  • The light cycle in the new TRON movie is one of the coolest movie motorcycles ever seen. But it's creators never intended the computer animated cycle to work in the real world. Enter Mark and Shanon Parker, who decided to try and build a real life working light cycle with nothing more than a picture from the movie to guide them.

    I learned to fly 20 years ago. I still remember my instructor telling me after a lesson, "Be careful driving home. It's the most dangerous part of the lesson." Hope your ankle is better.

    Is it just me or they made it too big? Just compare the actual bike at 0:35 with the movie scene at 0:37: in the first sequence, the guy has to spread his legs way wider and you can barely see him because the bike is so big!

    Perhaps the batpod was designed behind the Tron 1980's bike. This thing is awesome, but, after a motorcycle accident where I fractured my ankle, I WILL NEVER RIDE A MOTORCYCLE AGAIN.
    I'm taking pilot lessons instead.

    _____Nope, uh-uh, rimless wheels HAVE been done before. A half a second on Google, and you can see 'em all over the place. Now to tell the truth, if these dudes would've had a cool half million or so, they could've had the vehicle's power plant (in this case, a gasoline engine) power a generator. And once you've got a good genny, you can stick high-torque electric motors or whatever on the wheels, inside the wheels, wherever. But the whole killer laser-plasma trail thing is gonna hafta wait.

    I just can't understand why they'd put a Harley sounding motor in it. If anything, put a sport-bike motor in it for that higher pitched sound to make it sound as much like the movie light cycles as possible. If it's a matter of weight, they could use one of those 1.3L Hayabusa motors. Still cool though.

    @FLIPminoman
    _____It might not look as cool, but it'd probably be no problem if they redid the frontal chassis to increase the turn radius. They could then slot the handlebars to give 'em more leeway. Hey, if they got the thing going forward, they oughtta have no trouble making the thing go sideways some more.
