation in your life....of course the other possibility is you are crazy"
I am always inspired by the mission of the oracle of oracle’s! I love my job thanks to you starting me in 1997! The difference between god and Larry Ellison is god does not believe he is Larry ellison. I just want to help build this world and more!
Hi Larry😙🤗😇💖💓💗💞. Thank you for the love care and encouragment you have shown me throughout the years and especially over the last 10 to speak of. I love you for that and I am so grateful and privileged because that is the case. Be happy positive and successful always.😇🤗 Warmest of wishes Grace
I USC is different from UC Berkeley, so based on the podium's seal it is most likely USC. USC is in Los Angeles and Berkeley is in Berkeley. Hope this helps.
I wouldn't call Larry an internet entrepreneur though. Most of his tech resides as the back-end of applications, where some of those apps. do face the internet, but again not Oracle's tech directly..
These guys do what makes them happy not what makes others happy it's tough because people in this world are fucken assholes don't listen to them. do what you love and don't listen to others opinions only listen to yourself only you your self knows what makes you happy and do it regardless what others say, people will always try to bring you down don't let them the choice is yours.... do what you love period if its out of the norm who cares you only live once go for it.
+Steven Urke i did not want to comment on that speech. i am not sure what to do ...it was ugly but i did not want to add to the ugliness of the speech with an ugly aggressive counter-position. it really feels like society is going off the rails that such speech is accepted. and more, the speech just sounded infantile and not intelligent and not capable. what a mess! embarrassing, actually.
+Marcus Aurelius To paraphrase you, "Marcus Aurelius", waste no more time arguing about what a good speech should be. At least appreciate the fact that the speech sparked discussion. Recognize that she is fresh out of college and was looking for a way to connect with the audience on a variety of levels. She should be lauded for her efforts to shed light on relevant issues of our time. Granted, it seems like you and Steven Urke were offended by some of the things she said (why?), but rather than simply criticizing her speech, why don't you describe what you found to be so offensive? Also, how can a speech be ugly? Please make your namesake proud and present a sound, logical argument that backs up your claims. I was honestly quite proud to see a young woman of color show such confidence and finesse in her speaking. Rather than finding everything to be wrong, try to recognize both sides of the coin and admit that there were at least some merits to her speech.
+Steven Urke I realized that I replied only to Marcus Aurelius and not to you, so I would like you to read my comment above. You seem to be quite bigoted, yourself, seeing as you took the time to comment not only on the Valedictorian's speech, but also on Larry Ellison's speech. This a classic example of a pot calling the kettle black. Mr. Urke, I urge you to reconsider your thoughts, because, after all, your logic clearly fails.
Explain to me why universities, bring in people who dropped out of College to give these speeches. "You just got a degree so now here Is a man who did not get one, who made billions". Why not have a liberal arts major, who became successful, come in and share his or her story. More of these grads could relate to that kind of thing. Do not get me wrong, I liked Ellison's speech, but one does not need college to be an entrepreneur. Do you see how this is kind of counter intuitive? This speech, should be given to kids who do not want to go to college, so they can learn they can have a chance through entrepreneurship. These kids just got degrees so why do they need to hear about the success of a man who did not get a degree.
"deep inside of all of us there's a primal desire to do something important with our lives"
yep, absolutely!
One small lesson that can be taken from this is that he didn't start Oracle until he was almost 33, patience at its finest!!
Patience my ass
This is 2019

Yes how they struck to their vision in face or naysayers and doubters
Wouldn't take him as too much of a role model since he's a Billionaire but still not happy because he isn't THE Billionaire. He doesn't know how to be proud of himself and that's very sad
Common Theme with Steve Job's Graduation Speech at Stanford 'Keep looking and don't settle'. Thanks Larry for the reminder.
MrSuyashJoshi Stay hungry Stay foolish!
Hard to believe that hes 72 years old
He looks like 50 years, and voice is more like 20-30
He must be sucking the juices out of human embryos.
his forehead doesn't even move lol plastic surgery yet great CEO
That is okay, build your self a good health routine like he did
And a very sharp mind too. Was watching his interview in 1998. He was a visionary to see the coming of cloud computing.

One of the best commencement speeches of all time
someone said to larry Ellison that he lacked ambition ...can't stop laughing
"After a certain point it can't be about the money... you can't spend it, no matter how hard you try. I know, I've tried hard, but it's impossible." - Very true, Larry, same here.
+Zen Chang stupid quote. u can buy 10 yachts for 3 billion easy.
Larry and Zen are talking about spending money... you're talking about burning it. Consider for a second... What after the 10 yachts? 10 more? How many homes can you own? How many homes can you sleep in? At some point material possessions aren't the answer, and what an excellent point that is.
***** yes. cocaine is the answer
it's not about the job, it is about the adventure!
One of the most honest speeches I have heard. Revealed a side of Larry that one does not know about
12:16 “When you start telling people that all the experts are wrong - at first they call you arrogant, and then they say you’re crazy.”
"What's an expert any way? Just some guy from out of town!"
❤️❤️❤️❤️
June, '23 still here enjoying.😍😍😍
Somebody calls me crazy. Now I feel good after watching this speech.
By far my favorite commencement speech.
Check out Steve Jobs' at Stanford

But why he is reading all things it his own life right? So he could without seeing that 🤔what do you think
Larry Ellison is worth $118 billion now, that makes him the 4th richest man on the planet.
"When people start telling you that you're crazy, you just might be on to the most important innovation in your life....of course the other possibility is you are crazy"
I guess all those crazy homeless around California are geniuses
everything he says, and the way he tells the story is just like Steve Jobs. lol
Hmm...familiar attitude, but different delivery
Of course because super successful ppl have the same mentality
Steve jobs definitely had an influence on this guy
+Real Drake
yeah, especially when they were living next door to each other...
And vice versa the samurai of silicon valley had an influence on him too.
ich. like him
das the best way for me. the ? I think the best way for alle whant. to get. yes. or good
He is older than Steve Jobs
muzikology 101 his age is why you could learn from him. A 23 year old with a company like that
“And nobody ever said I lacked ambition again … “
Makes me proud to be an alum of SC. What a great speaker for commencement!
Respect to Sir Larry Ellison for his motivational speech from Pakistan
People say chase your dream but in fact, is the other way around; the dream IS the JOURNEY.
What a great and inspiring speech !
@17:27 Larry: This is why it's so important that I'm your friend. You don't need any more money.

Great speech by American internet entrepreneur
I wouldn't call Larry an internet entrepreneur though. Most of his tech resides as the back-end of applications, where some of those apps. do face the internet, but again not Oracle's tech directly..
It was his work on relational databases that really revolutionized things.
ສຸດຍອດສຸດ👍👍👍👍Larry Ellisonຂັວນໃຈແລະເປັນແຮງບັຮດານໃຈໃຫ້ຂ້ອຍສຸດໆ🙏🙏🙏

Excellent point
He eventually got a PhD. Note the regalia he is wearing.
Speech is to/for the contribution to the endowment 😉
Yes you are accomplished and inspirational. I agree. But one gotcha! Even being so close to Steve, did you ever learn anything about Spirituality?
