40:05 I think this moment convinced me that a hardcore run isn't the way to go, because if it stifles exploration for the sake of safety, I don't think the trade-off is worth it. edit: lol that ending is troll
Yeah I'm not sure why you would do your first playthrough of a game on a hardcore run. Don't you want to enjoy the game as it is and understand what this game has to offer?
also, the final-final level is actually pretty challenging, even by non mario level standard. lol, 100% hardcore for the first run doesn't seems like it would be much fun.
@@jeanguylouisbourg I agree wholeheartedly. This game ramps up in difficulty pretty hard once you get halfway through, as is tradition for mainline Nintendo titles. Getting all the collectibles on one of the castles took me like 30 minutes of attempts, and the Jr fights are much more difficult than in New Supe
8:40 I'm gonna be honest, I wasn't playing with headphones, but when I saw the "are they singing?" line, I immediately paused the game to grab some, then replayed the level just to hear it from the beginning fun fact: each individual piranha plays its own separate "voice", so killing a piranha plant will remove that voice from the song. In certain sections, this just leads to really awkward silence for a moment before more of them pop out
"I wouldnt want to bother a sleeping goomba thats just mean" Hard cut to literally 30 seconds later Massacres all 4 of them with newfound elephant 'powers'
Blind hardcore is not the way to go on this lol. At the end of the video not trying something because you're afraid of dying is going to keep you from exploring. It will happen again. Plus by the time you reach the last few worlds it's inevitable you will die in pits or lava. Restarting multiple times when you reach the final world does not seem like a good choice lol.
I can't believe that he would just throw away his chance of having a fun and casual time with the first 2D Mario in a decade. (More towards the 2nd half of the game)
Restarting after dying isn’t a good choice if you find joy of beating the game quickly, but for the mind of a Larl he enjoys dying and can laugh when doing so even if it means restarting.
@@zukor2063We have to remember that many of the troll levels he plays, singular levels, can take over an hour to complete. My absolute favorite part of this game is how beautiful it is. Every single level has its own unique feel and design, that all fit well into actual unique world themes rather than desert world, grass world, snow world, etc. It's layers on layers of clever and fun artstyle in each level. The creative direction for this game is incredible
What I love about this game, and I can say with confidence after finishing it is that it feels like a Mario Maker level, instead of other Mario games where the courses feel so rigid.
I noticed this detail too. I think adding in more secrets and fun stuff in normal levels, as well as shorter bonus-style levels EVERYWHERE, really help give it that "alive" feel that Mario Maker has. They've embraced the fun and the silly
it literally felt like they programmed in bespoke functions that acted like certain mario maker contraptions. that piranha plant segment in the 2nd level felt very much like an autoscroller music level
I can't tell you how many times I was cruising through a level the first time, and the flowers hinting at the end of the level coming preventing me from missing the top of the flagpole. The use of the talking flowers for quick bits of relevant information is incredible design.
@@Endir.Lmao, it's been so long, they forgot how to have lives go above 99 even if you bought more than that. Crown Crown Crown in that one 2d game was great.

I really like how they adopted the same philosophy as the recent Donkey Kong Country games, where every single level is unique and its own experience. I also like the challenge idea to spice things up, since this game is very easy (though I wouldn't try that on the 100% for now lol).
You have the same New Soup habit that I do of spinning with every jump! My biggest gripe with this game is that spin jumps are useless - they don't let you bounce off piranhas or thwomps. They also have a fixed height.
I'm loving this game, and I'm looking forward to the ROM hacks that I'm sure are imminent. I'm hopeful that troll makers decide to use Nabbit as the troll Kaizo block standard. Imagine having Nabbit locked away from the player, but any time they need to put an invisible block in the way of the player, it's specifically a Nabbit block. Nabbit just feels like the kind of character that would be trolling players, so I'm hopeful we can establish that in the community cannon early.
Feels like as if all good Mario Maker levels were pushed together and skinned with fresh painting. Love it! Now, the functions to creative MM-creator techniques have been added.
Would love a full playthrough but am also voting for no hardcore because Carl isn't observant enough to get everything the game is throwing at him and it is inevitably going to result in haphazard deaths that destroy all progress. Like the only reason the video ended on that pipe is Carl never noticed the game explicitly had the pipe glowing and sending light down past the bottom of the screen because it only did it for a second because it assumes you're actually paying attention.
44:00 I completely agree. They decided to use X for social features, but when you're trying to go full speed and use powerups to their fullest, having to let go of run kinds makes things awkward.
